BluSmart is implicated because it was a related-party electric ride-hailing company associated with Gensol promoters Anmol Singh Jaggi and Puneet Singh Jaggi. Gensol told the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) that it used loans from public lenders to buy electric vehicles and lease them to BluSmart.
SEBI’s interim findings allege that part of the borrowing was not used for the approved vehicle purchases. The record currently contains regulatory findings, a corporate-law investigation and a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) criminal FIR—not a final court judgment or conviction.

Why BluSmart appears in the Gensol case
BluSmart was not an unrelated customer. It was a related-party electric mobility business linked to Gensol’s promoters, the Jaggi brothers. That relationship matters because Gensol represented to SEBI that it would procure electric vehicles and lease them to BluSmart for its ride-hailing operations.

The financing and vehicle numbers
| Item | Figure | What the record says |
|---|---|---|
| Total term loans from IREDA and PFC | ₹977.75 crore | Amount SEBI said Gensol had availed, according to its 2025 interim order. |
| Loan portion earmarked for vehicles | ₹663.89 crore | Financing obtained for 6,400 electric vehicles. |
| Vehicles financed | 6,400 | Number for which Gensol obtained funding. |
| Vehicles Gensol acknowledged procuring | 4,704 | Gensol’s figure in its response to SEBI dated February 14, 2025. |
| Consideration confirmed by supplier Go-Auto | ₹567.73 crore | Total consideration reported for the 4,704 vehicles. |
| Amount SEBI said remained unaccounted | Approximately ₹262.13 crore | SEBI’s comparison of expected deployment, including margin contribution, with the reported vehicle consideration. |
The ₹262.13 crore figure is not simply the difference between ₹663.89 crore and ₹567.73 crore. SEBI’s calculation compared the expected deployment of the financed amount, including the required margin contribution, with the supplier-confirmed consideration.
What SEBI alleges happened to the money
SEBI said its tracing of bank statements showed that payments sent to Go-Auto for vehicle purchases were, in many instances, transferred back to Gensol or routed to entities directly or indirectly connected with the Jaggi brothers.

The interim order identified alleged spending unrelated to the sanctioned loan purpose, including personal expenses, high-end real estate and benefits to promoter-linked entities. These are prima facie regulatory observations: they describe what SEBI says the records indicated at an interim stage, not a final finding of criminal guilt.
What each government action means
| Date | Authority | Action | Legal posture |
|---|---|---|---|
| April 15, 2025 | SEBI | Issued an interim order against Gensol and the Jaggi brothers, restricted their access to the securities market and ordered a forensic audit. | Interim regulatory action. |
| May 2025 | Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) | Ordered an investigation under Section 210 of the Companies Act into Gensol, BluSmart and affiliates over possible corporate-governance violations. | Corporate-law investigation. |
| July 30, 2025 | SEBI | Issued a confirmatory order continuing the restrictions. | SEBI said its observations were tentative pending detailed investigation and forensic-audit results. |
| July 31, 2026 | CBI | Registered an FIR after an IREDA complaint alleging diversion of loan funds, forged documents and related criminal offences. | Criminal investigation; an FIR is an allegation, not a conviction. |
SEBI’s securities-market track
SEBI’s orders address investor protection and possible violations of securities law. The April 2025 order imposed interim restrictions and sought an independent forensic examination. The July 2025 confirmatory order kept those measures in place but expressly treated the observations as tentative.

The MCA corporate-governance track
The MCA’s Section 210 inquiry is a Companies Act investigation into the conduct and affairs of the companies. It is separate from SEBI’s market-access restrictions and from the CBI’s criminal case.
The CBI criminal track
The CBI registered its FIR on July 31, 2026, based on IREDA’s complaint. Reporting on that complaint said IREDA alleged losses of ₹453.77 crore for Gensol Engineering and ₹218.97 crore for Gensol EV Lease, excluding interest and other applicable charges. Together, the alleged principal loss exceeds ₹672 crore.

Combining dual-voltage flexibility, a long cable, portable construction, and multiple safety protections, this EV portable charger works as a dependable everyday charger or a convenient backup charging solution.
The complaint also alleged that forged letters were submitted to credit-rating agencies, purportedly showing that IREDA had issued them about the status of the loans and withdrawal of ratings. IREDA said those letters were not issued by its officials and were found to be forged. That allegation will have to be tested through the criminal investigation and any subsequent court proceedings.

Has the Gensol-BluSmart case been proved in court?
No. The cited record does not establish a final conviction, a completed public forensic-audit outcome for every investigative track or a final adjudication of all the alleged money flows.
What is established so far is narrower: SEBI made interim findings about the vehicle shortfall and suspected diversion; the MCA ordered a statutory company investigation; and the CBI registered an FIR containing IREDA’s criminal allegations. A final conclusion would require later regulatory orders, investigation reports, charge sheets and court decisions.
Quick Recap
How to read the headline figures
- ₹977.75 crore is the total term borrowing SEBI said Gensol had availed, not the amount alleged to be missing.
- ₹663.89 crore is the portion SEBI said was earmarked for 6,400 vehicles.
- 4,704 vehicles is the number Gensol acknowledged procuring, leaving a numerical gap against the financed target of 6,400.
- ₹262.13 crore is SEBI’s approximate unaccounted amount under its deployment comparison; it is not a court-determined loss.
- More than ₹672 crore is the combined principal loss alleged in the 2026 IREDA complaint as reported in connection with the CBI FIR, before interest and charges.
