The official notice set out separate MR and SSR advertisements. The available detailed terms below cover SSR; for current vacancies, check the Indian Navy recruitment portal and the relevant batch advertisement.
What the 02/2024 notice covered
The notice invited applications for Agniveer (SSR) and Agniveer (MR) recruitment. Scroll reported that the application period was 13 to 27 May 2024. Those dates relate only to this batch and are not a current application window. Scroll’s 2024 report covered the release and application schedule.
For the official SSR terms, use the Indian Navy’s SSR 02/2024 notification. The MR recruitment was advertised separately; its eligibility and exam details should be checked in the relevant official MR advertisement, not inferred from SSR requirements.
SSR eligibility in the 02/2024 batch
The notice limited eligibility to unmarried Indian men and women. It specified that marriage was not permitted during the four-year engagement. The inclusive date-of-birth range was 1 November 2003 through 30 April 2007.

#1 Best Overall
Applicants needed to meet one of these educational routes, with at least 50% aggregate marks:
- 10+2 with Physics and Mathematics.
- A three-year engineering diploma in a relevant discipline, as specified in the notice.
- A two-year vocational course with Physics and Mathematics, as specified in the notice.
These are the conditions for SSR 02/2024, not a statement of eligibility for later batches. Check the active batch notice for any changed dates or qualifications.

How SSR selection worked
Selection had two stages: INET shortlisting, followed by the Physical Fitness Test (PFT), written examination and recruitment medical examination. Shortlisting and merit were state-wise, so a single national cutoff should not be assumed.
Stage I: INET
The SSR INET was a one-hour, computer-based multiple-choice test with 100 questions at 10+2 standard. It covered English, Science, Mathematics and General Awareness. Candidates had to pass each section as well as the aggregate; the Navy set the pass marks. Each wrong answer carried a penalty of one-quarter mark.

Stage II: PFT, written test and medical
The PFT was qualifying. For the 02/2024 SSR notice, the standards were:
| Test | Men | Women |
|---|---|---|
| 1.6 km run | 6 minutes 30 seconds | 8 minutes |
| Squats | 20 | 15 |
| Push-ups | 15 | 10 |
| Bent-knee sit-ups | 15 | 10 |
Passing the PFT did not replace the recruitment medical examination. Candidates also had to clear the written examination and medical assessment under the notice.

MR and SSR: what can safely be compared
MR and SSR were separate advertisements, so their requirements should be compared using the relevant batch notices rather than treating the roles as interchangeable. The official MR search extract describes INET shortlisting followed by PFT, written examination and recruitment medical. It describes a 50-question computer-based paper with Science & Mathematics and General Awareness sections. Detailed MR education, age and physical criteria are not reproduced here; consult the full official MR advertisement for those conditions.
The distribution of trades depended on Navy service requirements. Do not assume SSR eligibility or its 100-question exam format also applied to MR.

Four-year tenure, retention and benefits
The notice set a four-year engagement. It said up to 25% of each batch could be considered for regular-cadre enrolment, subject to service requirements, policy and objective criteria. This was not a guarantee or a right to continued service. As the notice puts it, “The Indian Navy is not obliged to retain the Agniveers beyond the engagement period of four years.” It also states that Agniveers have no right to be selected for further enrolment.
Under the stated terms, no gratuity or pension benefits applied. Applicants should read the full batch notice for the complete service conditions and use current official information for later policy changes.
SSR pay package and Seva Nidhi figures
The SSR 02/2024 notice gave the following monthly package figures and stated corpus total:
| Notice figure | Amount |
|---|---|
| Monthly package, year one | ₹30,000 |
| Monthly package, year four | ₹40,000 |
| Stated Seva Nidhi corpus total | ₹5.02 lakh |
The ₹5.02 lakh figure was described as a corpus built from contributions by the Agniveer and the Government. These are figures stated in the 02/2024 notice, not a take-home-pay calculation or a promise that later batches retain the same terms.
Where to check current recruitment information
Because 02/2024 is closed, use the Indian Navy’s recruitment portal to find active opportunities and their batch-specific advertisements. For exam preparation for a future batch, match any study material to that batch’s official syllabus and eligibility notice rather than relying on a 02/2024 guide.
