The available evidence supports a narrower claim than the headline: Info Edge reported significant investment in AI and deeptech startups, but that single investor’s portfolio does not establish that India’s startup scene is gaining steam overall. The cited material also does not verify which RBI Governor made the statement, or where and when it was made.
What the available evidence says about startup investment
In its June 2026 shareholder letter, Info Edge (India) Limited said it had invested ₹1,003 crore across 54 AI and deeptech startups since 2020. The company said the portfolio spans enterprise AI, robotics, semiconductors, spacetech, biotechnology and electric mobility. Info Edge’s June 2026 shareholder letter is the primary source for these figures.
These are disclosures about one company’s investment activity, not a total for Indian startup funding. They cannot, on their own, show whether funding across the country is accelerating or whether enterprise AI adoption is expanding market-wide.
How Info Edge breaks down its portfolio
Info Edge reported ₹614 crore invested across 28 AI startups and ₹455 crore across 30 deeptech companies. The company presents these as separate portfolio categories; they should not be added as if the groups are necessarily mutually exclusive. The shareholder letter does not establish a nationwide funding measure.

Why the deeptech portfolio may take longer to mature
Info Edge described its deeptech portfolio as younger than its AI portfolio and said many investments were made at the intellectual-property creation and research-and-development stage. That offers context for the nature of its investments, but it does not establish how quickly those companies will commercialize products, attract further capital or generate returns.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Was the claim made by an RBI Governor?
The cited sources do not confirm the headline’s attribution to an RBI Governor. They provide no verified speech, transcript, event details or direct quotation connecting a Governor to the claim that India’s startup scene is gaining momentum as deeptech funding and enterprise AI expand. Without that primary context, the attribution and broad characterization should be treated as unverified rather than repeated as fact.
Rank #2
Info Edge’s portfolio disclosures show that one investor has allocated capital to these areas. They do not establish aggregate startup funding growth, the scale of enterprise AI adoption in India, or the RBI Governor statement’s source and context.
