It offers a quick way to apply complexion makeup, but the available reviews show that blending and wear can differ by skin type—especially for combination skin. This review weighs ILIA’s product claims against published editor and creator impressions, and explains what to check before choosing a shade.
What ILIA Skin Rewind is—and what it claims to do
ILIA describes Skin Rewind as a buildable, weightless stick that can be used as foundation or concealer. The brand says it blurs the look of pores, redness and texture, gives a natural-matte finish, and wears for up to 12 hours. That wear time is a manufacturer claim, not a guarantee for every complexion or condition. The US listing showed 10 g (0.35 oz) for $50 when accessed in 2026; price and availability may change by location and over time. See ILIA’s product listing.
The formula includes ingredients such as squalane, avocado oil, ceramide NG, ethylhexyl palmitate and polyethylene. Ingredient lists can change, so check the packaging for the version you buy. ILIA says the stick was designed for all skin types, including sensitive and acne-prone skin, and is dermatologist-tested; those are brand statements, not a promise that every user will tolerate it.
How it looks and wears in published reviews
There is encouraging editorial feedback, but it is not uniform enough to treat the finish or wear as universal. Who What Wear named Skin Rewind its “Best Overall” foundation stick and says six editors tested and vetted the product. Its account describes a hydrating, blurring result that felt long-lasting without looking cakey or heavy, including for dry-skin testers. Senior beauty editor Jamie Schneider said it “delivers the prettiest soft-matte finish without making me look cakey whatsoever.” That is one editor’s impression, reported by Who What Wear.

A contrasting account comes from State of Kait’s April 19, 2024 video review. The creator disclosed that ILIA sent her shade 5C Pine. She found the coverage buildable and medium, but described the stick as stiff and harder to blend; on her combination skin, she said the soft-matte finish became very oily. Her experience is useful if you have similar skin, but it remains one person’s result rather than a controlled test. Watch the disclosed review.
Eva Hansen’s March 10, 2024 video is structured as a demo and wear test, with close-ups and checks at two, three and five hours, plus comparisons with other complexion sticks and tools. It is an individual creator’s test, not a lab study. See the demo and wear-test video.

How to apply it
ILIA gives several application options, so a separate brush is not required. For all-over coverage, swipe the stick across the skin and blend. For targeted concealing, pick up product with fingers or a small brush and pat it where needed. The brand also says the product can be applied with fingers, its Complexion Brush or a makeup sponge, and layered over skincare and other complexion products. Start with a small amount and build gradually if you want more coverage.
Choosing a shade
ILIA’s listing showed 42 shades when accessed in 2026, including 5C Pine, described by the brand as “Very light with cool undertones.” Shade counts and stock can change. Match both depth and undertone, and use real-life swatches where possible; lighting and screen settings can make online colors misleading. ILIA provides a shade quiz and cross-product shade guide, but do not assume that a shade name in another ILIA product maps exactly without checking the guide. Check the current shade options and tools.

Is it worth the price?
At the $50 one-time US price shown on ILIA’s listing in 2026, Skin Rewind is a considered purchase rather than an inexpensive trial. Its strongest case is convenience: one stick can serve as foundation or concealer, with several ways to apply it. Whether the cost makes sense depends on how well your chosen shade matches and whether the finish works on your skin. If you are unsure, prioritize swatches and a return policy that suits you over relying on the brand’s wear claim.
For context, Who What Wear lists Westman Atelier Vital Skin Foundation Stick as its “Best Investment” pick, reporting 20 shades, medium coverage, a natural finish, 0.31 oz and $68. Those specifications and price come from that guide and may not reflect current listings. The same guide names Merit The Minimalist Perfecting Complexion Stick as its “Best Versatility” pick, but does not provide comparable specifications in the material cited here. What the longer-term skin claims mean
ILIA reports that a clinical study of 24 people found a reduced appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and increased skin firmness after 28 days. The product-page material does not provide the study protocol or an independently published report, so treat this as a manufacturer-reported result rather than established proof of a lasting skin benefit. ILIA’s listing includes the claim.
Who should consider it
- Consider it if: you want medium, buildable coverage in a portable format and prefer a natural-matte finish.
- Test carefully if: you have combination skin or find thicker sticks difficult to blend; one combination-skin reviewer reported oiliness and stiffness, while other reviewers were more positive.
- Choose another finish if: you specifically want a dewy or light-coverage base. ILIA describes its Super Serum Skin Tint as light coverage with a dewy finish and SPF 40, and True Skin Serum Foundation as medium coverage with a natural finish. These are the brand’s comparisons, not a claim that one product will suit everyone better.
ILIA’s official page also lists a 2024 PEOPLE’s Beauty Award for Best Foundation Stick and a 2024 Real Simple Smart Beauty Award. Awards can be a useful signal of editorial recognition, but they do not establish that a shade or finish will work for you.
