It was not available at every store: customers had to wear family-friendly sleepwear, get an IKEA co-worker’s approval and check in at one of 10 participating stores before 10:30am. Those who qualified received a same-day voucher for one item from a limited breakfast selection, subject to stock.
How the 2024 offer worked
IKEA Australia’s terms required customers to arrive at a participating store and check in with an IKEA co-worker before 10:30am. Sleepwear had to be family-friendly and deemed appropriate by a co-worker. The offer therefore did not guarantee a free breakfast to anyone wearing any kind of pyjamas.
Qualifying customers received a voucher to redeem that day at the Swedish Food Restaurant in the same store. It covered one selected item, subject to availability—not an unrestricted meal or a drink. IKEA Australia’s Pyjama Day terms and conditions set out the conditions.
What the voucher covered
The selected range comprised two small hot breakfasts and three bakery choices:

- Small breakfast: scrambled eggs, two sausages and baked beans.
- Small vegetarian breakfast: scrambled eggs, one vegetarian sausage and baked beans.
- Croissant with tomato and cheese.
- Croissant with ham and cheese.
- Cinnamon bun.
Other breakfast items—including cakes and drinks—were excluded. The terms did not promise that every listed choice would be available at every store.

Why IKEA held Pyjama Day
PerthNow reported on 26 August 2024 that the event marked the start of IKEA Australia’s year-long focus on helping Australians sleep better. The publication quoted IKEA Australia commercial manager Artsiom Tsalko describing the event as “the closest customers will come to sleeping in an IKEA store.”
The campaign also included a separate Instagram skill competition for two pairs of limited-edition veggie-ball pyjamas. Its giveaway terms describe prizes, not a product available for purchase. IKEA Australia’s giveaway terms cover that separate promotion.

In a distinct global campaign event, Ingka Group said 2,051 co-workers gathered in two-piece pyjamas in Älmhult in 2024. That figure refers to co-workers at the gathering, not Australian customers attending Pyjama Day. Ingka Group’s account also linked the campaign to growing customer interest in sleep.
