Reported methods
Reports described inquiries into workers’ personal information through private investigation firms, surveillance or infiltration, and access to police records. Le Monde reproduced the court’s characterization of the policy as “institutionalized” (“Cette politique était institutionnalisée”), in a passage describing investigations, infiltrated agents or surveillance, and criminal-history information obtained through compromised police or gendarmes. Penalties and compensation were different
The judgment addressed the company and 15 individual defendants, whose outcomes varied. Former IKEA France chief Jean-Louis Baillot, who led the company from 1996 to 2009, received a two-year suspended prison sentence and a €50,000 fine. The €1 million corporate criminal fine was separate from civil compensation. Appeals and the status of the verdict
Several people, including Baillot, appealed after the first-instance judgment. AFP reported the appeal filings as of 29 June 2021.
