On July 8, 2015, ijji launched Gameflip as a mobile marketplace where iOS and Android users could buy and sell new or used video games. Contemporaneous GamesBeat coverage also described collectibles and accessories among the marketplace’s categories. That launch-era description is distinct from Gameflip’s current service, which the company now describes as a peer-to-peer marketplace for digital and physical gaming goods.
What was Gameflip when ijji launched it?
GamesBeat reported on July 8, 2015, that app developer ijji had launched the Gameflip mobile marketplace for gamers. Reporter Dean Takahashi wrote, “App developer Ijji is announcing today it has launched the Gameflip mobile marketplace for gamers.” The report described the service as a San Jose-based marketplace for new or used video games, collectibles and accessories, with buying and selling available through mobile apps for iOS and Android. The launch details here come from contemporaneous secondary coverage; the reviewed sources did not include an original ijji launch announcement. The report establishes what Gameflip was presented as at launch, not which categories are available today.
How did the launch-era mobile marketplace work?
At launch, Gameflip was presented as a two-sided marketplace: users could use the mobile app to buy or sell video games. GamesBeat’s report mentioned both new and used games and also named collectibles and accessories as categories. It did not provide transaction statistics, fees, seller protections, or a detailed purchasing procedure, so those specifics cannot be inferred from the launch coverage.

How does that compare with Gameflip today?
Current company materials describe a broader digital-commerce service, but they should not be read as a record of the 2015 offer. Gameflip’s Help Center overview, dated September 17, 2026, describes a peer-to-peer marketplace for digital items, game keys, gift cards and physical gaming merchandise, and states that the platform has 7 million users across 100+ countries. IJJI, Inc.’s annual report dated April 20, 2026, calls Gameflip a digital commerce platform for global gamers. The report says IJJI had facilitated more than $200 million in lifetime sales as of that date and explains that the marketplace earns revenue from buyers and sellers on completed transactions.
