ICF Chennai’s 2023 apprentice application period ended on June 30, 2023. The notice covered 782 apprenticeship training places—252 for freshers and 530 for Ex-ITI candidates—but Class 10 alone did not qualify every applicant for every trade. This is a historical recruitment notice, not an open application.
Is the ICF Chennai apprentice form still open?
No. Applications for Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Chennai, Act Apprentice notification APP/01/2023-24 were accepted from May 31 to June 30, 2023. Scroll reported a closing time of 5:30 p.m. on June 30. Those dates have passed; they are not a current application window. Scroll’s June 2023 recruitment report gives the dates and summarizes the notice.
A later report said ICF issued a provisional selection list for the 2023-24 cycle and published joining instructions. That confirms selection activity followed the application period, but does not establish the present status of each candidate or indicate that a new recruitment is open. Anil Sir ITI’s merit-list report is secondary status information.
What did the 782 places cover?
The notice offered Act Apprentice training—not 782 permanent railway jobs. Contemporary coverage reported 252 fresher places and 530 Ex-ITI places. The listed trades included carpenter, electrician, fitter, machinist, painter and welder, as well as MLT Radiology, MLT Pathology, and Programming and System Administration Assistant (PASAA). The ICF notice frames the opportunity as apprenticeship training under the Apprentices Act, 1961. Scroll’s report and the ICF notification copy hosted by IIT Madras provide these details.

Could a 10th-pass applicant qualify?
Possibly, but “10th pass eligible” is only a shorthand. Qualification depended on whether the applicant was a fresher or Ex-ITI candidate, the chosen trade, marks, subjects, and—where applicable—a trade certificate. The notice’s row for the particular trade matters more than the general headline.
Fresher applicants
Scroll reported that freshers generally needed Class 10 with at least 50% aggregate marks. The notice copy distinguishes subject requirements by trade: some fresher trades required Science and Mathematics in Class 10; Carpenter and Painter freshers and Welder freshers had separate Class 10 requirements. MLT Radiology and MLT Pathology freshers needed Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, so Class 10 alone was not enough for those streams. Scroll’s eligibility summary and the notice copy describe the general threshold and trade distinctions.
Ex-ITI applicants
Ex-ITI applicants generally needed Class 10 with at least 50% marks and a National Trade Certificate in the notified trade from NCVT or SCVT, according to Scroll’s summary. The notice copy also specifies Class 10 subject requirements for Fitter, Electrician, and Machinist, alongside trade-certificate conditions for other trades. An applicant could not assume that any ITI certificate or Class 10 subjects would satisfy every trade’s criteria.
Age requirements in the 2023 notice
The reported age band was 15–24 years as of June 30, 2023. The reported upper-age relaxations were three years for OBC candidates, five years for SC/ST candidates, and ten years for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD). These are terms reported for this 2023 notice; they should not be treated as rules for a later ICF recruitment. Scroll’s report lists the age terms.

Scroll reported that the merit list would be based on Class 10 marks. That summary describes the stated merit-list basis; it does not, by itself, establish every later document-verification or joining requirement. The later provisional-list report shows that selection activity took place after applications closed, but does not show that every applicant was selected.
