Praxis co-founder Dryden Brown proposed exploring a new city in Greenland as a place to test some challenges of building a future Mars settlement. His phrase “I went to Greenland to try to buy it” was a provocative description of that ambition—not evidence that Praxis bought Greenland, secured a site, or received permission to build. The proposal included a possible charter city, industry and mining, and speculative climate interventions; the sources cited here do not establish that any of them were implemented.
What did Dryden Brown propose for Greenland?
Brown visited Nuuk in summer 2024 to explore whether Praxis could work with Greenland’s government on a new city in sparsely inhabited or uninhabited territory, according to TechCrunch’s November 15, 2024 report. He described Greenland as a place to test settlement challenges before a future Mars project, invoking “Terminus,” the name used for a Mars city in Elon Musk’s conception. Brown put the idea this way: “What if we can sort of build a prototype of Terminus?”
In his own November 12, 2024 account, Brown said Praxis was scouting territory for its first city. He described a tax-paying charter city and potential mining and industrial development. He also floated reflecting more sunlight, extending winter daylight, and creating rain, as well as nuclear-powered industry using locally sourced uranium. These were proposals and possibilities, not documented engineering plans, authorized activities, or demonstrated results.
What “recreate Mars on Earth” means here
The phrase is a metaphor for testing aspects of settlement in a difficult environment on Earth. It does not mean Greenland has Mars-like conditions in every relevant respect, or that a Greenland city could reproduce the Martian environment. The cited accounts describe Brown’s ambition, not a defined analogue program with published research results.

Companies Brown cited
TechCrunch reported that Brown named Rainmaker’s cloud-seeding technology and Valar Atomics’ nuclear technology as examples of tools relevant to his vision. That reporting does not establish contracts, deployment, or commitments by either company.
Was Praxis trying to buy Greenland?
Brown’s words—“I went to Greenland to try to buy it”—are his own framing in a public account, not proof of a purchase or transfer. The proposal described in the reporting was to explore a city project and possible work with Greenland’s government. The cited sources do not establish that Praxis bought land, agreed a formal partnership, or received permission to build.

- FOR BASIC TEACHING TO ADVANCED SCIENCE: 444 pieces molecular model kit, including 136 atoms, 158 bonds and 150 parts for Carbon-60(Fullerene), provides to students from Grade 7 to Graduate level.
- TWO CHEMICAL STRUCTURE MODELS: The ball-and-stick models use spheres to represent atoms and sticks to represent chemical bonds. In the space-filling model, the spheres are drawn to scale and are next to one another as atoms are in real molecules.
- CHEMISTRY EDUCATIONAL MOLECULE MODEL IN 3D: It can display chemical structure, molecular bond, and bond angle in all directions. Demonstrate fundamental molecular geometry, chemical molecular structure, stereochemistry with 3D modeling studies.
- EASY TO LEARN: The universal standard adopted for each atom's color makes it easier for you to use and learn. Atoms and chemical bonds combine tightly and firmly and can be easily disassembled by disconnecting tools.

Greenland’s government stated on January 13, 2026, that Greenland is self-governing within the Kingdom of Denmark and that “Greenland is not for sale.” Its statement also rejected US ownership or governance. That official position is distinct from Brown’s 2024 argument that development might create revenue that could support a path to independence. A September 22, 2026 Danish Prime Minister’s Office announcement said an agreement recognized Greenlanders’ right to self-determination and the Kingdom’s sovereignty and territorial integrity; the announcement said parliamentary procedures were still required for it to enter into force.
What did the financing claim mean?
TechCrunch reported that Praxis had access to a $525 million financing facility that it could draw down as it met milestones in its city-building project. That is not the same as $525 million already spent, held as cash for a Greenland construction project, or committed to a build there. Brown also described the financing as available to Praxis in his November 12, 2024 public account; neither cited account says it had been deployed in Greenland.

Brown used an estimate of roughly $500 million a year in Danish support for Greenland to argue that new revenue might reduce the financial cost of independence. That figure is his estimate as reported by TechCrunch, not an independently verified budget figure in the sources cited here. In the same public account, he claimed 97% of Greenlanders favored independence; the reviewed official sources do not corroborate that as a poll result. These claims should not be treated as established measures of Greenlandic opinion or public finances.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Does Greenland’s government support the project, and has it been built?
Brown said he met Greenlandic officials and local businesspeople, and TechCrunch reported on his visit and proposal. Those accounts do not establish government approval or a formal agreement. The available source material also does not establish that Praxis selected a final Greenland site, received land permissions, or built an operating city. Praxis’s press archive includes later Greenland coverage, but press attention alone does not demonstrate site selection or approval: Praxis press archive.

For a personal-finance reader, the key distinction is between a founder’s ambitious proposal and a funded, authorized project. The reported milestone-dependent facility is a financing arrangement, not evidence that a Greenland city exists or that its proposed revenues, infrastructure, and climate interventions have been delivered.
