The Hyundai Genesis Coupe was a rear-wheel-drive sports coupe sold in North America for model years 2010 through 2016. Its used value depends on the specific year, engine, trim, mileage, condition, location, and documented history. For a 2016 model, Kelley Blue Book’s published Fair Purchase Price benchmark ranged from $10,400 to $12,500 by trim, but those figures were stated as valid only through September 18, 2026—not as a live appraisal today.
Hyundai Genesis Coupe history at a glance
Hyundai introduced the Genesis Coupe as a rear-wheel-drive sports car with a choice of a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder or a 3.8-liter V6. Cars.com groups the North American model run as one generation, covering 2010–2016; the 2013 model year brought a substantial mid-cycle refresh rather than a new generation. The coupe ended after 2016. The later Genesis luxury brand is separate: this article concerns the Hyundai-badged Genesis Coupe.
| Model years | Engines and output | Notable changes |
|---|---|---|
| 2010–2012 | 2.0-liter turbo four, 210 hp; 3.8-liter V6, 306 hp, as described in Hyundai’s 2011 model-year announcement | Initial version. Hyundai added the 3.8 R-Spec for 2011; the company described R-Spec and Track trims as having firmer, track-tuned suspension. |
| 2013–2014 | 2.0T, 274 hp; 3.8, 348 hp, per Cars.com’s model history | Mid-cycle exterior and interior update, with higher engine output. |
| 2015–2016 | 3.8-liter V6 only | Cars.com reports the four-cylinder was dropped for 2015. The coupe’s final model year was 2016. |

What changed across the model run
2010–2012: two engine choices
The original lineup paired a 210-hp 2.0-liter turbo-four with a 306-hp 3.8-liter V6. Cars.com lists a six-speed manual with either engine, a five-speed automatic for the 2.0T, and a six-speed automatic for the V6. Hyundai’s 2011 announcement described a six-trim lineup and added the 3.8 R-Spec. It specified Brembo four-piston front calipers and ventilated rotors for the R-Spec and 3.8 Track in that period; do not assume that equipment applies to every year or trim.

2013–2014: refreshed styling and more power
Cars.com identifies 2013 as the mid-cycle update, with revised exterior styling and interior and output rising to 274 hp for the 2.0T and 348 hp for the 3.8. This refresh boundary is a useful first comparison when shopping: two cars with the same engine size can differ by model year and specification.
2015–2016: V6-only lineup
The 2.0T was removed for 2015, leaving the V6 through the coupe’s final year. Hyundai’s 2016 brochure lists a 348-hp 3.8-liter GDI V6, a six-speed close-ratio manual or eight-speed automatic, sport-tuned suspension, and a 6-inch color display. Its EPA estimates were 17/24/19 mpg for the manual and 16/25/19 mpg for the automatic, in city/highway/combined order. The brochure lists a Torsen limited-slip differential and Brembo braking system on R-Spec and Ultimate models.

KBB says its figures use national averages and typical mileage; actual values can vary substantially with mileage, condition, location, and other factors. The range above covers those three listed 2016 trims only. It does not establish the value of other model years or an individual vehicle.
How to judge a specific car’s price
Use the benchmark as a starting point, then compare cars that are genuinely similar. A national figure cannot account for every local market or vehicle-specific difference.

- Model year: Separate pre-refresh 2010–2012 cars from the updated 2013–2014 cars, and remember that 2015–2016 models are V6-only.
- Engine and transmission: Confirm the engine and gearbox rather than assuming they from the badge or seller’s description; choices changed over the run.
- Trim and equipment: Verify the trim and actual fitted equipment. On the 2016 models, the brochure lists a Torsen limited-slip differential and Brembo brakes for R-Spec and Ultimate.
- Mileage and condition: Compare odometer readings and inspect wear, maintenance records, and the condition of the car before using another vehicle’s asking price as a guide.
- Accident and maintenance history: Review available records and have the vehicle inspected if you need a clearer picture of its condition.
- Location: Compare local listings and seek a current valuation for the same year and trim; national averages may not reflect a particular area.
What to know before buying
Cars.com’s road-test coverage noted an unsettled ride on rough roads and an imprecise manual shifter. Those are review observations, not proof that every Genesis Coupe behaves the same way. Test-drive the specific car, including over the kinds of roads you expect to use.
The available sources do not establish a comprehensive reliability record or a model-wide failure rate. Do not treat an individual owner rating or a manufacturer’s promotional description as a reliability statistic. For any used example, condition and documented maintenance matter to the individual purchase decision.
