Huddersfield Town agreed to a sale to an unnamed North American group on 23 March 2023, but the deal was not yet complete on announcement day. The transition later appeared in Companies House records: Kevin Nagle and Town FC, LLC were recorded as persons with significant control from 22 June 2023. The “on verge” description is therefore historical, not a current takeover alert.
What Huddersfield Town announced in March 2023
On 23 March 2023, Huddersfield Town said Dean Hoyle had bought the remaining 75% shareholding from Pure Sports Consultancy, giving him 100% ownership, and had then exchanged contracts to sell all the shares to a North American group. The BBC reported that the group was unnamed at the time. BBC Sport’s report and The Guardian’s report both covered the announcement.

Exchanging contracts was not the same as completing the takeover. Huddersfield said, “Completion is subject to legislative and governance procedures.” The club also thanked supporters for their patience and support, as reported by the BBC.
When the ownership transition was recorded
Companies House filing descriptions for Huddersfield Town Association Football Club Limited record Kevin Michael Nagle and Town FC, LLC as persons with significant control from 22 June 2023. The records also show Dean Hoyle’s cessation as a person with significant control and Nagle’s appointment as a director on that date. These official records document the subsequent transition; they do not name every investor in the original North American group. See the Companies House filing history.

At a supporters’ association meeting on 26 June 2023, minutes recorded Nagle as saying he did not intend to dilute his 100% shareholding immediately by bringing in other investors. That is a statement recorded in the meeting minutes at that time, not confirmation of the club’s ownership at a later date. The minutes were published by Huddersfield Town Supporters’ Association.
Who owns Huddersfield Town now?
The available official control filings identify Nagle and Town FC, LLC as persons with significant control from June 2023. Companies House lists a confirmation statement made on 25 July 2026, filed on 21 August 2026, with no updates. That is the latest listed filing in the company history referenced here; it should not be read as evidence about discussions that might occur later or matters not yet filed.

The contemporary reports and these filings do not establish a complete roster of the original consortium’s members. It would be misleading to present an unverified list of investors as fact.
Why a later stadium-company change is a different issue
A Kirklees Council report signed off on 18 September 2025 addressed proposed changes involving the stadium company, including transfer of the council’s shareholding in that company to Huddersfield Town. It concerns stadium ownership and operating arrangements, not a new takeover of the football club. The council report should therefore be kept separate from the 2023 club sale.

What the reported financial claims establish
The BBC attributed a reported £40 million debt write-off to a Daily Mail report; it was not stated as a club-confirmed figure in the takeover announcement or established by the Companies House control filings. It should not be treated as a verified club figure on the strength of those sources.
