The formal China presale began later, on November 26, 2024, followed by retail sales on December 4, 2024. This is historical launch coverage, not a current 2026 preorder announcement.

Reservation, preorder and purchase were not the same thing
The November 18 announcement described an early reservation or preorder-registration process. Customers could register interest in a Mate 70 without paying a deposit at that point, but that did not necessarily mean they had selected a final configuration, completed a paid order, or secured a launch-day shipment.

- Reservation registration: You record interest before final details are available. It may not guarantee inventory, a particular configuration, or delivery timing.
- Formal preorder: You choose a product and place an order, potentially with payment, payment authorization, or a retailer-specific deposit.
- Retail sale: The phone is available for shipment or store collection under the seller’s published payment and fulfillment terms.
The contemporaneous Tech Times report said Huawei had not yet fully disclosed the release date and some specifications. That is why the November 18 event should be understood as a no-cost registration opportunity rather than a normal completed retail transaction.

What “no down payment” meant
“No down payment” referred to the reported reservation process: customers did not have to pay money upfront to register their interest. It did not establish that Huawei offered a universal zero-interest loan, installment plan, or free phone.
A later purchase could still require full payment or separate financing approval. Any credit terms would depend on the relevant Huawei store, authorized retailer, country, and payment provider. The available launch information does not establish a single financing policy for all Mate 70 buyers.
In practical terms: no deposit to join the reservation list was not the same as no eventual payment, no credit check, or guaranteed allocation.

The final China launch lineup and prices
The November 18 coverage initially discussed three models: the Mate 70, Mate 70 Pro, and Mate 70 Pro+. Huawei’s formal November 26 launch confirmed a four-model China lineup by including the premium Mate 70 RS Ultimate Design.

These were mainland-China launch prices, not U.S. retail prices or currency-converted recommended prices. Taxes, distribution costs, import charges, exchange rates, and warranty arrangements can make an imported device cost substantially more.
Key dates in the launch
- November 18, 2024: Early China reservation activity was reported, with no upfront payment required for registration.
- November 26, 2024: Huawei formally announced the Mate 70 family and opened presales at 6:08 p.m. China time.
- December 4, 2024: Retail sales began at 10:08 a.m. China time.

Strong interest was not the same as sales
Contemporaneous reporting said the reservation program recorded more than 130,000 registrations in roughly 10 hours. That figure should be described as registrations or reservations—not units sold, shipped phones, or active users.

A reservation can be canceled, fail to convert into an order, or apply to a configuration that later sells out. Unofficial later claims of much larger totals should likewise be treated as attributed reservation figures rather than audited sales results.
What changed with the Mate 70 family?
Huawei’s launch materials emphasized a new high-brightness titanium body architecture, second-generation Kunlun Glass on relevant models, camera and battery upgrades, artificial-intelligence tools, and satellite-related communications features on supported China models.

Third-party specification summaries identified the Kirin 9020 platform in the Mate 70 family. Model-specific features can vary, so buyers should check the relevant official Huawei product page rather than assuming that a feature on the Pro+ or RS model applies to the base Mate 70.
Software also requires care. China-market phones use Huawei’s HarmonyOS environment, and HarmonyOS 4.3 should not automatically be treated as identical to HarmonyOS NEXT. App availability, Google services, banking applications, notifications, streaming services, wearable compatibility, and sideloading behavior may differ by model, region, and software build.
Was the preorder available worldwide?
No verified evidence in the launch information supports calling this a worldwide retail preorder. The strongest confirmed details were China-specific: yuan pricing, China sales channels, and a mainland-China release schedule.

Readers outside China should not assume that a China-market Mate 70 will have:
- Official local Huawei warranty or repair support;
- Compatibility with every local LTE or 5G band;
- Google Mobile Services or full compatibility with banking and authentication apps;
- The same software, language, features, or update policy as a regional model;
- Satellite functionality outside the Chinese networks and regulatory environment for which it was designed.
U.S. readers in particular should not interpret the China launch as confirmation of official U.S. availability. An importer may advertise the phone as a preorder or in-stock device, but that is a separate transaction with its own taxes, shipping costs, return policy, warranty risk, and payment terms.
A practical checklist for buyers
- Confirm the selling region. Verify whether the phone is officially sold and serviced in your country.
- Check carrier bands. Compare the exact model number with your carrier’s LTE and 5G requirements. Hardware capability does not guarantee network access.
- Audit your apps. Confirm support for Google services, banking, two-factor authentication, workplace tools, streaming platforms, and wearables before importing.
- Read the payment terms. A free reservation does not guarantee later financing. Check the final price, interest rate, fees, credit requirements, deposit rules, cancellation terms, and delivery conditions.
- Choose storage deliberately. The base Mate 70 offered the lowest entry price, while the Pro, Pro+, and RS models carried premiums for higher-tier hardware and configurations.
- Validate satellite claims. Satellite features depend on hardware, service infrastructure, geography, and regulation. Do not assume a China-market feature will work in another country.
- Price the full import. Include shipping, customs, sales tax, exchange-rate costs, accessories, and the potential cost of an out-of-warranty repair.
Later products such as the Mate 70 Air and Mate 70 Pro Enjoy Edition appear in Huawei’s broader Mate 70 family navigation, but they were not part of the original three-model discussion on November 18 or the four-model launch lineup announced on November 26. They should be treated as separate, later products.

The headline was based on a real Huawei announcement, but its scope was narrower than it sounded. Huawei opened a China reservation process in November 2024 that reportedly required no upfront payment. That meant customers could register interest without a deposit; it did not mean the phones were free, universally financed, guaranteed for delivery, or available worldwide.
The formal China presale began on November 26, 2024, and retail sales followed on December 4, with launch prices from ¥5,499 to ¥12,999. For international shoppers, the more important questions are regional warranty coverage, carrier compatibility, software and app support, and the retailer’s actual payment terms.
