Yes—HP Inc. bought Poly. HP announced the all-cash deal on March 28, 2022, offering $40 per share for an enterprise value of approximately $3.3 billion, including Poly’s net debt. The acquisition closed on August 29, 2022. Poly was the workplace-collaboration company formed from Plantronics and Polycom, not a separate consumer-headphone acquisition by Hewlett Packard Enterprise.

Poly products remain available under names such as Voyager, Blackwire, Savi, EncorePro and Poly Studio. The practical change for owners is that branding, documentation and support are moving into HP’s systems.

  • Connects To: For someone that needs to take and receive calls on a mobile phone.

  • Business and contact-center headsets
  • Desk phones and speakerphones

  • Analytics, device-management software and related services

That made the transaction broader than adding a headset label to HP’s computer business. Poly brought an installed enterprise customer base, specialist collaboration products and sales channels serving offices, contact centers and meeting rooms. The portfolio described in HP’s announcement spans audio, video, phones, software and services: HP’s deal rationale.

Why was Poly formerly known as Plantronics?

Plantronics built its reputation in communications headsets. It later acquired Polycom, whose business centered on conference phones and video-conferencing systems. The combined company adopted the Poly name to signal an audio-and-video collaboration portfolio. In HP’s wording, Poly was “Plantronics, Inc.—formerly Plantronics and Polycom.”

So “HP bought Plantronics” is a shorthand that loses an important detail: the immediate target was Poly, the combined Plantronics-Polycom collaboration company.

When did the acquisition happen?

  1. March 28, 2022: HP announced the agreement and the $40-per-share cash offer.
  2. August 29, 2022: HP announced that the transaction had closed.
  3. After closing: Poly products and services were incorporated into HP’s hybrid-work and collaboration portfolio.
  4. May 31–June 1, 2026: The former Poly Documentation Library was sunset; HP directed users to HP Support for current documentation.

The 2022 transaction value and debt treatment are also recorded in Poly’s SEC filing.

How much did HP pay?

The headline terms were $40 in cash for each Poly share and an enterprise value of approximately $3.3 billion including Poly’s net debt. Enterprise value is not the same as cash delivered to shareholders: it incorporates the company’s debt and other transaction considerations. Calling the deal simply a $3.3 billion cash payment would therefore be inaccurate.

Why did HP want Poly?

HP said the acquisition would strengthen its position in hybrid work and the broader “future of work.” Its stated logic included:

  • Rising demand for home-office, desk and meeting-room collaboration equipment
  • Complementary audio and video capabilities for HP’s PC business
  • A stronger workplace-collaboration portfolio
  • Poly’s enterprise sales relationships and installed customer base

Those were HP’s strategic objectives at announcement, not proof that every projected benefit was ultimately achieved. The transaction rationale is set out in HP’s original release.

What happened to the Poly brand?

Poly did not disappear when the acquisition closed. HP continues to market Poly families including Voyager, Blackwire, EncorePro and Poly Studio, increasingly under the HP Poly or HP | Poly presentation. HP’s current Poly headset portfolio includes Bluetooth, DECT, USB, contact-center and video-conferencing categories.

HP’s 2026 collaboration announcements place Poly headsets, Poly Studio room systems, Poly VideoOS and Poly Lens inside a wider HP workplace ecosystem. For example, HP announced new HP Poly room-compute products and integration between Poly Lens and its Workforce Experience Platform in its 2026 announcement.

What Plantronics and Poly owners should do now

An acquisition does not automatically make an existing device unusable. Support is model-specific and depends on the operating system, firmware, software and published lifecycle status.

  1. Find the exact model and product or serial number.
  2. Use the HP Poly Support portal to locate drivers, firmware, compatibility information and manuals.
  3. Check whether the device is supported by your calling platform, such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom or Google Meet. Certifications and call-control features apply to particular models, not the entire brand.
  4. Check warranty, replacement-part and end-of-life information before deploying the device widely.
  5. If an old manual points to Poly.com or docs.poly.com, look on HP Support instead. HP says the former Poly Documentation Library permanently shut down on June 1, 2026; the transition notice is at HP’s documentation notice.

A legacy headset may continue to work as a basic USB or Bluetooth peripheral even when current firmware or cloud-management support is no longer available. Do not infer ongoing support merely because a model appears in a search result.

Does HP still sell Poly products?

Yes. HP’s U.S. pages continue to list Poly products and services. Prices below are “starting at” figures displayed on HP pages checked in August 2026; they are regional, can change, and do not necessarily include accessories, licenses or deployment costs.

Product family Use Displayed starting price
Poly Voyager Focus Wireless over-the-head office headset $249.99
Poly Voyager Legend 50 In-ear professional headset $109.99
Poly Voyager 4300 UC Wireless UC headset $149.99
Poly EncorePro 300–700 Contact-center headsets $59.95–$144

See HP’s Bluetooth headset listings, contact-center listings and HP store listings. HP’s 2026 announcement listed Poly Studio Room Compute products starting at $2,499 and $3,699, depending on model, with availability through selected resellers.

How to evaluate Poly for a new purchase

  • Connection: Decide between USB, Bluetooth, DECT, desk-phone and multi-device setups.
  • Platform: Verify the exact Teams, Zoom, Google Meet or generic-UC certification.
  • Microphone: Distinguish a boom microphone from boomless microphones and separate listener ANC from microphone-side noise suppression.
  • Management: Individual users may not need a cloud subscription; large fleets may benefit from centralized administration.
  • Room scope: Match a personal headset or huddle-room bar to the room size and compute, display, cabling and licensing requirements.
  • Lifecycle: Confirm firmware support, warranty, replacement parts and compatibility before standardizing.
  • Total cost: Include adapters, charging stands, room computers, licenses, support and deployment labor—not just the device price.

Common mistakes include buying a Teams-certified model for a Zoom-heavy deployment without checking feature support, assuming Bluetooth offers the same controls as a USB dongle, and treating a displayed starting price as a guaranteed final price.

Alternatives to consider

Poly is one option, not a universal best choice. Logitech is a major alternative for room video and workplace peripherals; Jabra competes in professional headsets and contact centers; Cisco may fit organizations standardized on Cisco collaboration; and basic USB-headset vendors can be more economical when centralized management and enterprise certifications are unnecessary. Compare model-specific platform support, microphone performance, management, lifecycle, warranty and total deployment cost.
