West Bromwich Albion reported £37.050 million in staff costs for 2024/25, the year ended 30 June 2025. Deloitte’s 2026 comparison ranks that eighth-highest among 23 Championship clubs with available figures. The commonly used phrase “wage bill” needs a qualification: the accounts figure covers staff across the organisation, not just first-team players.
What is West Brom’s wage bill?
The latest complete reporting-year figure located is £37.050 million in staff costs. West Brom says its accounts cover the 2024/25 Championship season and were submitted to Companies House and the EFL. West Bromwich Albion’s accounts announcement identifies the reporting period.
“Staff costs” is the precise accounting term. It is broader than first-team player salaries: the total includes payroll for players, coaches, academy staff and other employees. The available figures do not establish a separate first-team-only wage total. SalarySport’s explanation of the figure describes that broader scope.
How does West Brom rank against other Championship clubs?
Deloitte’s 2026 Annual Review of Football Finance reports West Brom’s 2024/25 wage costs at £37.050 million. Seven clubs in the comparison reported higher costs, placing West Brom eighth among the 23 clubs with available figures. Sheffield Wednesday’s figure was unavailable, so this is a rank among disclosed clubs rather than every Championship team. Deloitte’s review is the basis for the comparison.
#1 Best Overall
| Measure | West Brom, 2024/25 | Championship, 2024/25 |
|---|---|---|
| Staff or wage costs | £37.050m | £903m aggregate wage costs |
| Turnover or revenue | £30.352m | £942m aggregate revenue |
| Wage costs as a share of revenue | 122.1% | 96% aggregate ratio |
The figures are reported annual accounting costs, not estimates of individual salaries or transfer spending. Deloitte says Championship wage costs rose 1% from £894 million in 2023/24 to £903 million in 2024/25. The league-wide wages-to-revenue ratio increased from 93% to 96%, and 13 clubs recorded ratios above 100%. Deloitte’s league-level figures provide this context.
What does West Brom’s 122.1% ratio mean?
West Brom’s staff costs were greater than its £30.352 million turnover for the year, producing a ratio of 122.1%. This does not mean that first-team player wages alone exceeded the club’s revenue: the cost figure includes staff across the organisation, and turnover is a group-level accounting measure. The ratio is useful for comparing reported costs with reported revenue, but it is not a direct measure of player-pay spending or financial strength.
Comparisons also reflect the clubs and circumstances included in each season’s totals. Deloitte notes that changes in club mix and parachute payments affect the Championship’s financial profile; a league aggregate is context, not a like-for-like comparison of every club’s circumstances. Deloitte’s review discusses those factors.
How have West Brom’s staff costs changed?
Staff costs fell from £42.899 million in 2023/24 to £37.050 million in 2024/25, a decrease of about 14%. Turnover rose from £28.209 million to £30.352 million over the same reporting years. West Brom’s strategic report says the reduction was predominantly driven by changes in first-team players and senior leadership staff. The group accounts contain the annual figures, while the strategic report attributes the reduction.

How should the loss figures be read?
West Brom’s 2024/25 group accounts report an £18.8 million loss before tax. Separately, the club described a £17 million net operating loss as the basis for its EFL Profitability and Sustainability assessment. These are different measures and should not be treated as interchangeable. The club also says certain academy, women’s-team and community costs can be added back in EFL P&S calculations. The accounts and the club’s announcement describe the respective figures.
