Short answer: Meta’s reviewed help materials do not document a way to reveal seller details that are withheld from a Facebook Marketplace listing. You can expand text that the page visibly collapses, review information the seller has chosen to make available, and ask your question through Marketplace messaging—but none of these methods can uncover information the seller did not display.
First, identify what “hidden information” means
A listing description that ends with a visible “See more” or similar control is different from a phone number, email address, or other detail that is absent. Expanding collapsed text shows only what the seller wrote in the description; it does not reveal omitted details. The phrase “hidden information” is not identified as a formal Marketplace feature in the reviewed Meta materials, and no official reveal control is documented. That is a finding about the available documentation, not proof of why a specific detail is missing. Meta Business Help
What you can check on a listing
Expand the visible description
Open the listing and use “See more” or the equivalent control if the description is visibly truncated. If no expansion control appears, or the expanded text still does not contain the detail you need, the listing itself does not provide it.
Review the seller’s available profile and ratings
Check the seller information shown on their Marketplace profile, including any available ratings and listing history. Meta announced profile summaries that may include profile age, friend count, listing history, item types, and seller ratings. Which details appear can vary by location, device, and rollout. Ask through Marketplace messaging
Send a concise question in the Marketplace conversation—for example, asking whether the item is still available or requesting a specific detail about its condition or pickup. Meta’s help information directs users to contact sellers through Marketplace messaging. Facebook Help: Marketplace messaging
If you cannot message the seller
A messaging problem does not establish that information is being deliberately hidden. Facebook lists several possible reasons messaging may be unavailable, including regional limitations, message-volume limits, or restrictions on Marketplace access. Check whether Marketplace is available to your account and whether the message itself is blocked; do not try to bypass a restriction with a third-party tool. Protect your account while asking for details
- A request for a phone number alone does not prove that someone is running a scam, but do not share account-verification or recovery codes.
- Never give a seller or buyer a WhatsApp device-linking code or scan a QR code at their request. Meta warns that scammers may seek a phone number and then a WhatsApp device-linking code, or use a QR code to link their device to your account. Meta’s March 2026 scam guidance
- Avoid browser extensions, lookup services, or other tools claiming they can expose information that Marketplace does not display. The reviewed sources do not establish a legitimate reveal method, and such tools may put your account or personal information at risk.
Does U.S. law require every seller to show a phone number?
No. The INFORM Consumers Act is a U.S. law covering qualifying high-volume third-party sellers on online marketplaces; it does not create a general right to obtain withheld details from every person-to-person Marketplace listing. FTC guidance describes the high-volume seller definition as 200 or more qualifying transactions and at least $5,000 in gross revenue during a continuous 12-month period within the past 24 months. Certain disclosures apply to covered sellers with $20,000 or more in annual gross revenue on a particular marketplace. These thresholds and disclosure rules are not a blanket phone-number requirement for casual sellers. FTC guidance on the INFORM Consumers Act
