Before putting money into a Sui DeFi app that claims to accept Bitcoin collateral, verify four things: the app is on Sui mainnet, the collateral is the exact Sui asset type the protocol documents, your Bitcoin deposit is linked to that representation, and you understand who can move the BTC and how the loan can be liquidated or redeemed. A ticker, wallet balance, partner logo, or “backed” label is not enough. The official Sui materials reviewed for this guide describe Hashi as pre-mainnet, so do not assume a Hashi-based market is ready for real funds.
Is Hashi live on Sui mainnet?
The official Sui materials reviewed as of October 4, 2026 do not establish that Hashi is available on mainnet. Sui’s Hashi landing page says it is available on devnet. A Sui Foundation announcement dated July 22, 2026 says Hashi testnet launched for development and integration ahead of mainnet. A Sui overview dated September 2, 2026 says Hashi “has not shipped yet,” but its testnet timing is stale relative to the July announcement. Taken together, these sources support describing Hashi as pre-mainnet, not as a production BTC-collateral system.
Before connecting a wallet or sending BTC, check current official deployment documentation and the network selector in both the app and wallet. A partner announcement or test deployment does not prove that an app accepts BTC collateral on mainnet. Sui names AlphaLend, Bluefin, Current, Scallop, Suilend, and Navi among ecosystem participants, and Ledger among custody and wallet partners; those names alone do not establish a live market, accepted collateral type, or redemption route.
How to verify Sui Bitcoin collateral before using a DeFi app
-
Confirm the network is Sui mainnet
For a real-value position, the app and wallet should both identify Sui mainnet. Sui describes mainnet as the production network, testnet as a staging environment, and devnet as an unstable development network whose data may be periodically wiped. Testnet tokens have no real value. A polished interface can still be connected to the wrong network; check the network setting before approving anything.

-
Identify the exact Sui asset, not just its ticker
On Sui, a fungible asset is identified by a full type identifier and its issuing package, alongside its metadata. Compare the full type and package shown in the app or wallet transaction with the identity specified in the protocol’s official documentation. A familiar name, logo, or ticker can be copied and does not establish that the token is official, BTC-backed, or redeemable.
-
Match your Bitcoin deposit to the Sui representation
If the app uses Hashi, compare the precise BTC deposit address and transaction with your own Bitcoin transaction record. Follow the current Hashi instructions for required confirmations; the public overview reviewed here does not specify a numerical confirmation threshold. Then check that the Sui-side representation or receipt appeared on the correct network and has the expected type and issuing package. An app notification or a Sui wallet balance by itself does not independently verify the full connection between a particular Bitcoin deposit and the Sui asset.

Verify the transaction and on-chain object
Use a reputable Sui explorer or the protocol’s documented reader to inspect the transaction, its success status, and the relevant object or asset type and package. Sui data interfaces expose transactions, checkpoints, objects, and events. Do not rely on screenshots provided by someone else, and do not sign a transaction whose contents and effects you cannot understand.
-
Find out who can authorize Bitcoin movement
Sui’s Hashi description says native BTC is sent to a unique deposit address; Sui validators monitor Bitcoin and reach quorum after confirmations; an equivalent BTC representation is minted on Sui; and BTC can be withdrawn after repayment. It describes a personalized 2-of-2 multisig address for each Sui address and identifies the validator set and loan smart contract as trust assumptions.

The July 2026 testnet announcement describes a Guardian Layer in which collateral UTXOs require both a Hashi-validator MPC signature and a guardian signature. This is a design description, not proof that collusion, compromised keys, software defects, or operational failures are impossible. Find the app’s own explanation of custody, signing authority, guardian responsibilities, and what happens if a participant is unavailable.
-
Read the price, borrowing, liquidation, and withdrawal rules
Before depositing, establish which BTC price feed the app uses, how often it updates, and what happens if prices are stale or the feed is unavailable. Check the maximum loan-to-value ratio, liquidation threshold and penalty, and whether repayment or withdrawal depends on the app, guardians, or another service remaining operational. Sui’s oracle documentation warns that incorrect or stale prices can cause pool losses or liquidate a healthy position. Hashi’s public page says collateral contracts link price oracles, but the reviewed materials do not provide a complete current set of app-level parameters.
-
Verify any audit claim against the deployed code
An earlier Sui Hashi article says contracts “will be audited” by Asymptotic, Certora, and OtterSec and describes formal verification as planned. Those statements do not establish that completed audit reports exist. If an app cites an audit, locate the report and check its date, scope, findings, reviewed commit or package version, and whether that version matches the code actually deployed. An audit does not eliminate protocol or market risk.
What Hashi’s collateral flow does—and does not—prove
The described flow crosses Bitcoin and Sui: native BTC is deposited at a Hashi-generated address, validators monitor the Bitcoin transaction and wait for confirmations, and a corresponding representation is minted on Sui for possible use in smart-contract collateral. After repayment, BTC can be withdrawn. Each link matters: control of BTC, validation and minting, the Sui asset’s identity, and the withdrawal path are separate checks.

Even if a Sui token is labelled as BTC, a balance does not show on its own that a specific deposit backs it or that you can redeem it. Ask the app to document how deposits are associated with representations, how much BTC can be withdrawn and by whom, and what a user can do if the app or a guardian stops operating. The reviewed public materials do not establish a reserve dashboard or a user-specific confirmation threshold.
Compare collateral routes by their actual risks
Do not reduce a route to a single “backed” or “audited” rating. Compare the evidence for each dimension before deciding whether to proceed.
| What to compare | Evidence to look for |
|---|---|
| Network and availability | Whether the app and asset are on mainnet, and whether the specific market currently accepts the collateral. |
| BTC custody and signing | Whether the route uses native BTC, a wrapped or custodial representation, and which validators, guardians, custodians, or key holders can authorize movement. |
| Asset identity and redemption | The full Sui asset type and issuing package, the claim it represents, and documented steps and conditions for redeeming BTC. |
| Oracle and liquidation | Price source, update freshness, failure behavior, loan-to-value limit, liquidation threshold, and penalty. |
| Withdrawal conditions | Any delay, repayment condition, or dependency on an app, guardian, contract, or other service. |
| Security review | Completed audit scope and date, identified findings, and confirmation that the reviewed version matches deployed code. |
When to stop instead of depositing
Do not treat the collateral as verified if you cannot independently establish the network, asset type, deposit-to-representation link, authorization model, and withdrawal terms. Stop if the app asks you to rely only on a ticker, a notification, a partner logo, an unauthenticated screenshot, or an audit promise instead of verifiable documentation and on-chain details. For an unfamiliar or unclear transaction, do not sign until you can determine what it will do.
