You can use AI-generated music in a monetized YouTube video when you have permission for that specific use, but no AI label or “free” track can guarantee a claim-free upload. YouTube also asks creators to disclose AI-generated music during upload; that disclosure is separate from copyright clearance. Check the track’s license, retain proof, disclose the AI use, and know how to respond if Content ID identifies the music.
Can you monetize a YouTube video with AI-generated music?
Potentially. Monetization depends on whether you have the rights needed for your video and meet YouTube’s other monetization requirements. YouTube’s AI disclosure does not itself reduce a video’s reach or make it ineligible to earn money, but disclosure does not give you a license to use the music. YouTube’s general guidance is to use public-domain music or obtain permission from the copyright owner; for third-party music, check the applicable license for the specific use you intend.
That means “AI-generated,” “royalty-free,” and “free” are not enough on their own. Read the terms for the particular track, provider, and plan. YouTube notes that its systems cannot tell whether music was properly licensed elsewhere.
How to clear a track before you upload
Check the license for your exact use
Confirm in writing that the license covers monetized YouTube videos and the way you plan to use the music. Check the permitted territories and duration, whether attribution is required, and whether the terms restrict redistribution or Content ID enrollment. If the license is unclear about monetization, ownership, or territories, ask the provider before publishing or choose a track with clearer terms.

YouTube points creators toward options such as its Audio Library, Creator Music in certain regions, original music, or third-party music whose license permits the intended use. Do not assume that every AI music service offers the same rights: the terms can depend on the provider, plan, and individual output.
Keep records that support your permission
Save the audio file, track identifier, generation date, provider and plan, and a copy of the applicable license terms. Keep any receipt, account record, or provider statement that specifically covers monetized YouTube use. YouTube does not prescribe this document list, but retaining it gives you evidence to consult if a claim appears.

Disclose AI-generated music during upload
YouTube lists AI-generated music as an example of content creators need to disclose through the upload flow. When asked about altered or synthetic content, answer Yes for a video that uses AI-generated music. The disclosure tells viewers about AI use; it does not establish that you have permission to use the track.
Why Content ID may still claim licensed music
Content ID checks audio against reference material. It does not know whether you bought rights from a provider or have permission under a separate license. A track described as “free” can still match a reference and receive a claim.

A Content ID claim can affect monetization, tracking, or video availability, and the policy can differ by territory. It is not the same as a copyright takedown or strike. A claim alone does not prove that your license is invalid, but your belief that you have permission does not automatically clear the claim either.
What to do if a music claim appears
Review the claim details first
- In YouTube Studio, open the video’s copyright or restriction details.
- Check the claimant, the matched segment, and the policy applied to the video. Note whether the claim affects monetization, tracking, or availability and whether the policy varies by territory.
- Compare the matched track and use against the license and records you saved. Decide whether you have permission for this particular use or a credible basis to believe the match is an error.
If the claim is valid or your rights are unclear
You can leave a valid claim in place or remove the claimed music. YouTube’s available editing options may include trimming the claimed segment, erasing or muting the song, or replacing it with music from the Audio Library. Check the result in Studio after making an edit.

If you have a defensible basis to dispute
Dispute only if you have the necessary rights, a valid copyright exception, or a credible reason the match is mistaken. Explain the specific basis and keep the supporting license or other records. Giving credit, owning a copy of the song, or choosing not to monetize the video are not, by themselves, valid reasons to dispute.
YouTube says the claimant has 30 days to respond to a dispute. Revenue may be held separately while a dispute is pending: if you dispute within five days of the claim, the hold begins on the claim date; if you dispute later, it begins on the dispute date. YouTube does not decide copyright disputes, so do not assert rights you cannot support. If the stakes are substantial or the rights remain unclear, consider qualified legal advice.

Using your track in Content ID is a separate rights question
A license that lets you use music in a video does not necessarily let you submit that music as a Content ID reference. YouTube’s Content ID eligibility rules require exclusive rights to the reference material in the territories where you claim those rights. Check the provider’s terms and YouTube’s requirements before attempting to enroll a track; permission for ordinary video use alone does not establish eligibility.
What to compare when choosing an AI music service
There is no universal ranking of AI music services established by YouTube’s guidance. Compare the actual terms and support process for each provider:
