You can try a Visa debit gift card on Amazon.com by adding it as a credit or debit card in Your Account > Your Payments > Add a payment method, or by entering it at checkout. It may work for most purchases, but approval depends on the card issuer, the card’s available balance and billing details, and Amazon’s authorization checks. If the balance is too small, an alternative to try is using the card to buy an Amazon Gift Card and redeeming that to your Amazon balance.
Choose the payment route that fits

How to add and use the card on Amazon.com
- Activate the card and check its balance. Use the instructions provided by the card issuer. Make sure the remaining amount can cover the order charge.
- Check whether the issuer requires online registration. Some prepaid cards require a registered name and billing address for online purchases. Follow only the issuer’s own registration instructions, then use the matching billing details on Amazon. The requirement varies by card. Amazon staff guidance; one card program’s agreement
- Add the card. On Amazon.com, go to Your Account > Your Payments > Add a payment method, enter the card details as a credit or debit card, and follow the on-screen instructions. You can also add a card during checkout by choosing Add a credit or debit card. Amazon payment-method instructions
- Select it for your order. At checkout, choose the Visa gift card as the payment method. Do not assume Amazon will combine its balance with a separate credit or debit card to cover the same order; Amazon staff guidance says prepaid cards cannot be combined with a credit card on one order. If the payment is declined
- Check the available balance. A prepaid card can only be used up to the funds available under its terms. If the balance is short, reduce the order amount or try the Amazon Gift Card option below. Leave room for any amount the issuer or merchant may authorize.
- Confirm the registered billing details. If online registration is required, a mismatch between the issuer’s records and the details entered at checkout can prevent authorization.
- Ask the issuer about verification requirements. Amazon staff guidance has warned that some prepaid-card payment flows do not support entering a three-digit CVV; if the issuer requires that check, the transaction may fail. - Check the card’s geographic and currency terms. Restrictions vary by program. For example, one card agreement limits its particular card to U.S. use and disallows foreign-currency transactions; that is not a rule for every Visa gift card. Cardholder agreement for that program
Trying the Amazon Gift Card balance route
Amazon staff have described adding a valid prepaid Visa or Mastercard, using it to purchase an Amazon Gift Card, and redeeming that gift card to an Amazon Gift Card Balance. You can try this if direct payment is inconvenient, but success depends on whether the issuer and transaction allow the purchase. Amazon staff guidance

Amazon.com and Amazon Pay are different
These steps concern purchases made on Amazon.com in the United States. If a separate merchant offers Amazon Pay at its own checkout, Amazon.com’s prepaid-card procedure may not apply. Amazon Pay uses eligible payment methods in the Amazon account, and Amazon Gift Cards cannot be used to pay third-party merchants through that service. Amazon Pay payment help
