First check who bills your membership: Apple-billed subscriptions must be managed through Apple, and some Android subscriptions are billed through Google Play.
Before you change anything, check who bills your membership
Open youtube.com/paid_memberships on a computer, or in the YouTube app select Profile picture → Purchases and memberships. Sign in to the account that has Premium. The membership details show its status and billing information, including upcoming billing information. You can also check receipts and transaction activity through Google Pay. - YouTube or Google billing: Use the payment controls shown on the YouTube membership page.
- Google Play billing: Follow the billing controls shown for your membership. YouTube says new YouTube Premium and YouTube Music Premium subscribers who signed up on Android have been billed through Google Play since 2022; that statement concerns new Android sign-ups, not every subscription originally started on an Android device. - Apple billing: If you bought the membership through the YouTube iPhone or iPad app and Apple bills it, change the payment details through Apple’s account or App Store billing settings. YouTube’s iPhone and iPad payment guidance points Apple-billed subscribers to Apple. The exact Apple settings path can vary by iOS version and account.
If the membership is missing, check that you are signed in to the right Google account and verify whether it is billed through Apple or Google Play. Make sure you are looking for YouTube Premium, not YouTube TV.
Change the payment method on a computer
- Go to youtube.com/paid_memberships and sign in to the Google account associated with Premium.
- Select Manage membership.
- Select EDIT beside the current payment method.
- Open the down-arrow payment-method selector.
- Choose another saved method, or select Add credit or debit card.
- Enter the requested details and select SUBMIT.

Change it in the YouTube Android app
- Open YouTube and select your Profile picture.
- Select Purchases and memberships, then the YouTube Premium membership.
- Select EDIT beside the existing payment method.
- Choose another saved method or add a card, enter its details, and select SUBMIT.
The membership screen has a separate EDIT control for adding a backup payment method. Follow the controls shown for your billing setup. YouTube: manage payment methods on Android
Add a backup payment method
A backup method is separate from replacing the primary one: it can help keep the membership active if the primary method cannot be charged. Add one only if the option is available for your account and billing setup.

Remove an old card
Changing the payment method for Premium and deleting a saved payment method are different actions. YouTube directs users to Google Pay to remove a saved method: open Google Pay, find the method, and select Remove. If the old card is still being used for the membership, add and confirm a replacement or backup before removing it; otherwise a future renewal may fail. YouTube payment-method instructions

If YouTube says it could not process your payment
For the message Current payment method could not be processed, use the billing-error prompt rather than cancelling the membership:
- Open youtube.com/paid_memberships, or in the app select Profile picture → Purchases and memberships.
- Select the icon beside the billing-error message.
- Select Update payment method, then choose a different method.
If that update control is not available, YouTube also directs users to Google Pay’s Subscriptions and Services page. For other declines, check the card number and expiration date, confirm the billing ZIP code matches the card’s current billing address, and complete any identity or account-verification request displayed in Google Pay. Confirm there are sufficient funds; if the card has restrictions on recurring payments, contact the bank or card issuer. You can also try another accepted payment method. Why a card or payment option may be unavailable
Accepted payment methods vary by country and billing platform; some countries require a payment method issued in that country. Do not assume that a particular card type or alternative payment option will be accepted for every membership. Check the methods offered in your own billing controls. Pending charge, duplicate-looking charge, or missing Premium benefits
Pending charges
A pending entry in Google Pay or on a card statement may be an authorization hold rather than a completed charge. Multiple pending entries can reflect separate authorization attempts; unsuccessful holds should fall off rather than become completed charges. Check the transaction status and avoid repeatedly submitting the payment form while a charge is pending, since more attempts may create additional temporary holds. YouTube billing troubleshooting
Benefits not showing after a charge
A purchase may still be processing, or the payment may have been declined. Confirm that you are in the Google account with the membership, check its status under Purchases and memberships, and review the transaction or receipt in Google Pay. Do not buy Premium again until you have checked whether the first transaction is still processing. YouTube billing troubleshooting
Will changing the payment method cancel Premium?
Using the membership page to change a payment method or add a backup method is not the same as cancelling Premium. Avoid cancelling and subscribing again just to replace a card unless YouTube or the billing provider specifically requires it: cancellation can affect the renewal date, promotional pricing, trial eligibility, or access after the current billing period, depending on the subscription.
