A marketplace profile change does not amend your government registration, and a GST registration change is not the same as changing the tax classification of individual products.
What should you update?
Compare the change with your current GST registration certificate and identify which record it affects. A change to your legal name, registered place of business, business constitution, authorized signatory, or other registration particulars may require a GST Portal amendment. Marketplace accounts can also hold separate tax-profile details, fulfillment or pickup addresses, and product-level tax classifications.
- GST registration particulars: The government record and certificate.
- Marketplace tax profile: The GSTIN and supporting documents held in each seller account.
- Fulfillment location: A pickup or shipping address maintained by a marketplace.
- Product tax setting: A listing-level GST rate or Product Tax Code (PTC), where the platform uses one.
These records serve different purposes. Updating one does not automatically update the others.
How do you amend GST details on the GST Portal?
GST Portal guidance separates amendments into core and non-core fields, so choose the amendment route that matches the detail being changed. CBIC’s published registration rules state that an amendment application must be submitted within 15 days of a change. Check the current portal workflow and applicable rules; older versions of the rules may use legacy form references.

- Sign in to the GST Portal and open Services > Registration.
- Select the amendment option for the relevant field: Amendment of Registration Core Fields or Amendment of Registration Non-Core Fields.
- For a non-core amendment, edit the relevant tab, complete the verification section, select the authorized signatory, enter the place, and submit. The GST Portal guide says a successfully filed non-core amendment is automatically updated without tax-official approval.
- For a core-field change, follow the separate core amendment workflow and any review steps shown by the portal.
- Save the acknowledgement or reference number and check the GST Portal profile and certificate to confirm the amended details.

How do you update each marketplace account?
After the government record is correct, update the seller tax profile in every marketplace account that uses the affected GST details. Do not assume the GST Portal synchronizes changes to private marketplace accounts.

Amazon’s public seller materials explain that GST details are required for sellers listing taxable goods, but they do not publish a durable step-by-step route for an existing seller changing registration details. Check the tax-information settings in your logged-in Seller Central account or contact Seller Support for the current process and accepted proof.
Amazon’s seller registration guide says that if GST verification fails, sellers can upload a GST certificate (REG-06 with Annexure A and Annexure B) in PDF, JPG, or DOC format, under 10 MB. It says verification during registration can take up to 72 hours and that other registration steps may continue while documents are reviewed. This is onboarding guidance, not a guaranteed processing time for changes to an established account. See Amazon’s seller registration guide and GST information FAQ.

Use the logged-in seller account or the platform’s seller support to confirm the current menu, required documents, and verification status. Exact current update instructions for existing GST profiles are not established in the cited official material, so avoid relying on an old menu path or an unofficial step-by-step guide.
What if your GST address or pickup location changed?
A marketplace pickup address and the address on your GST registration are separate records. Amazon says an Easy Ship pickup address should be in the state where the GST registration is held, and that the pickup address can be changed in Seller Central account settings. If your registered business address itself changed, amend it on the GST Portal as well; changing a pickup location alone does not amend the registered principal place of business. Is changing your GSTIN the same as changing a product’s GST rate?
No. A GSTIN, legal name, or registered address belongs to the registration and seller-account records. A product’s GST rate or PTC is a listing-level tax setting. Amazon says its GST calculations use the PTC selected for an ASIN, with an account-level default if no ASIN-level PTC is selected. Review product classifications separately when relevant; changing registration details does not confirm that listing tax settings are correct.
Amazon’s PTC instructions for GST rate changes effective September 22, 2025, describe individual listing edits and bulk uploads. Those instructions address that date-specific rate change, not an amendment to a seller’s GST registration. Check current rates and marketplace guidance before changing product settings. What should you verify before considering the update complete?
- The GST Portal profile and downloadable certificate show the amended information.
- Each marketplace account that uses the affected details has been updated and shows the current verification status.
- Any fulfillment or pickup address affected by the change is separately checked against the marketplace’s requirements.
- Product-level PTCs or GST rates have been reviewed separately if the product tax treatment changed.
If the change involves legal identity, PAN, or business constitution, ask each marketplace whether the existing seller account can be amended or whether a different account process applies. The rules are not established as universal across platforms.
If you sell through AWS Marketplace
AWS Marketplace is distinct from Amazon.in retail Seller Central. AWS says sellers should update changed information on its Tax Settings Page because that information is used for marketplace tax invoices. Do not apply that AWS interface or process to another marketplace. See AWS Marketplace India tax settings.
