Track U.S. Treasury and Federal Reserve liquidity alongside crypto spot, derivatives and on-chain data—but treat the dashboard as context, not a proven trading signal. The series have different owners, meanings and publication schedules, while crypto trades continuously; a comparison is useful only when dates and frequencies are aligned honestly.
Which measures belong on a liquidity dashboard?
Start with several measures rather than a single “liquidity” number. Federal Reserve assets, bank reserves, the Treasury’s cash balance and overnight reverse repos describe related but distinct parts of the financial system. Short-term rates add funding context; crypto indicators show market behavior and positioning.

The TGA is the Treasury’s cash account at the Fed. Treasury uses it for tax receipts, federal disbursements, debt-interest payments, and settlement of issuance, maturities and buybacks. When cash flows into or out of the account, reserve conditions may change as those transactions settle. The size and timing of an effect depend on the transactions involved; a TGA move does not mechanically dictate a crypto price move. The New York Fed’s annual report on open market operations during 2025 describes the account’s uses.
Do not confuse the TGA with ON RRP or Fed assets. ON RRP is a Federal Reserve operation, not Treasury cash. FRED’s explanation of RRPONTSYD describes temporary open-market operations and their reserve effects; it is not a measure of the Fed’s total assets.

A period-specific example illustrates why dates matter: the Federal Reserve’s May 2026 Balance Sheet Developments report described a $79 billion increase in TGA balances. That is a reported increase discussed in that report, not a current TGA balance or a standing forecast.
Which crypto indicators complement the macro data?
Spot price and volume
Use spot prices and trading volume to see the asset’s observed market price and activity. Record the exchange or provider, asset, currency and time convention. Crypto trades around the clock, but venues and data providers can differ in coverage; a displayed aggregate is not automatically a complete market-wide measure.

Funding rates, open interest and liquidations
Derivatives indicators describe different aspects of leveraged positioning. Funding rates show periodic payments associated with perpetual futures markets; open interest tracks outstanding derivatives positions; liquidations report positions closed under venue rules. Provider coverage can vary by venue and instrument, so label the source and scope instead of presenting a composite as a census of the whole market. On-chain indicators provide a modeled view of blockchain activity, not a record of every trade or investor’s full cost basis. Realized price and MVRV relate market price to a model of on-chain cost basis. SOPR describes whether spent outputs are being realized at a profit or loss under the provider’s methodology. Glassnode’s metric documentation explains these measures; exchange trades and other off-chain activity are not fully represented by chain data.
When comparing providers, check data provenance, update frequency and lag, asset and venue coverage, methodology transparency (including treatment of entity attribution and internal transfers), and access to historical data. Provider definitions should travel with the chart: a metric with the same name can still depend on data scope and calculation choices.
How do you build a reproducible tracking routine?
- Choose a comparison window. Use daily charts for daily series, and retain weekly observations at their native frequency. Do not silently interpolate a weekly value into daily readings or imply that it changed every day.
- Log the series details. For each measure, note its identifier, units, source agency or provider, observation date, release date, frequency and whether it is a level, flow, rate or average. For crypto data, also record the venue or provider coverage.
- Align dates before comparing. A weekly Wednesday balance-sheet observation and a crypto weekend close are not measurements from the same timestamp. Mark weekends, holidays, release lags and revisions so gaps are visible rather than hidden.
- Compare changes and turning points across groups. Look across TGA, ON RRP, Fed balance-sheet and reserve data, short-term rates, and crypto spot, derivatives and on-chain indicators. Convergence across distinct measures can provide context; one series alone may move for reasons unrelated to crypto demand.
- Document any calculation you add. A measure such as Fed assets minus TGA minus ON RRP is an analyst-defined proxy, not an official Federal Reserve measure. State the units and frequency conversions, and preserve the component series so readers can see what drives the result.
- Separate observation from explanation. Note what changed and when before offering a possible mechanism. Definitions and publication methods do not establish that a particular liquidity reading reliably predicts a crypto move.
How should you read the dashboard without overclaiming?
Read the macro series as measurements with different clocks and institutional meanings, not as a single real-time liquidity feed. A daily ON RRP figure, a weekly holdings observation and a daily crypto price may each be valid while referring to different periods. Use observation dates for alignment and release dates to understand when information became available.

Then distinguish what the indicators measure. A short-term rate is a funding price; an account balance is a stock; an operation can be reported as a daily result; and a crypto liquidation series reflects the provider’s covered venues. Combining these into one line does not erase their differences.

Use the dashboard to frame questions and compare conditions, not to treat correlation or simultaneous movement as proof of cause.
