Use a fund-by-fund tracker for daily Bitcoin ETF flow estimates, then verify holdings on the issuer’s fund page or in SEC filings. Keep flows, assets under management (AUM), holdings, and trading volume separate: each measures something different. Before comparing funds, check whether they hold bitcoin directly or use futures.
What Bitcoin ETF flows and holdings tell you
- Flows describe money entering or leaving a fund, generally reflected through share creations and redemptions. Third-party daily-flow charts can provide an aggregate view, but their figures may be estimates.
- Holdings show the assets a fund reports owning at a particular date. Issuer pages and regulatory filings are the places to verify them.
- AUM is the value of assets managed, not a direct measure of investor flows. It can move with bitcoin’s price and fund expenses as well as changes in shares outstanding.
- Trading volume measures shares traded on an exchange; it does not by itself show money entering or leaving the fund.
For example, BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF reported 734,261 bitcoin held on June 30, 2026. In its filing, the trust separately reported 277,840,000 shares created and 340,480,000 shares redeemed during the six months ended that date. These are dated reporting-period figures, not a live balance or daily flow. BlackRock/iShares SEC quarterly filing
How to track flows and verify holdings
- Define which funds you are tracking. Decide whether your list covers, for example, US-listed spot Bitcoin funds only. Do not mix in futures-based products unless you label them as a separate category.
- Use a flow tracker for an aggregate daily view. Record the date, each fund’s row, the tracker’s stated update time, and whether its numbers are estimates. CoinGecko’s 2025 second-quarter report credits Farside Investors and The Block as sources for a chart of daily net flows for US spot Bitcoin ETFs. That attribution identifies the chart’s data sources; it does not establish either service’s current calculation rules or update schedule. CoinGecko’s 2025 Q2 report
- Check the issuer’s holdings page. Find the fund’s official page and note its holdings date. Bitwise, for example, presents fund holdings and bitcoin per share on its site. Bitwise fund information
- Use SEC filings for dated, detailed records. A filing can provide holdings schedules, shares outstanding, and creation and redemption information for a defined reporting period. Treat it as a snapshot for that period, not an intraday feed. iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF filing
- Reconcile before drawing conclusions. Compare holdings and share counts with reported creations and redemptions, then account for bitcoin price movements, sponsor fees, and the dates each source covers. Do not treat a change in dollar AUM as an equivalent same-day net inflow or outflow.
Check whether a fund holds bitcoin or futures
A Bitcoin-related name does not tell you what instrument a fund owns. The iShares filing lists bitcoin in its portfolio, while ProShares’ BITO holdings page lists bitcoin futures and other instruments. Keep spot funds and futures products distinct when building a flow comparison or describing exposure. iShares filing; ProShares BITO holdings
How to compare flow trackers responsibly
Before relying on or combining tracker figures, check the provider’s current methodology and record these details:
#1 Best Overall
- Coverage: Which funds and countries are included? Is the set limited to spot products?
- Calculation: How does the provider estimate net flows, and how does it treat creations and redemptions?
- Timing: What date, market close, time zone, and update cadence does each figure use?
- Data status: Is the figure an estimate, issuer-reported information, or another type of measure?
- Product mix: Are spot funds separated from futures-based products?
These checks matter because holdings, flows, AUM, and trading volume are not interchangeable, and data from different sources may cover different dates or fund universes. The cited secondary chart confirms that third-party aggregate flow charts exist; it does not verify the named trackers’ present-day methods or completeness.

Flow figures are not a direct forecast of bitcoin’s price. They describe fund activity over a stated period, while the market price can move for many other reasons. Likewise, a filing’s reported holdings describe the fund at a particular reporting date; they should not be presented as current live holdings unless the issuer provides a current figure.

Whenever you quote a number, attach the fund name, measurement (such as holdings or shares redeemed), date or reporting period, and source. That makes it possible to compare like with like rather than mistaking a dated snapshot or estimate for a real-time market-wide total.
