To track a Bitcoin or BNB Smart Chain transfer, search its public address or transaction ID/hash in an explorer for the network that carried it. Use Mempool.space for Bitcoin and BscScan for BNB Smart Chain (BSC). Check the transaction status, recipient, and asset details; a wallet app’s history may not show every transaction associated with a public address. Never enter a seed phrase or private key into an explorer.
Choose the right network and lookup
Use a transaction ID or hash when checking one specific transfer. Search a public address when you want to inspect activity associated with that address. The network matters: the same-looking token name or address format does not prove which chain carried a transfer.
- Bitcoin: Search the address or transaction ID in a Bitcoin explorer such as Mempool.space.
- BNB Smart Chain: Search the address or transaction hash in BscScan for BSC mainnet. BNB Chain lists BSC mainnet as Chain ID 56 and testnet as Chain ID 97, each with its own explorer; other networks, including opBNB, also have separate explorers. See BNB Chain’s network configuration.
Copy only the public address or transaction identifier from the wallet or transfer record. An explorer does not need your recovery phrase or private key.
Track a Bitcoin transaction
- Copy the Bitcoin address or transaction ID from the wallet or transfer record.
- Open Mempool.space and search the address to inspect associated activity, or search the transaction ID to open one transfer.
- Check whether the transaction is unconfirmed in the mempool or appears in confirmed history. Mempool.space documents separate endpoints for unconfirmed address activity and confirmed history, with pagination for confirmed transactions. Its REST API documentation describes these distinctions.
- Compare the recipient/output, amount, fee, and status with the sending wallet’s record. If you operate Bitcoin Core, its gettransaction RPC can return details for a transaction known to that wallet.
An unconfirmed transaction has not yet been included in confirmed history, so do not treat a mempool listing as settled. If an address has a long history, the explorer may paginate results rather than show everything at once.

Track a BNB Smart Chain transaction
- Confirm which network the sender used: BSC, another BNB Chain network, or a different chain entirely.
- For BSC mainnet, open BscScan. Use the corresponding explorer for BSC testnet or another network rather than assuming one explorer covers all BNB Chain activity.
- Search the transaction hash to inspect one transfer, or search the public address to inspect related activity.
- Verify that the transaction succeeded and that the recipient address and token match what the sender intended. BNB Chain’s token visibility FAQ recommends checking the transaction and recipient when assets do not appear.
- If the transfer is visible on-chain but not in the wallet, confirm that the wallet is set to the network where the asset was sent and that it supports or displays that token.
Seeing an on-chain transfer and seeing a token in a wallet interface are separate things. Exchange crediting or a recipient’s acceptance rules may also differ from the network’s transaction status. BNB Chain’s BSC API documentation discusses probabilistic and economic finality; there is no single confirmation threshold to assume for every service or use case.
Why the explorer and wallet history can differ
A wallet app may present activity it recognizes as belonging to that wallet. An explorer can show indexed public chain activity associated with an address. These views have different scopes, so an incomplete wallet history does not by itself show that no transaction took place.

For example, Bitcoin Core’s listtransactions RPC returns recent transactions associated with the local wallet and supports count and skip arguments. That is not the same as searching the broader address history documented by Mempool.space. If you already run Bitcoin Core and need information about a transaction known to your wallet, its gettransaction RPC accepts a transaction ID and returns wallet transaction details.
Troubleshoot a missing transfer
No result appears
- Check for a copying error in the address or transaction ID/hash.
- Make sure the explorer matches the network actually used. BSC, its testnet, opBNB, and other chains do not share a single transaction history.
The transaction appears, but the funds do not
- Check whether it succeeded, then compare the recipient address, token, and network with the sender’s details.
- If an explorer shows the activity but the wallet does not show the token, check the wallet’s selected network and token support or display settings.
- If the transfer was sent to an exchange, the exchange may apply its own crediting requirements; the on-chain status alone does not establish that the exchange has credited the account.
The Bitcoin transfer is pending
Check whether it is still in the mempool or has entered confirmed history. An unconfirmed listing is not the same as a confirmed transaction.

Privacy and safe lookup
Blockchain transactions are public, but a public address alone does not establish a person’s identity. Using a third-party explorer can reveal to that service which address you queried. Bitcoin Core’s privacy documentation describes how wallet queries to servers can expose addresses. Avoid linking an address to your identity unnecessarily, and never provide an explorer—or anyone offering to “trace” funds—with a seed phrase or private key.
