Memory-market forecasts show prices still rising in late 2026, but that does not tell you whether a particular RAM kit or SSD has peaked at retail. TrendForce forecasts 4Q26 contract-price increases for conventional DRAM and NAND Flash; those are upstream market prices, not promises about what shoppers will pay. To judge the consumer market, track the same product specifications and regional retail listings over time, and distinguish a slower increase from an actual decline.
Are RAM and SSD prices still going up?
TrendForce’s 30 September 2026 outlook forecasts conventional DRAM contract prices to rise 10–15% quarter over quarter in 4Q26, and NAND Flash contract prices to rise 15–20%. These are forecasts for contracts between suppliers and buyers, not a measured increase in retail prices. The outlook points to continued upstream increases, with a moderated pace for conventional DRAM; a slower increase is not evidence that prices have peaked.
Conditions also differ by product category. PC DRAM procurement is supported by expectations of tight supply in 2027, even as higher component costs weigh on notebook sales. For client SSDs, PC brands can draw on finished-goods and channel inventory and reduce costs by fitting lower-capacity drives in mainstream systems. Those actions can restrain procurement and price increases. TrendForce separately projects enterprise SSD bit demand to grow by more than 80% year over year in 2026 and expects enterprise SSD price growth to accelerate in 4Q26. Enterprise demand is not a reliable proxy for consumer SSD pricing. TrendForce’s 30 September 2026 outlook covers these distinct market conditions.
Which price signal are you looking at?
| Signal | What it measures | What it can tell a shopper |
|---|---|---|
| Contract prices | Upstream prices negotiated between suppliers and buyers; TrendForce forecasts 4Q26 contract increases of 10–15% for conventional DRAM and 15–20% for NAND Flash. | Indicates supply-chain direction, but does not determine the timing or size of a retail change. |
| Company average selling prices (ASPs) | Micron’s company-wide DRAM and NAND selling prices, averaged across its business and product mix. | Shows changes in a supplier’s realized selling prices, not the price of a consumer RAM kit or SSD. |
| Retail street prices | Listings for specific products at retailers, in a particular market and on particular dates. | Most directly relevant to a purchase, provided you compare the same specification and account for discounts and stock changes. |
Micron reported that its DRAM ASPs rose approximately 140% and its NAND ASPs approximately 130% in the first nine months of fiscal 2026 compared with the corresponding period of fiscal 2025. Those are company-wide averages, not consumer retail price movements. Micron’s fiscal 2026 third-quarter Form 10-Q provides the company’s reporting context.

TrendForce’s pricing page separates spot prices, OEM contract prices and SSD street-price observations; its street-price section lists individual SSD examples rather than a universal global average. Some observations have their own update dates, so check the date and market for each listing before drawing a comparison. TrendForce’s NAND Flash Price Trends page is useful for keeping those different indicators separate.
How can I tell whether memory prices have peaked?
- Choose one specific product class. For RAM, compare the same generation and form factor—such as DDR5 desktop DIMMs with DDR5 desktop DIMMs. For SSDs, hold interface, form factor and capacity constant, such as 2 TB M.2 NVMe drives. Check that the RAM is compatible with your motherboard and processor, or that the SSD fits and is supported by your device.
- Record actual listings in your region. Use the same retailer or a consistent set of retailers, and note the date, listed price, model and capacity. A price-comparison page can help locate listings, but verify the actual product and price on the retailer’s page.
- Separate price changes from product changes. Do not treat a lower-capacity model, a different performance tier or a temporary discount as a price drop for the same product. Record whether a listing is discounted and whether the product is in stock.
- Compare both the level and the pace. A product still getting more expensive, but by less each time, has slowing price growth—not a confirmed peak. A peak becomes more plausible when comparable retail prices stop rising across repeated observations; a sustained decline is stronger evidence of a retail reversal.
- Keep upstream forecasts in a separate column. Track contract forecasts as context and retail listings as consumer-price evidence. Contract changes may pass through with a delay, may be offset by inventory or product changes, and need not affect every listing equally.
TrendForce’s page can help you identify street-price examples for SSDs, but it does not establish a comprehensive retail RAM price series. The figures cited here therefore cannot confirm that broad consumer RAM prices have peaked.

Why can the shelf price move differently from the market forecast?
A forecast concerns a defined market and time period; a shopper sees a particular product at a particular retailer. The gap between them can reflect when a retailer replenishes inventory, how much stock remains in the channel, product mix, discounts and changes in system configurations. TrendForce specifically notes that finished-goods and channel inventory, plus lower SSD capacities in mainstream PCs, can constrain client SSD procurement even while enterprise SSD demand is stronger.
For a household budget, the practical measure is the cost of the compatible product you would actually buy—not a supplier’s contract forecast or a manufacturer’s average across many products. If you are not ready to buy, keep a dated record of a short list of equivalent models. That turns “prices feel high” into a testable comparison without mistaking an upstream forecast for a retail price index.
