A familiar logo, sale banner, HTTPS padlock or countdown timer does not prove that a link is genuine or that a discount is worthwhile.
Check that the offer really leads to Flipkart
Do not follow a sale link from an ad, message or social post if you are unsure where it goes. Open Flipkart independently in your browser or app and search for the offer there. Flipkart’s guidance says, “Only Flipkart owns the domain ‘flipkart.com’” (Flipkart Stories, October 6, 2026).
If you inspect a link, check the full domain—not just whether the word “flipkart” appears somewhere in the address. Look for misspellings, extra words, unfamiliar domain endings such as .biz, or a different site using a Flipkart-like name. A deceptive address can also place “flipkart” in a subdomain while the actual domain belongs to someone else. Flipkart identifies lookalike domains and unrelated sites copying its design as warning signs (Flipkart’s website and app guidance).
HTTPS means a connection is encrypted; it does not establish that a site is operated by Flipkart. Likewise, a logo, professional-looking page or verified-looking ad is not proof. Use the official app or website to confirm the offer before signing in or entering payment details.

Pause when an expensive product is advertised at an implausibly low price, especially when the page adds a countdown or insists that the offer will disappear immediately. Flipkart warns that fake promotions can pair extreme discounts with urgency tactics (Flipkart’s guide to fake ads). These signs do not prove fraud by themselves, but they are reasons to verify the deal through Flipkart’s official channels rather than act under pressure.

Do not pay a supposed Flipkart seller or representative through a personal UPI ID, personal bank account or external QR code. Flipkart flags those requests as suspicious in the context of fake storefronts. Do not share your password, one-time password (OTP), PIN or banking details with someone claiming to represent Flipkart (Flipkart’s scam advisory).
Check whether the discount is real for the item you want
A displayed percentage is not enough to tell whether you are getting a meaningful saving. Compare the same model and variant, the same included quantity and the relevant seller context. Then check the current price against that item’s earlier prices and compare the final amount payable—not just the headline price.

- Match the product. Confirm the precise model, variant and quantity. A price history for a similar product may not be a useful comparison.
- Look at the price history. A historical graph can show whether today’s listed price is unusual compared with earlier prices. Buyhatke describes its Flipkart tracker as offering a three-month price graph, store comparisons and price-drop predictions. Those are the vendor’s stated features, not independent verification of the data or a guarantee that a deal is genuine (Buyhatke’s Flipkart Price History Tracker).
- Separate the base price from conditional benefits. Treat a card offer, exchange value or other benefit as conditional until you have read its requirements. Do not count it as an unconditional price reduction if you cannot or will not meet those conditions.
- Check the checkout total. Compare what you will actually pay with the offer display, including applicable taxes, delivery charges and any other listed charges. The final total—not the advertised percentage—is the amount that matters to your budget.
There is no universal official historical-price window or formula in the cited guidance for deciding whether a Flipkart discount is “real.” Price history is a practical comparison tool, not a legal determination. Use it alongside the product match, offer conditions and payable total.
Why the amount payable can differ from the advertised discount
In a September 26, 2025 release describing an order against FirstCry, the Central Consumer Protection Authority said a product advertised at 27% off was effectively discounted by 18.2% after GST was applied at checkout. That was a specific FirstCry case; it is not evidence that Flipkart used the same practice. The release says the applicable e-commerce rule requires the total price, inclusive of charges and taxes, to be displayed upfront (Ministry of Consumer Affairs release on the FirstCry order).

The same release described the FirstCry case as drip pricing and said disclaimers did not override the requirement that MRP include taxes. The practical lesson is to compare the advertised offer with the checkout total, without assuming that this finding applies to Flipkart or that every discount display is unlawful.

The Ministry of Consumer Affairs said the Central Consumer Protection Authority issued the Guidelines for Prevention and Regulation of Dark Patterns, 2023 on November 30, 2023. Its December 8, 2023 release describes dark patterns as design and choice architecture used to deceive, coerce or influence consumers, and lists drip pricing, disguised advertisements, bait and switch, and false urgency among the examples. The release says such practices fall under unfair trade practices as defined in the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 (Ministry of Consumer Affairs release on the dark-pattern guidelines).

The National Consumer Helpline summarizes consumers’ rights to be informed about price and other product information and to seek redressal against unfair trade practices (National Consumer Helpline: Consumer Rights). For a suspected fraud involving Flipkart’s name, follow the company’s current official scam advisory for reporting routes; it identifies the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal for fraud-related incidents (Flipkart’s scam advisory).
