You can offer shipping on a Facebook Marketplace listing only if the feature is available for your account, location, and item. Start in the Facebook app for iPhone or Android, where Meta says its shipping-performance tools are available; the exact listing controls can vary. Before publishing, confirm the checkout terms, package details, return address, payout information, and any verification prompts shown in your account.
Check whether you can use Marketplace shipping
Meta says shipping and prepaid-label features are not available to every user. Availability can depend on your location, account access, item eligibility, verification status, and whether the feature is enabled for your account. Marketplace access itself is limited to adults in supported countries, and Meta may restrict access for some new, inactive, additional, or policy-violating accounts. Use the main Facebook app on iPhone or Android to check for shipping controls first. Meta identifies those apps as the current environment for shipping-performance information, so a missing control on desktop does not by itself establish whether your account is eligible. Get these details ready
- An active adult Facebook account with Marketplace access in a supported location.
- An item that is allowed on Marketplace and eligible for shipping. Review Meta’s shipping policies and best practices; do not choose a misleading category to make a shipping option appear.
- Accurate item weight and package dimensions if Facebook requests them. Incorrect measurements can affect the label or shipping charge.
- A physical return address. Meta’s seller-verification guidance says a P.O. Box cannot be confirmed as proof of residence.
- Payout details, plus identity or tax information if Facebook requests it.
- Clear photos and a realistic description of the item’s condition.
For U.S. seller verification, Meta may request proof of identity, address, and SSN or ITIN information. Accepted identity documents can include a passport, driver’s license, or state or government ID, and the name on the document must match the name registered on the Marketplace profile. Turn on shipping when creating a listing
Use the controls actually offered in your app. Meta’s public help pages do not establish one universal sequence of screens or labels, so your account may show “Shipping,” “Delivery,” or “Shipping and checkout,” or may not offer shipping at all.
- Open the Facebook app and tap Marketplace.
- Tap Sell or Create new listing, then choose Item for sale.
- Add photos, title, price, category, condition, description, and location.
- When the delivery or checkout controls appear, select the shipping option if it is offered.
- Enter the requested package details accurately. Confirm any handling information and seller or return address requested.
- Add or confirm payout information and complete identity or tax prompts shown in the official workflow.
- Review the checkout details carefully: who pays shipping, whether a label cost is deducted from proceeds, the delivery estimate, and your estimated proceeds. These terms can vary; do not assume one universal shipping charge or label arrangement.
- Review the listing preview and publish it.
Facebook may provide a prepaid label for eligible listings, but the feature is not available to every seller. Do not assume you can choose any carrier or enter any shipping rate; follow the label and delivery method shown in the order. Add shipping to an existing listing
- Open Marketplace and go to Selling, Your listings, or Manage listings, depending on the app version.
- Select the item and choose Edit listing.
- Look for a shipping, delivery, or shipping-and-checkout control. If it appears, enter the requested information, review checkout terms, and save the edit.
If the control is not available, the listing may be ineligible because of the item or category, your location or account, incomplete verification, or feature availability. Do not keep changing categories or describe the item inaccurately to force shipping on.
What to do when an item sells
- Confirm the order in Marketplace and read the shipping deadline and address displayed in the official order details.
- Open the order’s shipping instructions. If Facebook provides a prepaid label, use that label and the designated carrier or shipping provider. If no label appears, check the order details and any verification prompts before buying postage elsewhere.
- Pack the item securely. For fragile goods, protect the item against movement and impact; for valuable goods, consider whether the available tracking and coverage are adequate before offering shipping.
- Hand the parcel to the specified carrier, keep the acceptance receipt, and retain the tracking number.
- Mark the order as shipped in Marketplace and add or confirm tracking if prompted.
- Monitor tracking and keep buyer communication within Facebook. Save photos of the item and packed parcel, shipping instructions, order details, and proof of carrier acceptance.
If you cannot find a label, inspect the Marketplace selling dashboard, order details, notifications, and the email associated with Facebook. Check whether Facebook is asking for verification or whether the order status has changed. Never ship to an address supplied later in Messenger if it differs from the official order details.

If the shipping option is missing
Check the following in order. Meta does not promise shipping for every account, location, item, or listing, so there may be no setting you can turn on to restore it.
- App and device: Try the current Facebook app for iPhone or Android rather than relying on desktop controls.
- Marketplace access and location: Confirm that Marketplace is available to your account and that your location is supported.
- Item and category: Check the item against Meta’s current shipping policies and listing rules. Restricted, regulated, oversized, or otherwise unsuitable items may not be eligible. Do not miscategorize the item.
- Verification and payment setup: Check for requests to confirm your identity, physical address, tax information, or payout details. Make sure submitted names and addresses match the account and documents.
- Account status: Look in Marketplace selling, orders, account status, and notifications for restrictions or unresolved prompts.
- Shipping performance: Review any performance notice. Meta’s current guidance states that cancellation rate should be below 10%; falling short may temporarily remove shipping access. That standard is subject to Meta’s policy and market rules. Meta’s shipping-performance guidance
- Feature availability: If no shipping control appears after these checks, the feature may not be enabled for your account or listing. Use local pickup or another suitable selling channel rather than moving payment or shipping instructions outside the official order flow.
Choose shipping or local pickup

If the item needs freight, specialist handling, inventory automation, or a more predictable shipping and returns process, another selling channel may be a better fit. For an occasional sale, do not buy shipping software or equipment unless the volume justifies it.

Understand shipping costs, payouts, and U.S. taxes
There is no universal shipping amount or payout date established for every Marketplace seller and order. Before publishing, check the listing’s checkout screen to see whether shipping is charged to the buyer, whether you pay or a label cost is deducted from proceeds, and what happens if the package is larger or heavier than entered. Use the order’s own instructions rather than relying on a general estimate. Meta maintains separate guidance on Marketplace shipping costs.
For U.S. sales made with shipping, Meta says sellers may receive tax forms such as Forms 1099-K or 1099-MISC. Its tax documentation notes that gross payment reporting can include shipping, sales tax, and other fees. A reported gross amount is not automatically taxable profit: retain records of purchase cost or basis, fees, shipping costs, refunds, and other relevant expenses. Reduce shipping scams and disputes
- Keep payment, order details, and shipping instructions inside Facebook’s official workflow.
- Do not ship based on a screenshot of payment or a buyer’s claim that they paid by check, gift card, or overpayment.
- Do not follow links in messages claiming you must verify as a seller, release funds, or pay to unlock a label unless the request appears in Facebook’s official workflow.
- Do not change the shipping address solely because a buyer asks in Messenger.
- Use tracked shipping when the order requires it and retain the carrier’s acceptance receipt, tracking details, and package photos.
- If a buyer says a delivered package did not arrive, preserve the order record and all communications, then use Meta’s order-support or issue-resolution process. Tracking can help document delivery, but it does not guarantee payment or resolve every dispute.
Facebook checkout does not eliminate fraud or dispute risk. For high-value, fragile, or unusually large items, weigh the packaging, tracking, insurance, return, and damage exposure before accepting a shipped order.
