To get alerts for new Marketplace listings, search for the item in the Facebook app, apply filters, save the search, and turn on saved-search notifications. If no alert prompt appears, enable the Saved searches notification category in Marketplace settings. Check your phone’s notification permission too: Facebook settings alone cannot make a phone display push alerts.
What Marketplace alerts do—and don’t—cover
A saved-search alert is intended to notify you about listings matching a search you saved. It is different from bookmarking one listing, which saves that individual item, and from following a seller, which can notify you when that seller posts new listings. Messages and replies are separate notifications.
Meta lists Saved searches as a Marketplace notification category, but the controls and labels can vary by device, app version, region, or account. The steps below use the Facebook mobile app as the clearest route. Meta’s Marketplace notification instructions for the iPhone app describe the saved-search category and its settings path.
Set up a saved-search alert in the Facebook app
- Open Marketplace. In the Facebook app, tap Menu, then Marketplace. If it is not shown, tap See more. Menu labels can differ between iPhone, Android, and other app versions.
- Search for a specific item. Enter a focused phrase, such as Herman Miller Aeron, Nintendo Switch OLED, or Honda CR-V 2018. Separate searches—such as iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro—can catch naming differences without making one alert overly broad.
- Apply useful filters. Where available, set location or distance, price, category, condition, listing date, and delivery or pickup options. Filters differ by category and location; Meta describes Marketplace search, filtering, sorting, and location changes in its How Marketplace Works help page.
- Save the search. Look for a save, bookmark, or similar control on the search or results page and select it. If Facebook asks whether to turn on notifications, enable them. The control’s name and position are not consistent across every interface.
- Enable the Saved searches notification category if needed. In Marketplace, open the Marketplace profile or account icon, then go to Settings → Notifications → Saved searches and switch on the relevant notification. This is Meta’s documented mobile settings route; labels may vary.
- Check phone permissions. Allow Facebook notifications in your iOS or Android system settings. Also check whether Focus, Do Not Disturb, battery optimization, or background restrictions are suppressing them. The exact operating-system path depends on your phone.
Saving an individual listing is not the same as saving a recurring search. Meta documents saved Marketplace items separately in its instructions for saving items.

Manage Marketplace notifications on a computer
Meta documents this desktop route for switching Marketplace notification types on or off:
- Click your Facebook profile picture.
- Select Settings & privacy, then Settings.
- Choose Notifications in the left menu.
- Select Marketplace, then switch the notification type you want on or off.
This controls Marketplace notification categories; it does not establish that every account can create saved-search alerts on desktop. If you cannot find the saved-search control there, create or manage the alert in the Facebook mobile app and check Marketplace notification settings on desktop. Some users report a Marketplace alerts page, but its availability is not confirmed as a universal Meta-supported workflow and may depend on account or region.

Make alerts more useful
Balance search coverage with noise
A narrow search is easier to act on and tends to avoid unrelated results, but it can miss listings whose sellers use another name, abbreviation, or spelling. A broad search catches more possibilities but can generate more noise. For a sought-after item, use separate searches for model names, common abbreviations, or spelling variants rather than relying on one very broad term.
Review location and price filters
A tight distance or price range can exclude a suitable listing if the seller entered an inaccurate location or price, or if you are willing to travel farther. Price filters may also miss free listings, placeholder prices, bundles, or listings with incorrect amounts. For a rare or high-value item, consider a realistic filtered search alongside a broader one, then review results carefully.

Do not assume Marketplace supports formal exclusion or Boolean syntax such as negative keywords; Meta’s cited help material does not document a universal syntax for it. Use visible filters and separate searches instead.
Check new results manually when timing matters
For scarce or fast-moving items, use notifications as one signal, not as a substitute for checking Marketplace. Sort by newest where that option is available. There is no verified refresh schedule that guarantees you will see a listing before another buyer does.

Follow a seller for that person’s new listings
If you want updates from a particular seller rather than alerts for a keyword or item type, open one of the seller’s Marketplace listings, visit the seller’s profile, and select Follow if available. Meta says following a Marketplace seller can generate notifications when that person creates new listings. This is a seller-follow feature, not a saved-search alert; see Meta’s Marketplace follow instructions.

- The search does not appear among saved searches: Return to Marketplace and look for a saved-search, alerts, or similar area. The location varies; some reported routes include Marketplace → Buying → Your alerts or the Marketplace profile/account icon → Notifications. Treat these as interface-dependent alternatives, not guaranteed menu paths.
- The saved search exists, but no notifications arrive: Open Marketplace notification settings and check Saved searches. Then confirm Facebook has notification permission at the phone level and that Focus or Do Not Disturb is not silencing it.
- Alerts appear in Facebook but not on the phone: Check operating-system notification permission and background or battery restrictions. Also check Facebook’s in-app notification area; an in-app alert may not have been delivered as a push notification.
- The results are too broad or miss likely matches: Adjust the search phrase and filters. Try separate searches for alternate model names, abbreviations, or spellings, and review whether price or distance limits are excluding listings you would consider.
- An alert opens irrelevant results: Recheck the saved search and its filters. Facebook may interpret the phrase or listing details differently than expected; open the listing and judge whether it actually fits your criteria.
- You cannot edit or remove an old alert: Look for an edit, remove, trash, or unsave control on the saved search or in Marketplace’s alerts/notification settings. The exact deletion route is not consistently documented by Meta and may vary. Turning off Saved searches notifications stops that notification category, but may not remove individual saved searches.
- Controls are missing or the app behaves unexpectedly: Update or restart Facebook, then try the mobile app if desktop controls are absent. If the search remains time-sensitive, check Marketplace manually as well.
What to expect from alert timing
Marketplace alerts are best treated as best-effort notifications, not guaranteed real-time monitoring. Facebook does not promise that every matching listing will trigger an alert or specify a delivery time in the cited help documentation. Processing, ranking, search filters, notification delivery, and a listing’s availability can all affect what you see; a listing may be sold or removed before you open it.
