Barclays error 00006 is usually a non-specific mobile-app or authentication failure. Barclays has not published a public explanation that assigns one universal cause to the code. It can appear after an update, during sign-in or registration, when starting a transfer, or on Android phones whose software or security configuration the app cannot accept. Start with an outage check, an app and phone update, a restart and a different connection. If the error continues, use Barclays Online Banking or telephone support rather than repeatedly retrying an uncertain payment.
What Barclays error code 00006 means
The message normally reads: “Sorry, something’s gone wrong. Please try again later.” Public Barclays material does not define 00006 in detail, so it is best treated as a generic technical or authentication error—not proof of incorrect credentials, insufficient funds, fraud, a blocked account or a rejected payment.
Reports from Android users describe the code after app updates, at login, during re-registration and on rooted or customised devices. These are community reports, not an official Barclays diagnosis: GrapheneOS community reports. A separate third-party guide covers other Barclays error codes and recommends updating the app and contacting support if problems remain; it does not establish a specific meaning for 00006: DirectID Barclays error guidance.
If the message appeared while paying, the app error and the payment outcome are separate questions. Do not assume the payment failed until you check the account through another Barclays channel.

Before you troubleshoot
- Write down the exact code, message, time and action that triggered it.
- Take a screenshot if safe, covering balances, account numbers, card details and security information.
- Check whether a transfer, bill payment or payee change might already have been submitted.
- Never give a caller your passcode, PINsentry details, activation code or full banking credentials.
Fix Barclays error 00006 in order
1. Wait briefly and retry once
Close the app completely, wait several minutes, reopen it and try once. “Try again later” can reflect a temporary service or session problem. If a payment was involved, check pending and completed transactions first; do not submit it repeatedly while the result is uncertain.
2. Check whether Barclays is having an incident
Open Barclays Online Banking using the official Barclays website address. If both the app and website fail, a service-side incident is more likely than a damaged cache. Barclays has had historical incidents affecting login, mobile banking, Online Banking and Faster Payments, although that history does not prove a current outage: Parliamentary evidence of previous incidents.
Check Barclays’ own service or support channels first. Downdetector can show user-submitted reports, but it is not an official status source.
3. Update the Barclays app
Use only the official Apple App Store or Google Play listing. Search for Barclays and verify the developer before installing an update. Updating is a low-risk way to address an outdated app or broken app-to-app redirect. TrueLayer specifically recommends updating an old Barclays app when redirects fail and ensuring deep linking is enabled; that advice is for redirect problems, not a guaranteed 00006 cure: TrueLayer redirect guidance.

The official UK iPhone listing describes Barclays and Barclaycard functions and says registration requires a UK-registered mobile number and an eligible UK account or card. Requirements vary by customer and operating system: Barclays UK App Store listing.
4. Update and restart the phone
Install the latest available iOS update, or Android system and security updates, then restart the phone. Do not rely on an unverified minimum operating-system number; check the current store listing for your device.
5. Test the connection
Switch from Wi-Fi to mobile data, or from mobile data to a trusted Wi-Fi network. Temporarily disable a VPN, proxy, private DNS, network-level ad blocker or firewall that could interfere with authentication, then test once. Restore your privacy and security settings after the test; you should not need to weaken them permanently.
6. Check time, permissions and storage
- Turn on automatic date and time and automatic time zone.
- Allow Barclays mobile-data access and notifications.
- Make sure the phone has sufficient free storage.
These are sensible checks, not confirmed causes of 00006.

7. Clear the Android app cache
On many Android phones, go to Settings → Apps → Barclays → Storage → Clear cache. Labels differ by manufacturer and Android version. Do not start with Clear storage or Clear data; those options can remove the local session and force registration again. Cache clearing may help damaged temporary files but cannot fix a Barclays outage or an unsupported device.
8. Offload or reinstall only when you can reactivate
On iPhone, try Settings → General → iPhone Storage → Barclays → Offload App. If necessary, delete and reinstall it. Either action can log you out.
Before reinstalling, confirm that you can access your registered mobile number and any required verification method. Barclays’ listing says registration can involve a 16-digit card number and, for some customers, a PINsentry card reader; customers with an activation code can follow the in-app process: official app registration information. Reinstallation may require your passcode, card details, activation code or PINsentry.
If you use a rooted phone or custom ROM
Community reports associate 00006 with rooted Android phones, custom ROMs, altered or missing Google Play services and installations outside Google Play: GrapheneOS discussion and rooted-device discussion. Barclays may refuse to run correctly when its security checks consider a device modified or insecure, but this is only one possible explanation.

Do not install patched APKs, root-hiding tools or other methods designed to bypass banking-app checks. Safer options are to use a standard supported device with the official store app, access Online Banking, or ask Barclays for an approved alternative. An ordinary unmodified phone can still show 00006 because of an outage, app defect or registration problem.
If 00006 appeared during a transfer
- Do not submit the transfer again immediately.
- Check pending and completed transactions in Online Banking, telephone banking or another trusted Barclays channel.
- Confirm whether the recipient received the money.
- Keep the amount, payee, reference and exact error time for Barclays.
- Ask Barclays which alternative channel is appropriate if the payment is urgent.
A Financial Ombudsman decision records one case in which Barclays described an app-payment error as a technical glitch, advised waiting four hours before retrying and offered telephone banking. That was case-specific guidance, not a universal rule for every 00006 message: Financial Ombudsman decision.

For Premier customers, Barclays lists Premier Telephone Banking at 0800 924 7365 and describes it as available 24/7: Barclays Premier contact page. Do not assume that number applies to every Barclays or Barclaycard customer.
When to stop troubleshooting and contact Barclays
- 00006 remains after updating, restarting and testing another connection.
- The error follows you to another supported device or Online Banking also fails.
- The app repeatedly logs you out or says the device is rooted or insecure.
- A payment’s status is unclear, or a duplicate payment is possible.
- Your registered phone number has changed or you have lost the phone.
- You see suspicious transactions or suspect account takeover.
Tell Barclays the exact code, device model, operating-system version, app version, whether the phone is rooted or modified, the network used and the action that triggered the message. Ask them to check app registration, device compatibility and any active incident. If the problem causes financial loss or remains unresolved, request the formal complaints process.

Common questions
Is 00006 caused by wrong login details?
Not necessarily. The code is not publicly documented as a wrong-password message, so do not infer that from the wording alone.
Does clearing cache fix it?
It can remove damaged temporary files on Android, but it is not a guaranteed fix and will not resolve a server incident or unsupported device.
Will reinstalling delete my Barclays account?
No. It removes the app and local session, but you may need to complete registration again. Confirm access to your registered phone and verification details first.
Is “error code 6” the same as “00006”?
There is no reliable evidence that references to “error code 6” describe the same Barclays code. Treat them as unverified unless Barclays confirms the match.

Try the low-risk sequence once: check for an incident, update the app and phone, restart, test another connection and avoid modified-device complications. If 00006 persists—or appeared during a payment—verify the transaction through Online Banking or telephone support and ask Barclays to investigate rather than bypassing its security checks.
