You can set up a functional business Linktree in one sitting: create an account, choose a recognizable username, add your highest-value links, customize the page for your brand, test every destination, and place the resulting linktr.ee/username URL on your social profiles and marketing materials. The basic setup is available on Linktree’s Free plan, but paid features may be useful for branding, analytics, integrations, or digital-product selling.
What a business Linktree is for
Linktree creates a social landing page that puts several destinations behind one URL. A business might use it to direct visitors to its website, online store, booking system, menu, directions, contact form, reviews, newsletter, portfolio, or current promotion.

Its purpose is not to list every URL the business owns. It should help a visitor take the next most valuable action.
- Social profile: discovery and ongoing engagement
- Linktree: a short menu of priority actions
- Business website: detailed information, search visibility, trust content, and legal pages
- Email or CRM: an audience the business can follow up with directly
Use Linktree as a routing layer, not as a replacement for your website, domain, customer database, email list, booking system, or ecommerce account.

Prepare these items first
Gather the following before signing up:
- Your business name and a short username
- A logo or clear profile image
- A one-sentence description of what you offer
- Your primary call to action, such as “Book an appointment” or “Shop the new collection”
- The destination URLs for your website, booking system, store, forms, reviews, and social accounts
- Your brand colors and readable font preferences
- UTM-tagged URLs or another tracking plan, if you use analytics
- Relevant contact, privacy, refund, and booking information
Your username becomes part of your public URL. Prefer a recognizable name such as linktr.ee/brandname, linktr.ee/brandnamecity, or linktr.ee/brandnameofficial. Avoid temporary campaign names, excessive numbers, confusing abbreviations, or unsupported claims such as “#1.” Check the spelling carefully before publishing.
Use a business-owned email address or a company-managed password manager rather than an employee’s personal email. Keep recovery details, billing access, and multifactor authentication under business control.
How to create a business Linktree
1. Create the account
- Go to Linktree.
- Select Sign up.
- Enter and verify the business email address.
- Choose the business username.
- Select a plan.
- Follow the onboarding prompts to add initial links and choose a theme.
Linktree’s current account-creation instructions are available in its help center. Menu names can change between the web interface and mobile app, so look for the equivalent My Linktree, Links, and Design areas.

Your profile should answer three questions quickly: who are you, what do you offer, and what should the visitor do next? Linktree currently allows a bio of up to 160 characters, according to its bio guidance.
A useful formula is:
[Business] helps [audience] achieve [result] in [location or niche]. Start here: [primary action].
For example: “Austin-based tax preparation for freelancers and small businesses. Book a consultation or download our checklist.” Avoid vague copy such as “Welcome to our page.”

3. Add links and Link Apps
In the current admin interface:
- Open My Linktree.
- Go to Links.
- Select + Add.
- Paste a destination URL or browse available Link Apps.
- Enter a descriptive title.
- Add a thumbnail or other settings if useful.
- Confirm the link is enabled and live.
See Linktree’s instructions for creating a classic link. Classic links send visitors to another website or service. Link Apps can provide embedded experiences such as videos, podcasts, forms, or bookings; Linktree describes these options in its Link Apps documentation.

Use labels that explain the result of clicking:
- Shop best sellers
- Book a free consultation
- Get directions
- View today’s menu
- Read customer reviews
- Join the email list
- Download the pricing guide
Avoid generic labels such as “Website,” “Click here,” or “More info.” The button text should match the destination and the visitor’s intent.
4. Put the most valuable action first
A practical starting order is:
- Current priority offer or campaign
- Primary conversion action
- Core product, service, or booking destination
- Main website
- Email or SMS signup
- Reviews or other trust-building content
- Secondary social channels
Linktree recommends starting focused and aiming for roughly seven to 10 key items, although the right number depends on the business. A restaurant may need menu, reservations, ordering, directions, hours, reviews, and events. A consultant may need only booking, services, case studies, newsletter, and contact. Use headers or layouts if the page genuinely needs more links.
Keep one action visually and strategically dominant. Examples include Book an appointment, Shop the new collection, Reserve a table, Request a consultation, or Buy tickets.
5. Customize the design
Open the Design area from the current Links or My Linktree interface. Linktree’s design controls cover themes, text, colors, buttons, headers, and wallpapers; its design guidance also emphasizes readability.

- Add the business title and short bio.
- Choose a theme.
- Match the colors to your brand.
- Choose readable button and font colors.
- Check contrast and mobile readability.
- Preview and save the page.
Use high contrast, large button text, a clean background, and a logo that remains recognizable at a small size. Avoid busy images, excessive animation, low-contrast text, and a primary button that requires substantial scrolling.

Current plan restrictions matter. Linktree says Free users can select a background color, while Pro and above can upload an image or video background. Themes marked with a lightning-bolt icon require Pro or Premium, some profile-image and header layouts are paid, and video profile images are available on Starter, Pro, and Premium. Check the theme instructions and profile-image guidance before upgrading solely for a design option.

Add Linktree to Instagram and other profiles
For Instagram:
- Open the Instagram profile.
- Select Edit profile.
- Put the full Linktree address in the website field.
- Include
https://. - Save the change.
- Test the public profile from another account or a logged-out browser.
Linktree provides Instagram-specific instructions. You can also use the URL on TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, Facebook, X, email signatures, digital business cards, packaging, receipts, and event signage. Not every platform makes URLs clickable in every field, so verify the customer-facing profile rather than assuming the change worked.
Create and use a Linktree QR code
To create one in the current interface:
- Open Links under My Linktree.
- Select Share.
- Choose My Linktree QR code.
- Download the PNG or SVG.
- Scan it with a phone before printing.
See Linktree’s QR-code instructions. Suitable uses include menus, business cards, flyers, posters, packaging, event booths, merchandise, and email signatures.

For campaign measurement, use separately tracked destination URLs for different physical materials. Linktree says QR customization options such as changing colors, hiding its logo, or adding a business logo are available on Pro and Premium; it also says scan data can be viewed in Insights on Starter, Pro, and Premium.
Measure clicks without confusing them with sales
Monitor:
- Page views
- Clicks by link
- Click-through rate
- Traffic source and device type, where available
- Email or SMS signups
- Bookings, purchases, or leads on the destination site
- Conversion rate after the click
A Linktree click is an intermediate metric, not proof of a sale or qualified lead. Use UTM-tagged URLs, destination-site analytics, booking or ecommerce records, CRM source fields, unique landing pages, or campaign codes when attribution matters.
Linktree’s current paid-feature documentation lists UTM parameters, Google Analytics and Meta Pixel integrations, audience integrations, and data export among paid features. It lists analytics history as 90 days for Starter, 365 days for Pro, and the account lifetime for Premium. Confirm current availability before purchasing because plans and features can change.

Review performance monthly:
- Find the most-viewed links.
- Identify links with views but few clicks.
- Move the main business objective higher if necessary.
- Rewrite vague button titles.
- Remove expired campaigns.
- Compare Linktree clicks with actual business outcomes.

Use Free if you need a basic multi-link page and already have separate booking, checkout, email, and analytics tools.

Consider Premium if higher limits, lifetime analytics, data export, dynamic links, scheduling, or lower seller fees are worth more than the subscription cost.

The Free plan may be adequate. Also, more links are not necessarily a reason to pay: Linktree’s pricing page says Free supports unlimited basic links, while paid plans unlock other features. A paid plan will not provide a custom domain; Linktree currently says a custom domain cannot replace the linktr.ee URL.

Important limitations and alternatives
Custom-domain limitation
Linktree’s help center says it does not allow a custom domain to replace the Linktree URL and does not provide developer tools for domain forwarding. If you need brand.com/links or go.brand.com, consider a page on your own website, a domain redirect controlled by your website provider, another link-in-bio service, or a simple self-hosted landing page. Platform dependency
Keep your website, domain, customer data, email-list account, analytics accounts, and destination URLs under business control. Maintain a current backup list of every link so a pricing change, policy change, or account problem does not erase your operating information.
Analytics and privacy
If you collect email addresses, phone numbers, payments, or other customer information, review consent language, privacy disclosures, marketing rules, refund terms, and industry-specific obligations. Linktree’s integrations do not transfer legal responsibility for data collection away from the business.
Alternatives may be more suitable when needs differ. Lnk.Bio advertises custom-domain support as an add-on on certain paid plans; Bio Link positions itself more like a customizable mini-site. A page on your own website offers the greatest control, but requires more setup and maintenance. Choose based on ownership, domain control, analytics, embedded content, monetization, and total cost—not on a generic claim that one service is best.
Troubleshooting checklist
The page is not appearing on a social profile
- Confirm the complete URL was pasted.
- Include
https://where required. - Check that the platform saved the change.
- Confirm the profile is public.
- Open the URL while logged out.
- Check whether the Linktree username changed after publication.
A button is missing
Give it a title, confirm its visibility toggle is on, check that the URL is valid and begins with https://, save the page, and refresh it. Linktree also notes that destinations may be blocked as unsafe. Its link troubleshooting guidance covers these issues.
The page looks unprofessional
Check for too many links, weak hierarchy, inconsistent labels, poor contrast, a low-resolution logo, a busy background, an expired promotion, or broken social icons. Fix the hierarchy and copy before paying for a higher plan.
There are clicks but no sales or bookings
- Test the destination on a phone.
- Make sure the landing page matches the button’s promise.
- Check whether checkout or booking is working.
- Compare the offer with the visitor’s intent.
- Check whether tracking parameters cause redirects or errors.
- Move the primary action higher.
- Use a focused landing page instead of a generic homepage.
The QR code does not scan
Increase its size and contrast, remove glare, avoid curved surfaces, test the printed version, regenerate it if the URL changed, and keep the destination stable. Linktree recommends testing the QR code with a phone before printing.
Maintenance routine
Review the page weekly during an active campaign and at least monthly during ordinary operations. Update it immediately after a product launch, event, menu change, booking change, or promotion end. Remove expired offers, test important links, review clicks against actual results, and keep a backup list of destinations outside Linktree.
Final launch checklist
- Username is correct and recognizable.
- Business-owned email and recovery details are secured.
- Logo is clear on a mobile screen.
- Bio explains the business within the available character limit.
- One primary call to action is prominent.
- Link labels describe the destination.
- All links, forms, checkouts, downloads, and embeds work.
- Page is readable on mobile.
- Instagram and other public profiles are updated.
- QR code has been tested at print size.
- UTM tracking or another measurement method is configured where needed.
- Outdated campaigns have been removed.
Bottom line
For most small businesses, start with Linktree Free and build a focused page around one primary action. Upgrade only when a specific need—such as branding control, longer analytics history, integrations, scheduling, or digital-product economics—can justify the cost. Keep your own website and customer systems as the business’s permanent foundation, because Linktree is a convenient social landing page, not the company’s entire online presence.
