To track a product before a major online sale, save the exact model or variant you would buy, check its price history, and set an alert at a price you would actually pay. When the alert arrives, verify the live offer—including seller, stock, shipping, and coupon terms—before deciding. A discount label alone does not show whether the price is unusually low.
Start with the exact product you would buy
Save the listing for the specific model, size, color, storage capacity, or bundle you want. Variants can have different prices and histories, so an alert for a similar product may not tell you whether your intended purchase has dropped.
Check the price history before setting an alert
On supported Amazon product pages, open the price-history link beside the price, or ask Alexa a shopping question such as “Is this the lowest price recently?” Amazon describes 30-, 90-, and 365-day views. The history gives context for a sale price; it does not establish the lowest price across all retailers.
Amazon says price history is available in the U.S., UK, Canada, and India. The company says 365-day insights are rolling out in the U.S., UK, and India, so the available view can depend on your location and account. Check what your product page currently offers.
Set an alert at a price that works for you
Amazon notifications
Amazon documents item-specific target-price notifications and deal alerts for a stated need. Set the target before the sale begins, based on the price at which you would be comfortable buying—not an arbitrary percentage discount. See Amazon’s information about price alerts.
CamelCamelCamel watch
- Copy the Amazon product URL for the listing you want to track.
- Paste it into the search bar on CamelCamelCamel.
- Select the price type you want to track and start the watch.
- Wait for the service’s email if the price drops to your target.
The setup steps and email notification are described in CamelCamelCamel’s watch instructions. This is a way to track an Amazon listing, not evidence of a universal tracker covering every retailer.
When an alert arrives, check the actual offer
Open the live product page rather than relying on the notification alone. Confirm that it is still the exact variant you want, then check who is selling it, whether it is in stock, the delivery terms, and whether a coupon or checkout condition is required. Compare the price you can actually pay with the product’s history. A crossed-out price or percentage-off badge is not, by itself, proof that the offer is a good deal.
Amazon says it validates deal savings claims against a List Price or Typical Price. That gives another reference point, but you can still use the product’s price history and inspect the current offer before buying. Amazon also reports that more than 80% of deals during its most recent Prime Day were at Amazon’s lowest price of the year so far; the cited passage does not identify the Prime Day year, and this is Amazon’s own reported figure, not an independent measurement. Amazon reports that more than 50 million customers have checked price history since its 2024 launch and that the average customer checks it three times a month. An alert can reduce the need to check a listing repeatedly, while a history chart helps put a temporary price in context. Neither guarantees that the offer is the lowest available at every retailer or that the price and stock will remain unchanged until you complete checkout. Set a target in advance, then make the final decision using the live listing and the terms that apply to your purchase.
