You can send money directly from PayPal to an eligible Venmo user in the PayPal app. Search for the recipient by phone number, review the payment details and any displayed fee, then confirm. The option is not available in every region or for every recipient; if it does not appear, withdrawing PayPal funds to a linked bank account or eligible debit card is an alternative.
Send money from PayPal to Venmo directly
PayPal says users can send payments to Venmo users across platforms. Its U.S. product page describes transfers between eligible accounts as taking place in seconds, but availability depends on region and recipient eligibility. You do not need to rely on older advice that the two services cannot exchange payments: PayPal documents cross-platform sending, and Venmo confirms that its users and PayPal users can send payments to one another.

- Open the PayPal app and start a payment.
- Search for the recipient using the phone number associated with their PayPal or Venmo presence. PayPal’s guidance describes finding users by phone number; the person must be visible in search.
- Enter the amount, then choose from the payment type and funding methods offered in the app.
- Check the recipient, amount, funding method, and any fee shown in the transaction details.
- Confirm only when the details are correct. PayPal says sent payments generally cannot be canceled or reversed.

If you cannot find the Venmo recipient
- Check that you entered the complete phone number and that it is the number connected to the recipient’s account.
- Ask the recipient to check their search privacy or visibility settings so they can be found.
- Consider whether cross-platform sending is supported in the recipient’s region or whether the recipient is eligible for the feature.
If the recipient still does not appear, use the withdrawal route below or another payment method you both can access.

- Use your Visa Gift Card in the U.S. everywhere Visa debit cards are accepted, including online.
Fees and transfer time
Fees depend on the payment’s funding method and geography. PayPal’s U.S. guidance says domestic personal payments funded from a PayPal balance or linked bank account are free; other card funding may incur a fee. Cross-platform charges can vary, so use the fee shown in the app for your specific payment before confirming. International payments may also involve fees or currency conversion. PayPal describes eligible direct cross-platform transfers on its product page as taking place in seconds. That timing is not a guarantee for every region, account, or payment. If you withdraw funds instead, PayPal says standard bank transfers typically take 1–3 business days; instant transfers typically complete within minutes and are subject to a fee. Alternative: withdraw PayPal funds before using Venmo
If direct PayPal-to-Venmo sending is unavailable, transfer the money from PayPal to a linked bank account or eligible debit card. Once the funds are available through that financial account, use the account or card as permitted by Venmo and your bank. The withdrawal is a separate step from sending a Venmo payment, so the total time depends on the withdrawal method and subsequent availability of the funds.
