Yes, sometimes. Amazon has offered eligible U.S. Prime members a way to send certain physical gifts through the Amazon Shopping app without knowing the recipient’s street address. At checkout, the buyer selects an option such as “Let the recipient provide their address”, then enters the recipient’s email address or mobile number.
The recipient receives an Amazon email or text, accepts the gift, and provides a delivery address through Amazon. However, Amazon’s current public documentation does not confirm that this feature remains available for every account, product, marketplace, or app version in 2026. If the option is missing, an Amazon eGift Card is the more dependable address-free alternative.

Can you send an Amazon gift without knowing the recipient’s address?
Amazon announced this addressless physical-gifting feature on October 4, 2021, for U.S. Prime members using the Amazon Shopping mobile app. It was designed for situations where you know how to contact someone but do not know their current mailing address.

#1 Best Overall
- Amazon.com Gift Cards never expire and carry no fees.
- Multiple gift card designs and denominations to choose from.
- Redeemable towards millions of items store-wide at Amazon.com or certain affiliated websites.
- Available for immediate delivery. Gift cards sent by email can be scheduled up to a year in advance.
- No returns and no refunds on Gift Cards.
Availability is the important 2026 qualification. The option may depend on your Prime status, Amazon marketplace, app version, account, product, seller, and order contents. Amazon’s original announcement is the clearest first-party description, but it does not establish that every shopper can use the feature today. Look for the option at checkout before assuming it is available.

How to send a physical Amazon gift by email or phone
Use the Amazon Shopping app rather than starting with desktop checkout. The wording may change, so treat these labels as the names Amazon originally used.
- Open the Amazon Shopping app and sign in to your U.S. Amazon account.
- Choose an eligible physical product and add it to your cart.
- Begin checkout and select the gift option, described by Amazon as “Add a gift receipt for easy returns.”
- In the delivery-address section, look for “Let the recipient provide their address.”
- Select that option instead of entering a street address yourself.
- Enter the recipient’s email address or mobile phone number carefully.
- Review the product, gift message, recipient contact information, payment method, and order details.
- Place the order.
Amazon then sends the recipient an invitation by email or text. The recipient accepts the gift and enters a preferred delivery address through their Amazon account. Amazon ships the item after the recipient completes that process.
Verify the contact information before submitting the order. Amazon may not always allow you to correct or redirect an invitation after the order is placed.
What the recipient receives
The recipient receives an Amazon message containing the gift invitation:

- Available for immediate delivery. Gift cards sent by email can be scheduled up to a year in advance.
- No returns and no refunds on Gift Cards.
- An email if you entered an email address.
- A text message if you entered a mobile number.
The recipient generally needs to open the invitation, sign in to or use an Amazon account, confirm or add a delivery address, and accept the gift. The exact screens, deadlines, and available choices can change, so follow the instructions shown in the current Amazon flow.
Amazon’s original description also says the recipient may be able to exchange the selected item for an Amazon gift card of the same value. That is an Amazon-controlled exchange, not necessarily a cash refund to the sender or recipient. Do not assume every product qualifies or that the exchange remains available after the item has been accepted and delivered.

What if “Let the recipient provide their address” is missing?
The absence of the option does not necessarily mean you are doing something wrong. It may be unavailable for your account, region, app, product, seller, or order.
Try this sequence:
- Use the Amazon Shopping app instead of a desktop browser or mobile browser.
- Update the app, sign out, sign back in, and retry checkout.
- Test a different physical product, preferably one sold or fulfilled by Amazon.
- Remove other items and retry with only one product in the cart.
- Confirm that the account has an active Prime membership and is set to the intended Amazon marketplace.
- Check whether the item is a digital product, gift card, subscription, restricted product, or another category that may use a different gifting system.
- If the option still does not appear, use standard address-based delivery or send an Amazon eGift Card.
Amazon originally described the feature as U.S.-specific and mobile-app-based. Do not assume that the same process works on Amazon.ca, Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.in, or another marketplace without separate confirmation.
The dependable alternative: an Amazon eGift Card
An Amazon eGift Card is usually the simplest choice when you do not know the recipient’s address or the physical-gift option is unavailable. Amazon lists gift cards with email or text delivery, although denominations, designs, processing, and delivery options can change.

| Option | What the recipient gets | Address required? | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Addressless physical gift | A selected physical item | No, if available | May be limited by account, product, app, seller, or region |
| Amazon eGift Card | Amazon gift-card value | No | Less personal; the recipient chooses the item |
| Kindle eBook gift | An eligible eBook or redemption option | No | Only eligible titles and supported marketplaces qualify |
| Standard Amazon gift order | A physical item | Yes | The sender must know the delivery address |
An eGift Card is not a physical-gift invitation. It is delivered digitally and redeemed in the applicable Amazon marketplace. Amazon’s product listings advertise email or text delivery, but delivery can still be affected by incorrect contact information, account issues, or processing and fraud checks.
Can you send a Kindle book by email?
Kindle eBooks have a separate gifting process. For an eligible title, Amazon’s Kindle guidance allows the buyer to enter the recipient’s email address. The recipient receives the redemption information rather than a shipped product.
Eligibility depends on the title and marketplace. This is useful when the recipient reads on Kindle or the Kindle app, but it is not a substitute for sending a physical Amazon item.
See Amazon’s Kindle eBook gifting guidance.
If the recipient never receives the invitation
- Confirm that the email address or phone number was entered correctly.
- Ask the recipient to check spam, junk, promotions, and blocked-message folders.
- Have them search their inbox or messages for “Amazon” rather than relying only on a notification preview.
- Confirm that the phone number can receive SMS messages.
- Review the order and gift details in your Amazon account.
- Do not send sensitive claim information through an unverified channel.
- Contact Amazon through the official app or Amazon.com if the order was paid for but the invitation is missing.
Do not assume Amazon can always resend an invitation, change the recipient, or redirect it after purchase. Those options depend on the order’s current status and the controls Amazon provides.
Privacy and address handling
The purpose of this feature is to let the recipient provide a delivery address privately through their own Amazon account instead of telling the sender the address. That is the intended workflow, but do not promise that the sender can never see any address-related information. Amazon controls the exact information shown to each party.

A genuine gift invitation should not require the recipient to pay an extra fee by phone, send an Amazon gift-card claim code, disclose an Amazon password or one-time password, provide bank details, or move the transaction to an unrelated website.
Amazon warns that customers should not use gift-card claim codes to pay third parties. If a message seems suspicious, open the Amazon app or type Amazon.com into your browser directly instead of following an unexpected link.

Does this work without Amazon Prime?
The original Amazon announcement described the addressless physical-gift feature for U.S. Prime members using the mobile app. If you are not a Prime member, do not assume the option will appear; use an eGift Card if it is unavailable.

Can I send an addressless physical gift from a computer?
Amazon’s original description was for the mobile shopping app. Do not treat desktop checkout as equivalent unless the option appears in your current Amazon account.
Can I use any phone number?
Use the recipient’s correct mobile number that can receive text messages. Amazon determines whether the number and order are supported.
What if the recipient does not have an Amazon account?
The recipient may need to sign in to or create an Amazon account to accept the physical gift and provide a delivery address. The current invitation will show the required steps.
Can I send this type of gift internationally?
The cited launch was for the U.S. Amazon marketplace. Do not assume the feature works on another country’s Amazon site.
