Start by deciding what “wallpaper” means for your business: a downloadable phone or computer background, printable wall art, or physical wallcovering such as rolls and murals. Each has different delivery, listing, production, and customer-service needs. For digital designs, Etsy, Shopify, and Gumroad are documented options; Redbubble can put designs on physical products through third-party fulfillment. A branded store is another route, but you will need to bring customers to it.
Choose the wallpaper product before choosing a platform
A digital background is a file sale: buyers need to know what they are downloading, which devices it fits, and what the license permits. A physical wallcovering is a material and fulfillment sale: buyers need to assess pattern, color, and material, then understand production, quantity, and shipping. Printable wall art is a third product category; do not imply that a print file is a roll or mural.

- Digital wallpaper: package the designs in clearly named files and show previews sized for the intended devices.
- Physical wallcovering: make material and pattern choices clear, provide accurate scale examples, and offer samples where possible.
- Printable art: state the file dimensions, formats, and intended print use, separately from any phone or desktop versions.
Use original designs or work for which you have commercial rights. Etsy explicitly requires digital items listed in a shop to be made or designed by the seller, as described in its digital-listing guidance.

These options serve different business models; they are not a measured ranking of sales potential. A marketplace may offer a place to list products, but its presence alone does not guarantee buyers. Compare the costs and workload for your own country, price, payment method, and customer-acquisition source.

Set up digital wallpaper listings buyers can evaluate
Make the deliverable unambiguous
State the number of designs, file formats, pixel dimensions or aspect ratios, and whether the files are intended for phones, tablets, desktops, or more than one device type. Show realistic previews so a shopper can see how a design crops on the intended screen. Explain how the buyer accesses the files and what usage rights come with the purchase.

Plan around upload limits
Etsy’s instant-download listings allow up to five files at 20 MB each. Check the current listing rules and prepare the download package to fit them. Do not imply that buyers receive unlimited files or use an unapproved workaround. Etsy also allows made-to-order digital listings, which can suit a product that is prepared for the buyer after purchase rather than delivered as an instant file.
Price for costs, not just the download
Estimate what remains from each order after the applicable platform and payment charges, any production or delivery expense, and the time spent making and supporting the product. Fees differ by platform and, in some cases, by how the customer reached the listing. Recheck the current terms for your country and plan before treating a posted fee as your full cost of selling.

Plan physical wallpaper around samples and fulfillment
Let customers judge color, pattern, and material
Wallcovering is difficult to choose from a screen alone. Make samples available where practical, and show the pattern at a scale that helps customers understand its appearance on a wall. York Wallcoverings offers wallpaper samples and lists them as 8 x 10 inches; its page estimates USPS shipping at 5–9 days. Explain ordering and delivery before checkout
Identify the available materials and design choices, explain how customers select the product and quantity, and disclose production and shipping timelines. If the product is made to order or fulfilled by a third party, make that clear. A sample can help buyers assess a product, but it does not replace accurate product descriptions or clear order terms.

Use a simple profit check before you scale
A sale is not the same as profit. For each product and channel, estimate:

- file preparation, printing, manufacturing, packaging, or shipping costs, as relevant;
- any customer-acquisition cost you incur; and
- the time required for design, listing upkeep, and support.
Run that check separately for direct/profile sales and marketplace-discovery sales when the fee structure differs, as it does on Gumroad. For Redbubble, use the platform’s stated payment calculation rather than assuming that the displayed product price is your earnings. Keep enough margin for the costs that recur on every order, and do not base a business plan on guaranteed sales or “passive income.”
