You can sell coloring books online as printed books, digital downloads, or both. Start with an original concept, prepare and check the product, choose a marketplace and fulfillment method, set a price using real costs, then publish and promote without assuming sales are guaranteed. Amazon KDP and Etsy support different formats and have different rules, so choose the combination that fits the product you actually want to offer.
1. Define the book and its reader
Decide who the book is for and what makes its subject or style specific. A book for young children, a detailed botanical collection, and a stress-relief activity book are different products with different buyers and listing needs. Make the intended audience and use clear before you create pages.
Choose whether you will offer a printed book, downloadable pages, or both. The format affects production, delivery, customer support, and which platforms make sense. Start with artwork and designs you created or have the rights to use. Amazon KDP says previously published work may be submitted when the author owns the rights; see KDP’s content and rights guidance.
2. Create the product and check it before listing
Prepare original artwork and pages
Assemble the artwork, interior pages, and cover into the files required by your chosen channel. Do not assume that a printable PDF, a Kindle eBook, and a print-ready paperback use the same file or provide the same experience. The platform documentation cited here does not establish coloring-book-specific trim sizes, bleed settings, image resolution, or printing costs, so check the current specifications for your exact format before exporting.

Check the customer experience
For a physical book, review a printed sample if available: check that the pages and cover look as intended and that the product description accurately explains what the buyer receives. For a download, check that the files open and are easy to identify and use. On Etsy, digital items must be made or designed by the seller. 3. Choose both a sales channel and a fulfillment model
A marketplace answers where customers can find and buy the book; a fulfillment model answers how they receive it. Compare them separately rather than treating a platform as the whole business plan.

Choose how printed copies are fulfilled
With print-on-demand, a physical copy is produced and shipped when an order arrives. With seller-fulfilled inventory, you arrange printing or buy stock, then store, pack, and dispatch each order and handle the related customer-service work. Amazon describes these general book-selling approaches in its online book-selling guidance. Compare the labor and costs against the control you want over stock, packaging, and delivery.
Check exclusivity before enrolling
KDP Select exclusivity applies to eBooks enrolled in the program. KDP says authors who own their rights may otherwise sell their books on other platforms. If you plan to offer the same digital content elsewhere, read the current KDP terms before enrolling; do not treat a print-book listing as equivalent to an enrolled eBook.
4. Set a price from actual costs and platform terms
A list price is revenue before costs, not profit. For a printed copy, account for printing, marketplace terms, shipping or fulfillment, and any promotion costs. For a download, account for platform fees and the time or support involved. Your net proceeds depend on the book’s specifications, selling marketplace, price, printing or fulfillment costs, and seller location.
KDP lets authors set a list price within its limits. Its eBook royalty plans are 35% and 70%, with eligibility and territory conditions; those percentages are not a universal margin for every format or sale. Check KDP’s royalty terms for the relevant marketplace and format. Make the listing accurate
Use a clear title and description that state the audience, subject, format, and what the customer receives. Add appropriate images that represent the actual book or pages. Make fulfillment and delivery expectations clear, especially if you use a production partner or ship inventory yourself.
Choose a manageable promotion routine
Possible methods include social media, promotions, email, a blog or video, and platform advertising. Amazon’s seller guidance describes these as marketing options, not as guaranteed routes to sales; see its book-selling guide. Choose a small number you can sustain, and review actual listing performance before spending more on promotion.
Coordinate multiple channels
If you sell physical inventory in more than one place, keep availability and stock information coordinated so you do not accept orders you cannot fulfill. Revisit platform rules, fees, and listing details as they change. No sales forecast or marketing tactic established here can promise that a new coloring book will sell.
