Secure your Revolut account in three layers: use a passkey for sign-in, enable biometrics for app access and payment authorization, and review security controls for each physical card. These settings do different jobs, and some instructions and features vary by country, device, and app version. The steps below follow Revolut’s support guidance; check the labels and options shown in your own app.
1. Set up a passkey for sign-in
A passkey is a sign-in credential, not the same thing as Face ID or a fingerprint. Revolut says passkeys are generated locally and are unique to the device or credential store. Depending on your setup, they may be stored with a browser, an Apple, Google, or Microsoft device and its associated cloud service, or a password manager. The device may ask you to unlock the credential with a biometric, PIN, or password.
Revolut’s Switzerland support article explains passkey storage and recovery. Its instructions may not reflect availability or wording in every market.
- Follow the passkey prompt in Revolut when signing in or setting up the feature. Complete the device or credential-store confirmation presented on screen.
- To review or revoke a passkey, open Revolut’s Account area and select Passkeys, as described in Revolut’s Switzerland guidance. Review the live app labels if they differ.
- If you lose access to a passkey, Revolut documents signing in with your passcode and two-factor authentication (2FA). Access to or recovery of the passkey itself depends on the relevant Apple, Google, or Microsoft cloud account. This is Revolut’s documented fallback, not a guarantee that every locked-out situation can be resolved this way.

2. Enable biometrics for app access and payments
Biometrics can help unlock the app and authorize payments; they do not replace a passkey’s role as a sign-in credential. Revolut’s reviewed biometric setup instructions are from its US support page. They identify Face ID for iOS and fingerprint biometrics for app access and payment authorization. Do not assume Android has the same menu or options.
- In the app, open Profile icon → Security → Sign-in & Passcode.
- Choose the authentication methods available to you and follow the in-app setup prompts.
- If biometric sign-in does not work, check that Revolut has permission to use biometrics in your device settings and update the app. Revolut says a new device may require several logins before the activation prompt appears.

3. Review security settings for each physical card
Revolut’s UK card-security instructions apply to physical cards, not virtual cards. Settings are attached to the selected card, so review each physical card you use. The documented route is Home → cards icon → choose card → Settings → Security. The options shown may vary; use the controls available for the specific card in your app.
| Control | What Revolut says it does | Practical effect to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Lock online transactions | Blocks online card transactions. | Revolut says in-person payments and Apple Pay and Google Pay payments remain unaffected. |
| Location-based security | Uses phone GPS for location checks. | Revolut’s safety page says it compares the device’s last known location with the card terminal’s location; a transaction may be declined when locations do not match. |
| Disable magnetic-stripe payments | Turns off swipe payments using the magnetic stripe. | Transactions requiring a magnetic-stripe swipe may not work. |
| Block ATM withdrawals | Disables cash withdrawals from ATMs using the card. | You will not be able to use that card for ATM withdrawals while the control is on. |
| Switch off contactless | Disables contactless payments for the physical card. | Contactless payments with that card will not work while disabled. |
| Reset the automatic contactless payment limit | Resets the automatic contactless payment limit. | Use the in-app setting to review or reset the limit; Revolut’s UK page does not specify a universal limit amount. |

4. Understand what these layers do—and do not do
A passkey helps control account sign-in; biometrics provide a device-level way to access the app or authorize payments; card controls limit selected uses of an individual physical card. They are configurable safeguards, not a promise that scams or unauthorized activity cannot happen.
Revolut’s UK safety page also describes physical-card activation and PIN security, disposable cards, biometric linkage, suspicious-activity warnings, and a Security hub with customizable features. It says a physical card must be activated in the app and that the PIN is available there. The same page describes location checks that may decline transactions when device and terminal locations do not match. These are Revolut’s descriptions of its own product features, not an independent security assessment.
