Secure an OKX exchange account with layered controls: use a passkey to authenticate, enable authenticator-app two-factor authentication (2FA), and restrict withdrawals to saved addresses. Add OKX’s 24-hour new-address lock if it is available in your account. These controls address different risks; none guarantees that funds cannot be lost.
What each OKX security control does
| Control | Primary role |
|---|---|
| Passkey | Authenticates account access using a FIDO credential, which may be verified with a device biometric or PIN, another device, or a compatible USB security key. |
| Authenticator-app 2FA | Adds an extra verification step beyond the password. |
| Withdrawal allowlist | Restricts withdrawals to recipients saved in the withdrawal address book. |
| New-address lock | Delays withdrawals to newly added recipients for 24 hours. |
These controls work in different parts of the account. A passkey or 2FA helps verify access; an allowlist constrains where withdrawals can go. A FIDO2 USB key is an optional way to use a passkey, not a substitute for withdrawal controls. OKX describes these features in its passkey guidance and withdrawal allowlist instructions.
Set up a passkey
OKX describes passkeys as FIDO authentication used as a two-factor method. Setup options and labels can vary by app version, platform, region, and account eligibility; use the options shown in your logged-in account.
On the web
- Confirm your device and browser meet OKX’s listed requirements: Windows 10 or macOS Ventura, or a FIDO2-compatible USB security key; and Chrome 109 or later, Safari 16 or later, or Edge 109 or later.
- Open Profile > Security > Passkeys.
- Follow the prompts to create and verify the passkey using an available method, such as your device, another device, or a compatible security key.
These are the requirements and path in OKX’s web passkey instructions.

In the app
- Use a device running iOS 16.0 or later, Android 14.0 or later, or a compatible external FIDO2 USB security key.
- Open Menu > Account settings > Security > Passkeys.
- Complete the prompts. Depending on your device and platform, you may use biometrics or a device PIN, another phone or tablet, or an external key.
OKX notes that Android passkeys depend on Google services. See its app passkey instructions for current options.
Changing or removing a passkey
OKX says at least one passkey must remain linked after the feature is activated. Removing a passkey without verifying the removal with another passkey may trigger a 24-hour restriction on withdrawals and P2P trading. Before changing phones or deleting an old credential, establish a working replacement and make sure you can complete the account’s security checks.

Enable authenticator-app 2FA and strengthen account access
OKX’s account-security guidance recommends authenticator-app 2FA as an extra check beyond your password. It also recommends using a strong, unique password, setting an anti-phishing code so you can check whether emails are legitimate, and managing connected devices. These measures layer protection around account access; they do not check whether a withdrawal destination is correct.
Use the security options currently shown in your OKX account to bind an authenticator app and verify that it works. Store recovery information securely and do not share verification codes with anyone. The exact setup labels may differ across app versions and regions.

Restrict withdrawals with an allowlist
With the withdrawal allowlist enabled, OKX says withdrawals can go only to recipients saved in the withdrawal address book. Add and check the addresses you legitimately use before turning on the restriction, including the address and network for each destination.
- In the app, open Assets > Withdraw > Withdraw crypto.
- Open Address book, then Address settings.
- Enable the withdrawal allowlist and, if offered, the new-address withdrawal lock.
- Review the saved recipients and verify each address and network before relying on the restriction.
OKX’s app instructions note that recipient verification is separate from allowlisting: a saved address may still require additional verification. Disabling the allowlist requires security verification; afterward, the app permits entering a new recipient manually during withdrawal.

Use the new-address lock
When enabled, the lock prevents withdrawals to a newly added recipient for 24 hours. The delay gives you time to notice an unauthorized addition and respond, but it does not replace checking account activity or the destination details.
Manage addresses on the web
OKX’s web allowlist instructions describe the same core restriction and 24-hour lock. The web address book allows adding up to 50 addresses per batch; OKX does not state a total cap in those instructions.

Review security after a concern or account change
If you suspect compromise, or are reviewing account security after a device change, OKX’s security-check guidance advises reviewing authenticator binding, passkeys, the withdrawal whitelist, API permissions, and active devices. Remove credentials or devices you do not recognize and reset a password if it may have been compromised. If you cannot access the account or complete a security check, follow the recovery options presented by OKX rather than disabling controls you cannot verify.
Important availability limits
OKX’s help pages were updated in August and September 2026, but feature labels, navigation, compatibility, and availability may differ by platform, app version, region, and account eligibility. Follow the controls actually available in your account. A FIDO2-compatible USB security key is an optional passkey method; OKX’s guidance does not establish that any particular model works with every device.
