SBI says recovery uses your profile password and the hint question and answer created during registration. If you also forgot those, SBI directs you to visit the nearest branch. A UPI PIN or debit-card PIN is a different credential and must be reset separately.
First identify which credential you forgot
YONO can involve several credentials. Choosing the wrong recovery route is the most common reason a reset appears not to work.

Reset the SBI login password through OnlineSBI
SBI’s published instructions point customers to OnlineSBI rather than documenting one permanent, version-specific YONO menu path. Use this route for an Internet Banking login-password problem:

- Type https://www.onlinesbi.sbi/ yourself, or open SBI’s official Internet Banking page at sbi.co.in/web/personal-banking/digital/internet-banking.
- Select the personal-banking Login option.
- Choose Forgot Login Password or Trouble Logging In. The wording can vary as SBI updates its site.
- Enter the requested User ID and verification information.
- When prompted, provide the profile password and the hint question and answer created during registration.
- Create a new password that is 8–20 characters long and combines alphabetic, numeric and special characters, as required by SBI.
- Return to YONO and enter the new credential if the app is using your Internet Banking login. Do not rely on an old password saved by your browser or password manager.
SBI also maintains a recovery page at retail.onlinesbi.sbi/retail/forgotloginpwd.htm. A deep link can show a session-expired message when opened directly, so beginning at the OnlineSBI homepage is more reliable. If you forgot the profile password or hint answer
SBI’s stated fallback is a visit to the nearest SBI branch. Do not give your credentials to a third-party “recovery” service.
Reset a forgotten UPI PIN inside YONO
Use this process only when payments fail because you forgot the UPI PIN; it does not change your YONO or Internet Banking password.

- Open YONO and go to the UPI area or UPI profile.
- Select the linked bank account.
- Choose Reset UPI PIN.
- Complete the verification using eligible debit-card details or Aadhaar linked to the registered mobile number, as offered by SBI.

Check the credential and saved data
- Close and reopen YONO, then type the new password manually once.
- Check the User ID character by character and remove an old autofill entry.
- Avoid repeated guesses, which can trigger a lock.
Check the phone’s security requirement
SBI says a current YONO version may not permit login or registration on a handset without a device lock such as a passcode, pattern or biometric verification. Enable one in the phone’s settings, then retry. See SBI’s YONO registration guidance.
Check the app and registered mobile number
- Install updates only from the official Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
- Recovery can fail when the SIM is not the number registered with SBI, the number was recently changed, or SMS service is unavailable. Contact SBI or visit a branch to update or verify the registered number; do not assume recovery works without it.
If the User ID is locked
OnlineSBI lists a Lock & Unlock User option. Start from the official OnlineSBI homepage and use its displayed customer-care or recovery controls.

Submit a persistent YONO complaint
If the password is correct but the app continues to reject it, SBI’s customer-request system at crcf.bank.sbi includes categories such as YONO – Login, Forgot User Name and Username and Password Mismatch Issue.

Verify current numbers and routing on SBI’s official contact-centre page, especially when calling from overseas. SBI provides country-specific international numbers there.

Protect yourself from password-reset scams
SBI says it will not ask for confidential information through unsolicited calls, SMS or email. Never provide an OTP, password, PIN, CVV, card number or User ID to a caller, and never install a remote-access or screen-sharing app for “SBI support.” Do not open reset links sent through unsolicited WhatsApp messages, email or social media; type the SBI address yourself or use the official app.
For suspicious messages, SBI’s safety material lists [email protected]. Suspected cyber fraud can also be reported through India’s cybercrime helpline 1930. Further safety guidance is in SBI’s customer security advisory.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I reset the SBI login password without visiting a branch?
Usually, yes: use OnlineSBI’s Forgot Login Password or Trouble Logging In facility with your profile password and hint question and answer. SBI directs you to the nearest branch if either of those recovery details is also forgotten.

Can I reset it without my registered mobile number?
Do not assume so. OTP or mobile verification may fail when the registered number is inactive, changed or unavailable. Contact SBI or visit a branch to verify or update the number.
Is the UPI PIN the same as the YONO password?
No. Reset a UPI PIN from YONO’s UPI profile and account screen; it does not change the Internet Banking or YONO login credential.
What if I forgot my Internet Banking User ID?
This is separate from password recovery. SBI’s Internet Banking FAQ directs forgotten-username cases to its branch or re-registration process.
Why does YONO reject my new password?
Check the User ID, manually enter the new password, remove old autofill data, confirm the phone has a passcode, pattern or biometric lock, and ensure the app is current. Persistent mismatch issues can be submitted through SBI’s customer-request system.

Can SBI staff ask for my OTP or password?
No. Do not disclose OTPs, passwords, PINs, CVVs, card details or User IDs to unsolicited callers or messages.
What should overseas customers do?
Use the international numbers and country-specific contacts shown on SBI’s current contact-centre page rather than assuming Indian toll-free numbers will work.
