How to Research HDFC Bank, Infosys, Yes Bank, Hindustan Zinc and RVNL Before Investing

Use company reports and exchange filings to examine each business on the measures that matter: bank funding and asset quality, IT growth and cash, metals output and costs, and project execution and working capital.

Research these five companies with one consistent process, but not one undifferentiated checklist. Start with each issuer’s latest annual report and quarterly results, then use its investor presentation and earnings-call transcript to understand management’s explanation. Verify those explanations against reported results, exchange filings and cash flows. The businesses differ too much for a single growth or valuation measure to establish whether any one is attractive.

Start with primary records, not a stock summary

  1. Find the latest annual report and quarterly results. Use the company’s official investor-relations materials and exchange filings. Check the reporting period and whether figures are standalone or consolidated before comparing them.
  2. Read the presentation and earnings-call transcript alongside the results. Treat forecasts, explanations and targets as management statements. Check whether subsequent reported numbers support them.
  3. Review ownership, governance and material disclosures. Look at shareholding patterns, board and auditor disclosures, related-party information, regulatory developments and material announcements. An exchange filing is especially useful for checking what was formally disclosed and when.
  4. Record the evidence consistently. For each period, note the reported figure, its definition, the company’s explanation, and the next disclosure that could confirm or weaken that explanation. Keep one-off adjustments separate from reported results.

The available official starting points differ by company. HDFC Bank’s investor-relations portal listed Q1FY27 materials and its Integrated Annual Report 2025-26 when accessed. Infosys provides multi-year financial data, quarterly and annual reports, subsidiary information, statutory filings and a guidance-versus-actual view. RVNL’s NSE integrated filing dated 29 April 2026 lists results, shareholding, annual reports, analyst materials, credit ratings and governance disclosures. YES BANK’s FY2024-25 annual report directs readers to its investor-relations section and NSE and BSE filings for financial information. An official Hindustan Zinc Integrated Annual Report for FY2025-26 is available. For all five, check for newer filings before relying on a dated report or disclosure.

Use the questions that fit each business

Company What to test in its latest disclosures Evidence starting point and qualification
HDFC Bank Compare loan and deposit growth, funding mix, margins, asset quality, provisions, capital and liquidity. Check how any integration-related comparisons affect interpretation of growth and results. The official investor-relations portal lists results, key parameters, presentations, transcripts, annual reports, ownership and regulatory disclosures. No current numerical findings for the bank are established here.
Infosys Separate reported from constant-currency growth; assess margin direction, large-deal conversion into revenue, client concentration, workforce or utilization economics, cash generation and capital returns. The FY2025-26 report provides company-reported historical results and a guidance-versus-actual view is available on its financials page. These figures are not forecasts.
YES BANK Examine asset quality, provisions, funding and deposit mix, capital, liquidity and profitability across multiple reporting periods. Check the latest results rather than assuming an older annual report describes the current risk profile. The located annual report covers FY2024-25 and points to the bank’s investor-relations section and NSE and BSE filings. Current metrics and risk profile are not established here.
Hindustan Zinc Track production and realized prices alongside costs; examine reserves, capital spending, commodity exposure, and environmental and regulatory risks. Distinguish production growth from price-driven revenue changes. An official FY2025-26 Integrated Annual Report was located, but detailed company figures are not established here. Check the full report and current quarterly results.
RVNL Assess the quality and timing of the order book, project execution, conversion of awards into revenue and cash, working capital, counterparty exposure, ownership and governance. RVNL’s NSE filing dated 29 April 2026 is a dated starting point, not confirmation of current conditions. It reported eight board members at 31 March 2026: five whole-time directors, two government nominees and one independent director; it said appointments of six independent directors were awaited from the Ministry of Railways. Check subsequent filings for changes.

Put Infosys’s reported figures in context

Infosys reported FY2026 revenue of ₹1,78,650 crore, up 9.6% year on year; free cash flow of ₹33,097 crore, equal to 112.3% of net profit; large-deal total contract value of US$14.9 billion, with 55% net new; basic EPS of ₹71.58; adjusted operating margin of 21.0%; cash and investments of ₹43,075 crore; dividend per share of ₹48.0; and ROE of 31.6% — all company-reported figures for FY2026. The report defines free cash flow as operating cash flow less capital expenditure under its consolidated IFRS cash-flow statement. Its adjusted operating margin excludes the effect of specified ₹1,289 crore labour-code-related provisions; do not treat that adjusted margin as the unadjusted reported margin.

Infosys also states that its capital-allocation policy expects to return approximately 85% of free cash flow cumulatively over five years, subject to applicable laws and approvals. That is a stated policy, not a guaranteed payout. When assessing it, compare the policy with actual distributions and cash generation in the reports rather than treating a policy statement as a future return.

Compare quality first, then valuation

A useful comparison sheet has a shared top level, followed by the measures appropriate to each issuer:

  • Growth and durability: identify whether growth comes from volume, pricing, acquisitions, constant-currency performance or project awards, as applicable. Ask whether the source appears repeatable in later periods.
  • Profitability and cash: compare margins, return measures and operating cash conversion over multiple periods. Note the accounting definition and keep adjusted figures and one-offs distinct.
  • Funding and obligations: for banks, focus on funding quality, asset quality, provisions, capital and liquidity. For other businesses, assess debt, cash, working capital and obligations.
  • Execution: test whether plans, large deals, mine plans or project awards convert into delivered output and cash. A stated pipeline or order book alone does not establish execution quality.
  • Ownership and governance: review ownership, board composition, related parties, auditor observations, regulatory actions and material exchange disclosures, using the dates attached to each filing.
  • Downside cases: write down what company-specific event would weaken the investment case and what new disclosure would change your view. Separate a disclosed risk from your own inference about its likelihood or impact.

Only after this work should you assess valuation. Use one share-price date and a clearly named valuation denominator, compare each company with relevant peers and its own history, and ask what growth and profitability the price appears to require. Do not use one peer group for all five companies. No current valuation calculation or conclusion is established here, and comparable current data are not established for four of the five companies.

Keep the conclusion conditional

Annual reports and presentations are primary sources for what an issuer reports and says; they are not independent confirmation of management forecasts or promotional claims. A strong past result, cash balance, dividend, large order book or share-price return does not guarantee future performance. Before investing, decide which evidence would invalidate your thesis, verify that the latest filings have not changed the picture, and avoid treating analysis of these businesses as a buy-or-sell recommendation.
