Research Broadcom by separating its semiconductor and infrastructure-software businesses, checking the latest reported results against management’s outlook, and examining customer concentration, cash generation, debt and the company’s own risk disclosures. Only after testing those business drivers should you assess AVGO’s valuation using a dated share price and explicit assumptions; the available company results alone do not establish whether the stock is attractive.
Start with the latest filing and results release
As of October 7, 2026, Broadcom’s investor center identifies its September 2, 2026 release for Q3 fiscal 2026 as the latest reported quarter. The quarter ended August 2, 2026. Read that release alongside the corresponding Form 10-Q, then use the fiscal 2025 Form 10-K for the full-year business description, segment discussion and risk factors. Check each document’s reporting period: a fiscal quarter’s end date, not its release date, tells you which period the results cover.
- Establish the reporting period. Note the quarter-end date and fiscal year, and distinguish reported results from any outlook for a future quarter.
- Read the release and 10-Q together. The release is a quick view of results and guidance; the filing provides fuller financial statements, explanations and disclosures. Use the newest filing to update balance-sheet and risk information rather than treating older annual figures as current.
- Use the 10-K to understand the business. Read the business and segment sections, then review the financial statements, debt disclosures, customer-concentration disclosures and risk factors.
- Keep accounting measures separate. When comparing earnings, cash flow or margins, label GAAP and non-GAAP measures and use like-for-like periods and definitions. Review the company’s reconciliation of non-GAAP figures to GAAP.
Understand what Broadcom sells and how the mix is changing
Broadcom reports two segments. Semiconductor solutions includes semiconductor-based products and intellectual-property licensing. Its products serve AI and enterprise data centers, networking, wireless, broadband, storage, telecom and other markets. The 2025 Form 10-K describes AI-related offerings including custom accelerators (XPUs), Ethernet switching and routing silicon, network-interface controllers, physical-layer devices, optical components and systems based on its XPUs.
Infrastructure software includes private-cloud, mainframe, cybersecurity and enterprise software, as well as Fibre Channel storage networking. VMware-related private-cloud products are an important part of the software portfolio.
#1 Best Overall
| Segment | FY2025 revenue | Share of FY2025 revenue | FY2024 revenue | Share of FY2024 revenue |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Semiconductor solutions | $36.858 billion | 58% | $30.096 billion | 58% |
| Infrastructure software | $27.029 billion | 42% | $21.478 billion | 42% |
| Total | $63.887 billion | 100% | $51.574 billion | 100% |
These are Broadcom-reported fiscal-year revenues in its 2025 Form 10-K. The company attributed semiconductor growth mainly to networking demand, especially custom AI accelerators and AI networking. It attributed software growth mainly to VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) demand—including license revenue on contracts customers could not terminate—and a transition to subscription licensing. Those are management’s explanations of past performance, not proof that the same drivers will continue.
Check the newest reported quarter against the full-year picture
Q3 FY2026 revenue was $29.591 billion, up 86% year over year, according to Broadcom’s September 2, 2026 results release. The segment split shows how much of that quarter came from each business:
| Q3 FY2026 segment | Revenue | Share of quarterly revenue | Year-over-year change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Semiconductor solutions | $20.839 billion | 70% | +127% |
| Infrastructure software | $8.752 billion | 30% | +29% |
| Total | $29.591 billion | 100% | +86% |
Broadcom also reported Q3 AI semiconductor revenue of $16.7 billion, up 221% year over year and 54% quarter over quarter. CEO Hock Tan described demand for custom AI accelerators and networking as “very strong.” Treat this as company-reported revenue and management commentary; it does not, by itself, establish how durable demand will be or how much profit the sales will generate.
For Q3, Broadcom reported cash from operations of $14.197 billion, capital expenditures of about $0.5 billion and free cash flow of $13.665 billion. GAAP diluted EPS was $2.68; non-GAAP diluted EPS was $3.32. Keep the two EPS figures distinct rather than comparing one with another period’s figure on a different accounting basis. In the 10-Q, examine the cash-flow statement and the factors that affect cash conversion, including working capital and stock-based compensation.

Broadcom’s Q3 release gave Q4 FY2026 revenue guidance of approximately $34.8 billion and non-GAAP operating income guidance of approximately 66% of projected revenue. These are estimates, not results. The release says guidance reflects conditions at the release date, actual results may vary materially, and projected non-GAAP measures were not readily reconcilable to GAAP without unreasonable effort. Compare later reported results with the guidance, but do not treat the estimate as a guarantee.
Compare segment economics, not revenue alone
Revenue growth does not show whether growth is translating into operating profit or whether the mix is changing the company’s economics. In the annual filing and latest 10-Q, compare each segment’s revenue, operating income and operating margin across periods. Use the same period lengths and definitions, and note whether a change comes from volume, pricing, product mix or other explanations Broadcom provides.
Rank #3
- Semiconductor solutions: assess how much reported growth is associated with AI accelerators and networking, and how the business is exposed to semiconductor cycles, customer product schedules and manufacturing capacity.
- Infrastructure software: track reported revenue and operating income alongside VCF and subscription-related commentary. Look for evidence in financial results rather than treating customer interest or survey sentiment as booked revenue.
- Consolidated margins: Broadcom says semiconductor gross margin has typically been lower than infrastructure-software gross margin, so changes in segment mix can affect consolidated gross margin. Verify the actual period’s figures in the filing rather than assuming a particular mix will have a particular result.
Investigate customer concentration and demand timing
Broadcom’s fiscal 2025 Form 10-K says one semiconductor-solutions customer that was a distributor accounted for 32% of fiscal 2025 revenue. It also says sales to the top five end customers, in aggregate and through all channels, were approximately 40% of revenue in both fiscal 2025 and fiscal 2024. The distributor figure and end-customer figure describe different measures; do not add them together or treat them as the same customer group.
The filing warns that losing a top-five end customer, or experiencing a material reduction in demand from one, could materially harm Broadcom’s business, results and financial condition. Check the newest filing for updated concentration disclosures and consider whether orders are tied to a small number of end customers, product programs or launch schedules. A strong quarter can reflect the timing of large customer ramps as well as underlying demand.

Update debt, cash and financing needs from the latest filing
The fiscal 2025 Form 10-K reported $67.120 billion of debt principal outstanding as of November 2, 2025, compared with $69.847 billion a year earlier. These are historical balances, not a current debt figure. Use the latest Form 10-Q to check debt principal, cash, maturities, interest expense and any financing changes before forming a view about the balance sheet.

Look beyond the headline principal balance. Review the maturity schedule and interest costs, then consider cash generation alongside debt service and other uses of cash. Also examine stock-based compensation and acquisition-related amortization when reconciling reported GAAP results with non-GAAP measures; those items can make the two presentations materially different.

Broadcom’s filings identify risks; the list is the issuer’s disclosure, not a ranking of likelihood. Use it to frame what to monitor in later results:
- Semiconductor cyclicality and customer timing: demand can change with end markets, product launches and customer schedules.
- Manufacturing and supply: Broadcom relies on outsourced manufacturing and a limited supplier base, exposing it to capacity, availability and global-condition risks.
- Competition and pricing: competition, price erosion and product mix can affect revenue and margins.
- Software adoption and compatibility: customer acceptance, product compatibility and licensing affect software demand.
- Cybersecurity: security incidents can create operational, financial and reputational consequences.
- Acquisitions, VMware integration and taxes: integration, acquisition-related matters and tax issues can affect results and execution.
- Regulation and trade restrictions: changes in rules or restrictions can affect global operations and markets.
- Debt service: significant indebtedness creates ongoing financing obligations.
For each risk, look for a related change in reported revenue, margin, cash flow, customer disclosures or management commentary. Avoid treating a risk-factor list as evidence that a particular event has occurred.

Use vendor-associated surveys as context, not financial proof
Broadcom’s June 9, 2026 release about its Private Cloud Outlook 2026 describes a survey conducted with Radius Tech in February–March 2026. It included 1,800 senior IT decision-makers at enterprises with at least 1,000 employees across eight countries in North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific. Broadcom reported that 56% of surveyed enterprises were running or planning production AI inference on private cloud; 97% of surveyed IT leaders believed some public-cloud spending was wasted; 83% were considering workload repatriation; and 50% had already repatriated some workloads.
These are findings from a vendor-associated survey, as reported by Broadcom, not audited company results, a general-population measure or a direct measure of VCF sales. Use them as context about surveyed enterprise views, and test any investment thesis about VMware-related demand against Broadcom’s reported segment performance and disclosures.
Assess valuation only after the business review
The reported operating results do not answer whether AVGO is worth its current market price. For a valuation comparison, use a dated share price and clearly dated estimates or your own scenarios; neither a current share price nor an independent estimate is established here. State which earnings or cash-flow measure you use, how you treat debt and stock-based compensation, and what growth and margin assumptions underlie the comparison. A conclusion that depends on continued rapid AI growth or software execution should make those assumptions explicit rather than presenting them as settled facts.
