Research Adani Power by starting with dated exchange filings, then testing its operating performance, contracts, fuel exposure, expansion plans, cash flow, debt and valuation. The latest audited results established by the available official materials are consolidated results for the year ended 31 March 2026, approved on 29 April 2026. They report ₹54,240.52 crore in revenue from operations and ₹1,297.108 crore in net profit from continuing operations. Those figures are a starting point—not, on their own, a reason to buy or avoid the shares.
The company’s FY2024–25 annual-report investment case offers useful operating and growth figures, but it is issuer-authored and predates the FY2025–26 audited results. A current share price, peer valuations and later official guidance are not established here. Verify fresh filings and market data before forming a valuation view; this guide is a research process, not personalized investment advice.

Start by confirming the security and the reporting period
Before analysing results, confirm that the filings relate to the listed company and security you intend to research. The National Stock Exchange identifies Adani Power Limited as a main-board equity security with symbol ADANIPOWER, scrip code 533096 and ISIN INE814H01029. Match the issuer name and identifiers in official exchange records when opening a filing; similar names or copied figures can lead to mistakes.

Consolidated accounts are the group-level baseline: they include the parent and the entities consolidated with it. Standalone accounts show the listed parent’s own position and flows. Read both when relevant, but do not mix one basis with the other in a trend or ratio.

The audited consolidated results available for the year ended 31 March 2026 were approved on 29 April 2026. The exchange filing identifies Adani Power as a power-generation company and reports multiple segments. That is a reason to inspect the segment disclosures, not to assume every consolidated rupee comes from one operating line. Check the filing’s notes for how the segments are defined and how their results differ.
Read the results as a set, not as a headline profit
For FY2025–26, the audited consolidated filing reports revenue from operations of ₹54,240.52 crore and net profit from continuing operations of ₹1,297.108 crore. The filing reported amounts in lakhs; these figures are converted to crore using 100 lakhs to one crore. Keep that unit conversion in mind if you compare the figures with a source that presents the original units.

Do not treat revenue growth as proof that the business is earning better returns, or net profit as proof that it is generating equivalent cash. Read the full income statement, balance sheet and cash-flow statement. Look at revenue, operating profitability, finance costs, taxes and profit over several years, then reconcile profit with operating cash flow, capital expenditure, receivables and changes in debt. A gap between accounting earnings and cash generated is a question to investigate in the statements and notes, not something to explain away from a headline alone.

The filing also includes capital work in progress, but the figures and project-by-project reconciliation are not established here. In the full filing, identify the amounts, accounting treatment and related disclosures, then connect them to announced construction, spending, funding and commissioning. A large project pipeline can consume cash before it contributes operating earnings.
Separate generation performance from plant availability
Two operational measures in Adani Power’s FY2024–25 annual-report investment case are plant load factor (PLF) of 71% and plant availability factor (PAF) of 91%. The company reports these as FY2024–25 figures. They describe different things: PLF relates to how much electricity a plant generated relative to its capacity over the relevant period, while PAF concerns the time or capacity available to generate. A plant can be available without running at full output, so the measures are not interchangeable.
Before comparing either figure with another company or year, check the definitions, scope, period and calculation method in the relevant report. Ask whether the values are reported for a particular plant, a fleet or another defined set of assets, and whether later filings provide comparable measures. The annual-report investment-case page is company-authored; treat its statistics as reported claims and use the full report and subsequent disclosures to establish context.
Test contract coverage, tariffs and fuel exposure
Power generation economics depend not just on how much a fleet can produce, but on the terms under which electricity is sold and fuel is obtained. Adani Power’s FY2024–25 investment case says 87% of capacity was contracted under long- or medium-term power purchase agreements (PPAs). It also says 92% of that PPA-contracted capacity had assured fuel-cost recovery. Both are issuer-reported figures for the annual-report period; neither should be assumed to describe the current position without checking later disclosures.

- Contract coverage: Establish which capacity is covered by long- and medium-term PPAs, what capacity remains open to market sales, and how the company defines the denominator behind its reported percentage.
- Contract duration: Review tenor, renewal or expiry dates, counterparties and any disclosed conditions. Contracted capacity is not a guarantee that every unit will be dispatched or that every receivable will be collected on time.
- Tariff design: Examine fixed and variable components, availability requirements, dispatch conditions and the mechanism for recovering fuel costs. The company describes an availability-based, two-part tariff structure in its investment case; check the actual contracts and disclosures rather than treating that characterization as a complete description of every PPA.
- Fuel recovery: For the stated 92% of PPA-contracted capacity, verify what “assured fuel-cost recovery” means in the underlying arrangements, which costs qualify, and whether timing or other conditions could affect recovery.
- Open capacity: Assess how much generation may be exposed to market prices and what assumptions would have to hold for that exposure to help or hurt results.
The company also says that 98% of its domestic coal-based open capacity is located near mine pitheads. Attribute this figure to Adani Power’s FY2024–25 investment case, and check the full report for the scope and context. Proximity is a potential logistics consideration; it does not, by itself, establish fuel availability, delivered cost, plant utilization or profitability.
Adani Power characterizes its earnings stability as supported by a two-part availability-based tariff, remunerative PPAs and balanced open capacity. That is the issuer’s investment-case language, not an independent conclusion. Test it against actual contract terms, generation, fuel costs, collections and results over time.
Check capacity growth against funding and returns
Adani Power’s FY2024–25 annual-report investment case reports capacity of 17,550 MW as of 31 March 2025 and a target of 30,670 MW by 2030. The first is a company-reported capacity figure at a stated date; the second is a company target, not commissioned capacity or a guarantee of completion. The target therefore belongs in a list of execution questions, not in a count of operating assets.

To assess an expansion plan, trace the chain from target to shareholder economics. Check which projects are under construction, their expected commissioning schedule and disclosed spending; compare that progress with capital work in progress, capital expenditure, cash generation, debt and finance costs. Then ask whether new capacity is expected to earn returns that justify the capital tied up in it. The FY2025–26 filing contains capital-work-in-progress information, but the information available here does not reconcile each project or establish later commissioning progress.

The FY2024–25 investment case also reports net debt to continuing EBITDA of 1.44x and return on capital employed (ROCE) of 20.52%. These are issuer-reported FY2024–25 measures, not FY2025–26 figures. Check how the company defines the measures and which debt, EBITDA and capital figures it uses before comparing them with another period or an outside calculation. A ratio can shift with definitions as well as with underlying business performance.

Financial statements are only as useful as the disclosures that explain them. In the full annual report and subsequent exchange announcements, review the management discussion, risks and opportunities, auditor’s report, corporate governance report, related-party disclosures and notes to the financial statements. Look for material developments after the annual-report period and check whether the company’s explanations are consistent with reported results.
The NSE FY2025–26 results filing includes a declaration of an unmodified audit opinion for the results filing. That is relevant information about the filed results, but it is not a substitute for reading the full auditor’s report, its scope and the financial-statement notes. Nor does an unmodified opinion answer whether a stock is fairly valued, whether expansion will meet a target, or whether a business risk is immaterial to an investor.

Compare peers on a like-for-like basis
Peer comparisons are useful only when the businesses and periods are comparable. A generator with a different fuel mix, contract structure, leverage, growth stage or accounting period may not be a meaningful benchmark for Adani Power. Build the comparison from the same reporting periods and accounting basis, and use current official filings for every company rather than comparing one issuer’s current numbers with another’s older figures.
- Contracted versus merchant capacity, including tariff structure and contract tenor.
- Fuel sourcing, fuel-cost pass-through and logistics.
- Plant load factor and plant availability factor, using comparable definitions.
- Debt, finance costs, cash conversion and capital spending.
- Capacity under construction and execution history.
- Governance disclosures, related-party exposures and contingencies.
- Valuation calculated from the same date and accounting basis.
The company’s FY2024–25 investment case supplies data points for some of these axes, but no current peer dataset is established here. Do not use an isolated ratio to rank companies without checking business mix, period and calculation method.
Build a valuation only after updating the inputs
A valuation needs a time-stamped share price and financial inputs that match one another. No current share price, peer multiple or later official guidance is established by the materials available here, so they cannot support a current buy-or-sell conclusion. Obtain the latest market data and exchange filings before calculating a valuation, and record the date of every input.
Use more than one lens, while recognising the limits of each for a capital-intensive power generator:
- Earnings-based measures: Relate the market value to an explicitly stated earnings period, and distinguish continuing operations from other measures. A single year’s profit may not represent normalized earnings.
- Enterprise value relative to operating earnings: Keep the enterprise-value and operating-earnings definitions consistent across the company and peers. Leverage and the cost of capital matter for a business that must fund large assets.
- Cash-flow measures: Compare operating cash flow with capital expenditure and other funding needs. Free cash flow can be affected by the timing and scale of construction spending, so explain the period used.
- Debt and financing: Consider net debt, finance costs, maturities and planned capital commitments together; a valuation that ignores funding needs can overstate the equity case.
Valuation does not replace operating analysis. A low multiple is not automatically attractive if cash generation, execution or risk is weaker than assumed; a higher multiple needs a defensible explanation rooted in comparable prospects. State assumptions rather than disguising them as precise forecasts.
A practical research sequence
- Verify the listing: Match Adani Power Limited, NSE symbol ADANIPOWER, scrip code 533096 and ISIN INE814H01029 against official exchange records.
- Set the baseline: Open the latest audited consolidated results and note its approval date and year covered. Use the FY2025–26 consolidated filing approved 29 April 2026 as the dated baseline established here, then check for any more recent filings before relying on it.
- Read all three core statements: Review income, balance-sheet and cash-flow data, then examine segment disclosures and notes. Use standalone accounts as a separate lens on the listed parent, not as a substitute for consolidated group results.
- Trace operational economics: Verify definitions and periods for PLF and PAF; examine PPAs, tariff mechanics, fuel recovery, open capacity and logistics.
- Test the growth plan: Compare the 2030 capacity target with commissioned additions, project disclosures, capital work in progress, spending, cash generation and financing.
- Review governance and updates: Read the auditor’s report, management discussion, risk disclosures, governance and related-party information, and subsequent exchange announcements.
- Refresh valuation inputs: Record a current share price and comparable peer data, apply consistent financial periods and definitions, then document assumptions and unresolved risks before deciding whether the shares fit your own objectives and risk tolerance.
This sequence turns an issuer’s growth and investment case into questions that can be checked against official records. If a key input is stale, not comparable or not disclosed in the material you have reviewed, leave that part of the investment case unresolved rather than filling the gap with an assumption.
