You can apply for a .si domain from outside Slovenia through a registrar that accepts customers in your country. Register.si’s terms define a domain holder as a natural or legal person and do not state a Slovenian-residency requirement, but each registrar may set its own customer, payment and verification rules. How to register a .si domain from abroad
- Choose a registrar. Ordinary holder applications go through a registrar, which acts as an intermediary between the customer and the registry. Use Register.si’s official site to find registrar information, then confirm directly with your chosen provider that it currently accepts customers from your country and supports your payment method. The registry’s rules do not guarantee acceptance by every registrar.
- Check the name. Search the registrar’s availability tool and check that the name is not reserved. Availability can change, so verify it when you place the order. The name must also meet the registry’s character and length rules described below.
- Submit the application and contact details. Provide the holder and contact information requested by the registrar. Under the registry terms, complete applications are processed automatically on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to registration conditions and payment through the registrar. Submission does not guarantee a name that has already been assigned or is otherwise unavailable.
- Select the registration term and complete payment. Registration and renewal terms are from one to five years. Check the registrar’s total first-term and renewal charges before ordering; prices and payment options are provider-specific.
- Keep the account details current and renew on time. Keep the holder and contact data accurate, monitor expiry notices, and renew through the registrar before the domain expires.
Who is eligible to register?
Register.si’s general terms define a domain holder as a natural or legal person. They say ordinary holder applications are made through a registrar, with specified exceptions, and do not set a requirement to live or be incorporated in Slovenia. That is a statement about the published registry terms, not a promise that every registrar will accept every overseas applicant. Read the general terms and check the registrar’s own eligibility and account requirements before paying.
What name can you choose?
Under Register.si’s general terms, a .si name must be 2–63 characters long, may not begin or end with a hyphen, and generally may not contain consecutive hyphens in the third and fourth positions. The terms provide an exception for an allowed IDN ACE string. The name must use characters permitted by the registry. The registry’s terms set out the naming rules; use the registrar’s search at order time to check availability and reserved status.
The terms identify 113.si, 112.si, si.si and rs.si as reserved for specified Slovenian public bodies. Do not assume a name is available solely because it appears unregistered in a search result; the registrar’s order check is the practical point to confirm whether you can apply for it.

What contact information and checks are required?
Registration data must be accurate and up to date. At registration and renewal, the registrar verifies at least one contact detail—email or telephone—for the holder or administering contact. If a risk-based review indicates a registration may be malicious, the registrar may also verify the holder’s identity and postal address. Register.si’s data policy
Public display depends on the holder type. Register.si says its public registration database is connected to RDAP. For legal entities, public data includes holder, technical contact and registrar information. For natural persons, only the contact email is published by default; additional disclosure is optional under the registry’s stated policy. Review the policy and the registrar’s form so you understand which details you are submitting and which may be publicly visible.

How long does registration last, and what happens at expiry?
The registry allows a renewable registration term of one to five years. If you do not renew, the domain enters quarantine after expiry; the general terms set a maximum quarantine period of 30 days, and Register.si’s public guidance describes a 30-day quarantine. Do not treat quarantine as an extension of your normal registration or wait until the final day to contact your registrar. General terms · Registry renewal guidance
Can you cancel and get a return?
Register.si says a holder may cancel within 16 days of registration, but a return is unavailable once the service has been activated. For a domain, the registry considers activation to occur when nameserver records have been submitted to its activation systems. Its guidance says an eligible domain must show WHOIS status “inactive” and RGP status “Add Period.” These conditions do not establish what a particular registrar will refund or how it handles a request, so check that provider’s contract and instructions before relying on the registry guidance. What to compare before choosing a registrar
- Whether it currently offers .si registration and accepts customers in your country.
- The total price for the first term and the renewal price.
- Supported payment methods and any account or contact-verification requirements.
- Whether DNS or hosting is included or sold separately, if you need those services.
- Its cancellation, return and renewal procedures.
These are registrar-specific terms; compare them directly before placing an order. Registry rules establish the .si registration framework, but do not set each provider’s commercial terms.
