What Amazon uses as your sign-in “username”
At Amazon’s sign-in page, enter the email address or mobile phone number associated with your account. Amazon’s reviewed help pages do not describe a public tool that searches for or reveals an account username. In practice, recovering access means identifying the email address or phone number tied to the account, then using Amazon’s sign-in recovery flow.
If you are unsure which address or number you used, try only identifiers that may belong to you. If none works, use the sign-in page’s Other issues with Sign-In route or the recovery options shown on screen. Available prompts can vary with your account and location.
Reset a forgotten Amazon password
- Open Amazon’s official sign-in page.
- Enter the account’s email address or mobile phone number and continue.
- Select Forgot your password? when it appears.
- Enter the email address associated with the account and follow the reset instructions Amazon presents. Amazon Pay’s password guidance directs users to reset through Amazon.com and follow those steps.
The exact verification and reset steps are determined by the current Amazon prompts. If you cannot access the email or phone requested, use the official recovery or support route offered on screen; the available sources do not establish one universal set of identity documents or a guaranteed recovery timeline.

If Amazon asks for a two-step verification code
A one-time passcode (OTP) for two-step verification is not your account password. You may have to complete this separate check after entering the password. Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing help page describes text messages, voice calls, and authenticator apps as possible code methods; the choices available to you depend on the verification methods enrolled on your account.

If you cannot use the registered verification phone
If the phone number is lost, inaccessible, or unfamiliar, follow the account-recovery option presented by Amazon rather than trying to bypass the OTP. Amazon’s KDP instructions direct users who cannot access or do not recognize the registered number to account recovery. They do not promise a particular outcome or response time for every account.
If you still have access to another enrolled method, such as an authenticator app, choose it if Amazon offers it. Otherwise, continue through Amazon’s official on-screen recovery or support route.

After you regain access
- Review your sign-in details and verification settings under Login & security.
- Keep a working backup two-step verification method where Amazon offers one; Amazon recommends maintaining a backup option.
- Use a strong, unique password. Amazon Pay advises against reusing passwords or choosing information closely tied to you, and recommends two-step verification. These measures reduce risk but cannot guarantee an account will never be compromised.
Do not give your password or OTP to an unofficial person or website. Use Amazon’s own sign-in and recovery pages, especially if you suspect someone else has accessed the account.
