Start by confirming the cancellation with the airline and the company that issued your ticket; do not head to the airport until your replacement booking is confirmed. Ask to be rerouted to your ticketed final destination, including on another carrier if available. Your options and any care during a delay depend on your ticket, route, airline, and applicable rules—not every carrier offers the same remedy.
1. Confirm what has actually been canceled
Check the airline’s direct message, its manage-booking page, and its flight-status information. If you booked through a travel agent or another airline, check messages from that ticket issuer too. Save the cancellation notice and booking reference.
Dubai Airports’ flight lookup can help you check airport flight information, but it does not confirm the status of your individual ticket. Ask the airline or ticket issuer to verify your booking.
2. Contact the company that issued your ticket
If you booked directly with the operating airline, use its manage-booking tool or disruption phone or chat channel. If an agent or partner airline issued the ticket, contact that issuer about rebooking and refunds. flydubai, for example, directs customers with tickets issued by another company to that issuer; this is a carrier-specific instruction, not a universal policy (flydubai FAQ; flydubai disruption policy).

The UAE General Civil Aviation Authority’s Passenger Welfare Program, Issue 02, says that passengers affected by an operator’s cancellation are to receive information and appropriate care, and addresses onward carriage on another available flight and an option for return or rerouting within a reasonable period. Rerouting on another airline is subject to availability; another mutually agreed means and class of carriage may also be an option. How the program applies depends on the route, operator, circumstances, and its scope.
Carrier terms can differ. Gulf Air’s conditions describe rerouting within a reasonable period on its own or another carrier’s service, or another mutually agreed means; flydubai describes rebooking to the next available flight in qualifying cases. flydubai also says its published options do not affect statutory or regulatory rights that may apply to an itinerary. These are examples of those carriers’ terms, not promises about what another airline will offer (Gulf Air conditions of carriage; flydubai conditions of carriage).

4. Compare the options before choosing
If the airline or ticket issuer offers more than one workable route, compare the details that matter to your trip:
- Arrival time: Consider the expected arrival at your ticketed final destination and the risk of a tight or missed connection.
- Route and airports: Check whether the itinerary avoids the suspended service and whether you can legally enter or transit through every country on the route.
- Ticket continuity: Confirm all legs are booked and understand whether baggage is checked through. A separately ticketed self-transfer can leave you responsible for making the connection.
- Cost and remedy: Ask about fees, fare differences, refund form, deadlines, and the treatment of unused onward or return segments.
- Support needs: Ask how the airline will assist with meals, lodging, transport, accessibility, children, or other specific needs.
Compare only the options actually offered for your booking; there is no established universal price, transfer time, or outcome for Dubai suspensions.

5. Check rebooking and refund terms before deciding
Ask the airline or ticket issuer to explain the choices, any deadline, whether a refund goes to the original payment method or is offered as a voucher, and what happens to unused segments. A temporary waiver may cover only specified ticket issue dates, travel dates, routes, and rebooking deadlines. For example, Cathay’s Middle East flexibility notice has its own eligibility terms, while flydubai’s disruption policy sets carrier-specific criteria and says eligible refunds may be vouchers (Cathay Pacific travel notice; flydubai disruption policy).
Do not assume that every cancellation entitles you to a cash refund or to any flight you choose. If your trip starts outside the UAE, check the rules of that jurisdiction as well as the operating carrier’s obligations.

6. Ask about care if the disruption leaves you waiting
If you are stranded or facing a long wait, ask the airline what it will provide before paying for meals, accommodation, or transport yourself. Under the UAE GCAA Passenger Welfare Program, anticipated delays of 3–8 hours include meals and refreshments and appropriate communications; delays of more than 8 hours include accommodation, meals and refreshments, communications, and transport between the airport and accommodation. These provisions apply subject to the program’s scope and circumstances (GCAA Passenger Welfare Program, Issue 02).
Dubai Airports’ published DWC 2026 conditions describe airport expectations for passenger information and support during disruption, including staffed check-in and transfer desks that support rebooking, cancellation, and refund requests. That airport document does not replace the need to establish your rights with the airline or ticket issuer (Dubai Airports DWC Airport Conditions 2026).
7. Should you go to the airport if your flight is canceled?
Not unless the airline or ticket issuer has confirmed your replacement booking or officially confirmed the rebooked flight. flydubai explicitly advises passengers not to travel to the airport without a confirmed booking or official rebooking confirmation (flydubai FAQ). Once confirmed, check the carrier’s flight status and Dubai Airports’ flight lookup again close to departure; schedules and operating conditions can change.
