To get registrations for a startup side event, make its audience and benefit specific, send every promotional link to one simple registration page, and ask relevant partners to share it. Then use a planned series of updates and compare completed signups by source so you can focus effort on the outreach that reaches likely attendees.
1. Define why someone should attend
Start with the attendee, not the promotion channel. State who the event is for, what they will gain, and why it is worth attending alongside the larger conference or startup gathering. “Networking event” describes a format; it does not explain who should come or what they will get from it.

Choose a format that serves that promise: for example, a founder mixer for peer connections or a focused panel for people working through a specific challenge. TechCrunch’s All Stage 2025 side-event page illustrates possible formats and describes hosts as developing their event idea and managing its page and registration. Treat those examples as inspiration, not as a guarantee that another conference offers the same program.
2. Build one clear registration destination
Use a dedicated event page or registration form as the destination for every email, post, partner mention, and direct invitation. Include the event name, intended audience, benefit, date, time, location, hosts or speakers, and a prominent registration action. A prospective attendee should be able to understand the offer and sign up without hunting for details.

Keep the form focused on information needed to reserve a place or run the event. Make the registration action visible, and share a direct link rather than asking people to navigate through a general website. ClearEvent’s guidance covers landing-page calls to action and direct form links; Cvent also recommends simplifying registration: ClearEvent landing-page guidance, Cvent registration-process guidance, and Cvent registration-form guidance.
3. Choose outreach routes by audience fit
Start with people and communities likely to include the intended attendees. Use the organizer’s email list and social accounts, then invite speakers, co-hosts, sponsors, relevant startup communities, and conference contacts to share the same registration destination where appropriate. Give partners ready-to-use copy and an image or other event asset so sharing is straightforward.

Do not assume a channel is valuable merely because it has a large following. For each route, consider whether its audience overlaps with your target attendees, how much effort it takes to prepare, and whether you can associate registrations with it. ClearEvent discusses email and social distribution, while HubSpot’s event guidance addresses recurring social promotion and sharing by speakers and sponsors: ClearEvent event-promotion guidance and HubSpot event-promotion guidance.

1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors4. Promote in stages, with a fresh reason to register
Plan multiple updates rather than relying on a single announcement. Lead with the event’s audience and benefit, then use later communications to add useful specifics, such as a speaker, an agenda detail, a participating partner, or a practical reason to reserve a place. Each update should make clear what the event is and link to the same registration destination. Crowdcast recommends promoting at different points and giving people different reasons to register: Crowdcast’s event-promotion guidance.

There is no established universal posting cadence or proven conversion lift for startup side events in these sources. Set a schedule that fits your event timeline and capacity, and judge it by actual signups rather than assuming more posts automatically mean more registrations.
5. Check the conference’s side-event rules
If the event is connected to a conference program, confirm the current rules directly with the organizer. Ask whether independent side events can be listed or promoted, what eligibility or venue requirements apply, and who handles registration and attendee communications. Do not assume that conference attendees will see the event or that a listing includes access to the main conference.

For example, TechCrunch’s All Stage 2025 page says potential promotion could include listings and shared attendee communications at its discretion, while assigning hosts responsibility for event development, costs, promotion, registration operations, communications, and other logistics. Those terms concern that specific 2025 program and its Boston-area venues; they should not be generalized to another conference or year. Review the current program details at TechCrunch’s side-event page.

6. Track completed registrations by source
Where your registration tool supports it, use distinct tracking links for different channels or partners. Otherwise, ask registrants how they heard about the event or record the source through another simple process. Compare completed registrations by source, not just likes, shares, or page visits. This is a practical way to decide where to spend follow-up effort; the cited guidance does not establish a universal attribution standard or a best-performing channel for startup side events.
