There is no single HackerEarth test or universal syllabus: the employer chooses the questions, settings, and skills being assessed. Start by reading the invitation and on-screen instructions, identify the formats in your assessment, and take HackerEarth’s sample practice test if it is available. Then focus your study on the role-specific skills and learn the test controls before the clock starts.
Start with the invitation and test instructions
Read the employer’s invitation and the assessment instructions before you prepare. Recruiters can customize an assessment and its restrictions, so the directions for your particular test—not a generic description of HackerEarth—are the best guide to what you need. HackerEarth’s candidate guidance recommends reading the instructions and taking the practice test before beginning.

Look for the details that affect your preparation and test-day setup:
- Which question formats and skills the employer says are included.
- The assessment duration and any deadline for completing it.
- Available programming languages, if you will write code.
- Navigation, answer submission, and how to end the assessment.
- Any webcam, full-screen, tab-switching, or copy-and-paste rules.
If a detail is not clear in the invitation or test instructions, ask the recruiter rather than assuming every HackerEarth assessment uses the same settings.

Use the sample test to learn the platform
If it is available, take HackerEarth’s sample practice test before the live assessment. HackerEarth describes it as a way to “get familiar with the HackerEarth Recruit platform.” Its practice-test guide says it can help candidates learn the interface, move between questions, recognize warnings and information messages, and understand how to end the test. It also introduces objective and programming question patterns and the programming evaluation workflow.
The practice test is optional, but HackerEarth highly recommends it. Treat it as platform familiarization, not a preview of the employer’s exact questions: HackerEarth says automatically generated practice tests do not contain the same questions as the original assessment.
Prepare for the formats in your assessment
HackerEarth supports multiple question formats. Its candidate help center lists programming, multiple-choice, SQL, project, data-science, machine-learning, DevOps, and subjective formats. An older HackerEarth overview published in 2020 also illustrates the variety of question types. These references describe platform options, not a promise that every assessment includes them. Follow the employer’s information to decide what applies to you.
Programming questions
Practice turning a prompt into a precise plan before coding. Identify the required input and output, note the constraints, and consider boundary cases as well as typical examples. HackerEarth describes programming questions as a way to assess algorithm knowledge, analytical thinking, and problem-solving; the specific skills depend on the employer’s challenge.

SQL, data, project, and other formats
Prepare only for the formats and role skills identified for your assessment. For example, revise relevant SQL concepts if SQL questions are listed, or review the tools and methods tied to a data-science or project task. Official candidate guidance does not establish one topic list that applies to every HackerEarth test.
Test your code beyond the visible samples
For programming questions, passing the examples shown in the prompt may not be enough. HackerEarth explains in its test-case guidance that submissions are checked against sample and internal test cases. Samples help you verify expected input/output behavior, but hidden cases also evaluate the solution.
After checking the examples, test your reasoning with custom inputs where the interface allows it. Include edge cases suggested by the problem’s constraints—for instance, the smallest permitted input, repeated values, or values at a stated limit. Do not infer a likely score or pass rate from the number of visible examples; HackerEarth’s candidate guidance does not provide a universal candidate success statistic.

HackerEarth’s test-environment guide describes a typical interface with question navigation, answer and code submission controls, language selection, the remaining duration, instructions, and an end-test control. The exact screen can vary by question type and assessment configuration.

HackerEarth says the end-test action closes the assessment and prevents further changes, so do not use it until you are ready to finish.
Check monitoring and device requirements for your test
Webcam use, full-screen mode, copy-and-paste restrictions, and tab-switching warnings or logouts may be enabled by the recruiter. They are possible assessment settings, not requirements for every HackerEarth test. Check the invitation and any system checks for your assessment. A webcam is required only when the specific assessment uses a monitoring setting that calls for one.
How to prioritize limited preparation time
Use the information available for your own assessment to decide what deserves attention first:
Quick Recap
- Confirm coverage. Use the invitation or recruiter’s instructions to identify the question formats and role skills.
- Rehearse the interface. Take the sample test if available, paying attention to navigation, messages, and how the test ends.
- Practice the relevant work. Spend study time on the programming, SQL, data, project, or other skills named for your assessment.
- Review the conditions. Check duration, language options, monitoring requirements, and submission controls before test day.
- For code, check edge cases. Use the visible examples to understand the expected behavior, then test beyond them.
