You can pay for Steam games without a credit card by redeeming a physical Steam gift card or Steam Wallet code, then using the balance in your Steam Wallet at checkout. You can also use another payment option if Steam displays it for your country, or receive a digital gift card from someone who can pay for it.
Use a physical Steam gift card or Wallet code
A physical Steam gift card or Steam Wallet code adds prepaid funds to a Steam account; it does not pay for a game directly at checkout. Steam says gift cards can be redeemed for purchases on Steam, and Wallet codes are converted to the currency of the account’s Wallet when redeemed, regardless of where the code was purchased. - Get a genuine physical Steam gift card or Wallet code from a seller you trust. Check the product’s terms and make sure it is suitable for your account.
- Sign in to the Steam account where you want the funds credited, then follow Steam’s official Wallet code redemption flow.
- After the balance is added, choose Steam Wallet at checkout. The balance must cover the purchase, or you will need another payment option for any remaining amount.
Wallet funds can pay for games and supported in-game purchases on Steam. They are prepaid Steam balance, not cash, a bank account, or a general-purpose payment method; Valve says they have no value outside Steam and are non-transferable. Steam Wallet Steam Subscriber Agreement
Receive a digital Steam gift card
A friend or family member can send a digital Steam gift card through Steam. Once you accept it, the value is credited to your Wallet. This can work if you do not have your own eligible payment method, but the sender must pay using a method Steam accepts. Steam’s available payment methods vary by country and account. If checkout offers a non-credit-card method you can use, you may be able to pay directly without first loading Wallet funds. Know the regional and refund limits
Wallet code currency conversion does not guarantee that every seller or listing is safe or appropriate for your account. Buy only from a source you trust, and check its terms. Do not disguise your residence to access different pricing or bypass geographic restrictions: Valve’s agreement prohibits using an IP proxy or other methods for that purpose and says account access may be terminated. Refund destination depends on the payment method and country. Steam says some methods cannot return refunds to the original method, in which case refunds can only go to the Steam Wallet.
