A usual streetwear size is only a starting point: brands can define sizes and fit differently, and tops and pants may rely on different measurements.
What to measure before choosing scrubs
Use a flexible body measuring tape so it can follow your contours. Measure over light clothing or directly on your body, keeping the tape level and comfortably snug rather than pulling it tight. Record each measurement in the units used by the brand’s chart.
- Chest or bust: Measure around the fullest part. Cherokee calls this the fullest part of the chest; FIGS directs shoppers to measure around the fullest part of the bust.
- Waist: Find your natural waist crease by bending to one side, then measure around that point. FIGS describes its waist measurement as the smallest part of the waist.
- Hips: Stand with your feet together and measure around the fullest part of your hips and rear, following Cherokee’s instructions.
- Inseam: Measure from the crotch seam down the inside leg to the point where you want the pant hem to fall. Cherokee defines inseam from the crotch seam to the hem along the inside seam.
Instructions can vary slightly by brand, so follow the measurement directions on the chart you plan to use. See Cherokee Uniforms’ size chart and FIGS’ sizing information.
How to use a scrub size chart
- Choose the right chart. Use the chart for the brand, garment category and fit you intend to buy. A top and a pair of pants may have different deciding measurements.
- Compare each body measurement with the chart. Look at the listed ranges rather than trying to translate a clothing label from another brand.
- Apply the brand’s between-size rule. If measurements indicate different sizes, follow the specific brand’s guidance for that garment instead of assuming one rule works for every maker.
- Check fit and inseam separately. A size that matches your body measurements still needs to suit the garment’s intended ease and your preferred pant length.
For FIGS, the help center says to use bust or chest when choosing a top between sizes and hips when choosing pants between sizes. Cherokee says to favor the size indicated by the hip measurement when waist and hip measurements point to different sizes. Cherokee also advises choosing smaller for a tighter fit or larger for a looser fit when a measurement falls between sizes. These are brand-specific directions, not universal sizing rules. Choose fit based on how you want the scrubs to sit
Fit labels matter because they describe intended room and shape, not just a size number. Cherokee describes its junior contoured fit as close to the body, its missy relaxed fit as roomy with ease and coverage, and its unisex fit as loose and spacious. Its suggestion to size up for more breathing room applies to junior contoured pieces, not every scrub style.
FIGS says sizes are consistent across multiple styles, while fit may vary by style. Before deciding between two plausible sizes, consider the chart measurement that matters for the garment, the fit label, the specific style and the amount of ease you prefer.

Select scrub pants by inseam, not height alone
Once you have selected a waist and hip size, compare your measured inseam with the actual length options for the style. Height by itself does not establish where a pant hem will fall, and product styles can differ. Cherokee Uniforms’ current chart, accessed in 2026, lists these approximate inseam ranges:
