In Kraken Futures, manage outstanding activity from two places: Open Orders for resting limit orders and Conditional Orders for stop-loss and take-profit instructions. Edit an unfilled order’s price or quantity, or cancel it and submit a replacement when you need a different order type or trigger. To close a position, place an order in the opposite direction—sell against a long or buy against a short—and use the position size for a full close or a smaller size for a partial reduction.
The exact screen differs between single-collateral and multi-collateral derivatives and between the web platform and Kraken Pro app, but the control logic is the same. The procedures below show how to reconcile orders, adjust exposure, and configure exits without assuming that a trigger guarantees a fill.

Where Kraken Futures shows your outstanding activity
Start by identifying whether you are looking at an order or a position. An order is an instruction waiting to execute, while a position is the resulting long or short exposure after fills.
Open Orders
Resting limit orders are listed under Open Orders. A partially filled limit order remains open for its unfilled quantity, so the row may represent both executed exposure and a remainder still working on the book. The single-collateral interface also places open trigger orders in the order-management area, while the multi-collateral documentation describes separate Open Orders and Conditional Orders sections on the web platform.

Conditional Orders
Stop-loss and take-profit instructions normally appear under Conditional Orders. These orders wait for a selected trigger condition rather than immediately resting as an ordinary limit order. Check this section whenever you are trying to find a stop or take-profit that is not visible in Open Orders.
Positions
The Positions view shows current long and short exposure and provides a way to start a market or limit close. Position information can include the side, quantity and related order controls; labels may differ between product types and interface versions. On the Kraken Pro app, use the derivatives trading screen and its order-management and position controls rather than assuming the web layout is identical.
For a reliable reconciliation, inspect both Open Orders and Conditional Orders, then compare their quantities with the position shown in Positions. An order can be unfilled, partially filled, or triggered without producing a complete exit.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesEdit an unfilled or partially filled order
Kraken’s single-collateral instructions allow unfilled and partially filled orders to be edited or canceled. The documented editable fields are the price for a limit order (or the trigger price for a trigger order) and the quantity.
Web workflow
- Open the derivatives trading screen and select Open Orders for a resting limit order or Conditional Orders for a stop or take-profit instruction.
- Locate the order row and choose its edit control.
- Change the price, trigger price, quantity, or the equivalent field exposed for that order.
- Review the resulting order details, including side, contract, quantity and any execution flags, then submit the edit.
- Return to the order list and confirm that the updated values are displayed. Treat the list after the refresh as the authoritative state.
What an edit cannot change
Changing the price or quantity does not turn a limit order into a market order, change a trigger signal, or change the fundamental order type. If you need a different order type or a different trigger reference, cancel the existing order and submit a new one with the desired settings.
Why editing price can change the result
An edited limit price is evaluated against current market conditions. It may execute immediately if the new price crosses available liquidity. If post-only is enabled and the edited price would execute immediately, Kraken can cancel or reject it instead of allowing an immediate trade. Editing is therefore an execution decision, not merely a cosmetic change to a number.
Cancel one order or cancel everything
Cancel a single row
- Open Open Orders or Conditional Orders, depending on the instruction you want to remove.
- Use the cancel control on that order’s row.
- Confirm the cancellation if Kraken displays a confirmation prompt.
- Refresh or revisit the list and verify that the order no longer appears as active.
Canceling an order removes the remaining, unfilled quantity. It does not reverse fills that already became part of a position.

Cancel all active orders
Kraken’s guide also documents a Cancel All control. Use it only when you intend to remove every eligible active order in that trading context. Because bulk cancellation is immediate, review the remaining order list afterward and check Conditional Orders separately if the interface presents them in another section.
Close or reduce a futures position
Closing a futures position requires the opposite side of the original exposure:
| Current position | Order used to reduce it | Quantity for the result |
|---|---|---|
| Long | Sell | Equal to the position for a full close; smaller for a partial reduction |
| Short | Buy | Equal to the position for a full close; smaller for a partial reduction |
Close from the Positions view
- Open Positions and select the position you want to manage.
- Choose the control to close or reduce the position.
- Select a market close when immediate execution is the priority, or a limit close when you want to specify a price.
- Confirm that the direction is opposite to the position: sell for a long or buy for a short.
- Enter the full position quantity for a complete close, or a smaller quantity for a staged reduction.
- Submit the order and monitor both the order status and the remaining position.
A limit close can remain open if the market does not reach its price. A market close can fill at multiple prices or partially, depending on available liquidity and account conditions. After submitting either type, verify the actual position quantity instead of assuming that the requested quantity has executed.
Close from the order ticket
You can also open a regular order ticket and submit the opposite-side order for the contract and quantity shown in Positions. Select reduce-only when the order’s sole purpose is to reduce existing exposure and you do not want an accidental reversal. The position view is useful because it gives you the current side and size before you enter the closing quantity.
Use reduce-only to prevent an accidental reversal
Kraken describes reduce-only as an instruction that can execute only when it reduces an existing position. If you submit a reduce-only quantity larger than the position, Kraken automatically reduces the order to match the position size. That behavior helps prevent an oversized closing order from crossing through zero and creating exposure in the opposite direction.
Reduce-only is a position constraint, not a fill guarantee. The order can still remain unfilled, fill only partially, or be rejected when account or market conditions prevent execution. Continue monitoring the position after the order is submitted.
Choose the execution controls deliberately
Several flags determine whether an order rests, executes immediately, or is limited to reducing exposure. They solve different problems and should not be treated as interchangeable.

| Control | What it does | Operational consequence |
|---|---|---|
| Limit | Sets a maximum buy price or minimum sell price. | May rest on the book and may not fill. |
| Market | Requests execution against available liquidity. | Prioritizes immediacy; fill prices can vary and the result can be partial. |
| Reduce-only | Allows execution only when it decreases an existing position. | An oversized quantity is reduced to the position size; it does not ensure execution. |
| Post-only | Requires a limit order to add liquidity rather than execute immediately. | The order is canceled or rejected if its price would trade at once. |
| Immediate-or-cancel (IOC) | Executes immediately against available quantity and cancels any remainder. | Nothing remains resting after the immediate attempt. |
Limit versus market for a close
A limit close provides price control but can leave the position open while waiting. A market close emphasizes execution now but does not promise a single price. Decide which risk matters more—waiting or price uncertainty—before submitting.

Post-only versus IOC
Post-only and IOC represent opposite timing goals. Post-only is for an order that must not take liquidity immediately; IOC is for an order that should take whatever quantity is available now and discard the rest. Editing a post-only price can make the order fail if the new price would execute immediately.
Set a trigger price and understand trigger references
Depending on the order type, Kraken’s derivatives order controls can offer mark price, last price, or index price as the trigger reference. The available choices are not necessarily identical for every order type.
Mark price
Kraken uses mark price to value positions and determine liquidations, according to its derivatives order documentation. Selecting mark price for a conditional order ties activation to that reference rather than to the most recent traded price.
Last price
Last price is the latest traded price for the contract. A brief trade can move last price without moving the other references by the same amount.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Index price
Index price is a reference derived from the underlying market. It can behave differently from the contract’s own last trade, so a trigger based on index price may activate at a different moment from one based on last price.
Before submitting a conditional order, read the trigger field and confirm both the selected reference and the direction in which it must move. If you need to change the trigger signal later, cancel the order and create a replacement; the documented edit function does not provide a trigger-signal conversion.

Configure take-profit and stop-loss bracket exits
Kraken’s bracket feature combines a primary market or limit order with take-profit and stop-loss exits. It can be used while placing a new order and can also be applied to an existing position.
Basic bracket setup
- Open the derivatives order ticket and choose the primary market or limit order.
- Enable the take-profit, stop-loss, or both bracket components offered by the ticket.
- Enter the required trigger and execution details for each exit, including the chosen trigger reference when the ticket provides that option.
- Review whether the bracket applies to the entire position or only a specified quantity.
- Submit the primary order and confirm that the resulting exits appear in the appropriate order-management section.
The bracket feature can also be started from an existing position. Select the position, choose the TP/SL action, and specify the exit quantities and prices in the resulting controls. The exact placement of the action can differ between web and app views.
Entire-position and partial exits
Advanced bracket settings allow an exit for the entire position or for only part of it. An entire-position exit is sized to remove all of the selected exposure when it executes. A partial exit leaves the remainder in place, allowing separate management of the balance.
One-cancels-the-other behavior
When both take-profit and stop-loss are set in the same bracket, Kraken states: “If you place both a Take profit and a Stop loss: when one is triggered it’ll automatically cancel the other order.” This OCO behavior prevents the paired exit from remaining active after one side has triggered. Still verify the surviving position and any replacement orders after a trigger, because the triggering order itself can be partially filled or rejected.
Restriction involving reduce-only primary orders
Kraken’s bracket instructions state that a primary order with reduce-only enabled cannot have TP/SL added through this feature. If you need a reduce-only close and a separate conditional protection order, create and manage those instructions separately where the interface permits it, then confirm their quantities do not conflict.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why a triggered order may not close the position
A trigger is an instruction to activate an order, not a promise of an execution price or a complete fill. Kraken’s order documentation identifies several possible outcomes:
- A market or trigger order can be partially filled.
- It can remain unfilled when available liquidity is insufficient.
- It can be rejected when the account does not have sufficient margin at the time of execution.
- A limit order can activate but remain resting because its limit price is not immediately tradable.
For that reason, check the order status and the position quantity after any stop, take-profit, or market-close event. If exposure remains, decide whether to submit another reduction order, change a resting limit, or cancel and replace a conditional instruction according to the current market and account state.

A practical reconciliation routine
Use this sequence whenever you need to know exactly what Kraken Futures is still managing:
- Open the relevant derivatives account and confirm whether you are working in single-collateral or multi-collateral products.
- Review Positions and note each contract, side and current quantity.
- Review Open Orders for resting limits and partially filled remnants.
- Review Conditional Orders for stops and take-profits.
- For each order, compare its side and quantity with the position it is intended to reduce or protect.
- Edit only price, trigger price or quantity when those are the intended changes.
- Cancel and resubmit when the order type or trigger reference must change.
- Use reduce-only for a closing instruction when preventing an accidental reversal is important.
- After every cancellation, edit, trigger or fill, refresh the lists and confirm the resulting position rather than relying on the original request.
Web and Kraken Pro app differences
The multi-collateral documentation covers order management on the web interface and in the Kraken Pro app. Both provide access to open-order and position controls, but the navigation hierarchy and the location of edit, cancel and close actions can differ. Look for the same functional labels—Open Orders, Conditional Orders, Positions, edit, cancel and close—rather than expecting identical button placement.
Single-collateral instructions similarly describe separate order sections and position actions. If a control is not visible, first check whether the order is conditional, whether the app has placed it behind an order-details screen, and whether you are viewing the correct derivatives account.

Common mistakes and how to correct them
Looking only in Open Orders
Symptom: A stop-loss or take-profit appears to be missing. Correction: Check Conditional Orders; Kraken documents these as separate areas in the derivatives interface.
Trying to edit an order type
Symptom: You cannot turn a limit order into a market order or switch its trigger reference in the edit dialog. Correction: Cancel the original and submit a new order with the required type and signal.
Closing on the same side as the position
Symptom: The submitted order increases exposure instead of reducing it. Correction: Use sell to reduce a long and buy to reduce a short; enable reduce-only when appropriate.
Assuming the trigger price is the fill price
Symptom: The conditional order triggered, but the fill was different, partial or absent. Correction: Treat the trigger as activation, then inspect execution status, available liquidity and margin.
Leaving a paired exit active after a manual change
Symptom: An old stop or take-profit remains after you manually adjust the position. Correction: Reconcile Conditional Orders after every manual close or reduction and cancel instructions that no longer match the remaining quantity.
Decision guide: which control fits the task?
| Task | Most relevant choice | What to verify afterward |
|---|---|---|
| Wait for a specified execution price | Limit order | Whether it is resting, partially filled or canceled |
| Attempt an immediate close | Market order, optionally reduce-only | Actual fill quantity and remaining position |
| Ensure an order never takes liquidity immediately | Post-only limit | That it was accepted and remains on the book |
| Take available liquidity now without leaving a remainder | IOC | Any quantity that was canceled rather than filled |
| Protect all exposure with paired exits | Bracket TP/SL for the entire position | That both exits are present and OCO behavior is active |
| Protect only part of exposure | Partial bracket exit | Remaining position size and the quantity covered by each exit |
These are operational distinctions, not trading recommendations. The appropriate setting depends on whether your priority is price control, immediacy, exposure reduction, resting liquidity or conditional protection.
