You can earn with your voice by narrating audiobooks for individual projects or by creating voice-led videos and building a YouTube channel. Neither route guarantees work or income: audiobook narration also requires recording and editing, while YouTube monetization depends on current program requirements and continued channel activity. The evidence available here supports these two paths—not a verified list of nine current sites.
Choose between project work and building an audience

ACX connects narrators with individual audiobook projects; YouTube is a content-and-audience route. Consider whether you would rather audition for client work or create content over time.
How audiobook narration on ACX works
- Create a profile. ACX asks narrators to provide vocal samples and details about their experience. See ACX’s narrator and studio workflow.
- Find projects and audition. Search available projects and submit auditions for titles that suit your voice and skills.
- Discuss the terms and workflow. Payment arrangements are negotiated with the rights holder. ACX recommends agreeing on checkpoints so both sides can review progress.
- Record and produce the audiobook. The producer handles the recording and production work; this is more than reading a script aloud.
- Submit the finished audio. ACX reviews submissions against its requirements. Check the current ACX audio submission requirements before recording, since technical rules may change.
Check eligibility before investing time
ACX’s Producer Checklist, published September 17, 2025, says its producer program is open to residents of the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and Ireland who have a mailing address, valid local taxpayer identification number, and banking details in one of those countries. Confirm the current checklist before relying on those location requirements.
Plan for a suitable recording setup
ACX says producers need a dedicated place to record, master, and edit. Its audio guidance calls for consistent sound and avoidance of distracting artifacts such as plosives, microphone pops, clicks, mouth noise, and outtakes. A USB microphone is one possible equipment category for a voice-over setup, but ACX does not require a particular model or endorse buying one as a way to get work. Its audio upload guidance covers file submission.

ACX’s audio requirements state: “Your submitted audiobook must be narrated by a human unless otherwise authorized: Unauthorized use of text-to-speech, AI, or automated recordings in ACX titles is prohibited.” This is ACX’s rule for its titles, not a universal rule for every audiobook retailer. Check the current terms and obtain authorization where required before using automated narration.
What to know about payment and income
ACX describes upfront payment and royalty-sharing arrangements, with terms negotiated between the producer and rights holder. No reliable typical-income figure, average pay, booking rate, or success probability is established here, so do not treat a royalty arrangement as a prediction of earnings. Review the specific project’s payment terms, rights, and obligations before accepting it.

How voice-led YouTube monetization works
YouTube’s Partner Program overview describes YPP as providing access to monetization features for eligible creators. Eligibility thresholds vary by feature and can change, so check the current official page for the feature you intend to use rather than relying on an old threshold. YouTube also says it may turn off monetization for channels with no video uploads or Posts activity for six months or more.
This route is not simply a way to sell narration to a client: you create and publish content, then pursue monetization under YouTube’s program terms. Consider whether you are prepared to produce content consistently while working to build an audience.
