SpaceX is no longer available only through private-market funds: it completed an IPO in June 2026 and issued publicly traded Class A shares. A private-market fund remains a different, indirect route, and its exposure may have changed since the IPO. Before investing, check the fund’s latest holdings and prospectus rather than relying on a pre-IPO allocation figure.
What changed: SpaceX completed an IPO
SpaceX’s Form 10-Q for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, reports that the company issued 638.9 million Class A shares at an offering price of $135 per share. It reported $85.675 billion in net proceeds after $575 million in underwriting commissions and offering costs. In its June 4, 2026 announcement, SpaceX said it had applied to list Class A common stock on the Nasdaq Global Select Market and Nasdaq Texas under the ticker SPCX. The completed IPO is documented in the later Form 10-Q. SpaceX IPO announcement.

How a private-market fund gives exposure—and what it does not
A private-market fund pools investor money into a portfolio. Buying its shares means owning an interest in that fund, not directly owning SpaceX shares. Depending on the fund’s structure and holdings, its exposure may be indirect and may involve special purpose vehicles or other arrangements. The Private Shares Fund’s disclosures say that such structures can carry additional expenses and, in some cases, leave the fund without a direct claim against an underlying portfolio company. The Private Shares Fund lists PRIVX, PIIVX, and PRLVX share classes and says accreditation is not required. Its issuer page states minimum investments of $2,500 for Class A and Class L shares and $1 million for Institutional shares, with the Institutional minimum waived for fee-based advisory accounts. Why the fund’s old SpaceX percentage is not a current allocation
The Private Shares Fund reported that SpaceX and xAI together represented 19.36% of its portfolio as of March 31, 2026. That figure predates SpaceX’s IPO, combines two companies, and does not establish the fund’s current SpaceX weight or the security through which it has exposure. The issuer’s page also presents an August 31 top-holdings date, but the holdings are not available there as text. Do not treat the March figure as current or infer that the fund retained, converted, or sold its exposure after the IPO. Review the latest holdings file and prospectus. Liquidity: quarterly repurchases are not exchange trading
The Private Shares Fund describes quarterly repurchase offers for up to 5% of net asset value (NAV). This is a limited repurchase program, not an assurance that every investor can sell whenever they choose or redeem the amount they want. The fund says it does not intend to list its shares on an exchange and does not expect a secondary market to develop. Its disclosures also describe fair-value methods, portfolio concentration, lockups, and the possibility of unfavorable sale prices after a portfolio company’s IPO. Leveraged and inverse ETFs are a separate, high-risk choice
Direxion lists LOFF and LOFD as ETFs targeting, respectively, +200% and -200% of SpaceX’s daily price performance before fees and expenses. These are daily targets, not promises to deliver twice the stock’s return over a longer holding period. Daily rebalancing, compounding, concentration, and volatility can make longer-period results differ materially from a simple positive or negative two-times calculation. A practical due-diligence sequence
- Decide what exposure you want. Determine whether you want SpaceX Class A shares, a diversified fund that reports SpaceX-related exposure, or a daily leveraged or inverse product. These are different securities with different risks.
- Confirm access in your market. For public shares and ETFs, check with your brokerage for current availability and any jurisdictional or account restrictions. For a private-market fund, verify eligibility and minimums for the specific share class.
- For a private fund, read current documents. Check the prospectus, latest holdings file, fees, valuation approach, and repurchase terms. Identify the legal instrument behind any SpaceX exposure and the date and percentage reported.
- Assess how you could exit. Publicly traded securities can be sold through a market order or other available brokerage order, subject to trading conditions. An interval fund’s repurchase offer is limited and periodic; do not assume you can sell on demand.
- Match risk to your purpose and time horizon. Consider the risk of a single-company position, the fund’s concentration and valuation uncertainty, or the daily-reset exposure of a leveraged ETF. Do not read a daily target as a long-term return forecast.
What to conclude from an older fund disclosure
A dated pre-IPO holding can show that a fund reported SpaceX-related exposure at that time, but it cannot establish the fund’s present allocation or the investor’s current economic exposure. The meaningful comparison is not simply “SpaceX or no SpaceX”: it is the security owned, the route through which exposure is obtained, the ability to sell, and the current documents that support the fund’s claims.
